The weekly routine

Each week will have certain components in common. Before you start work, look at these sections and see how they function.

Reading assignments

When you click on the Overview for each week, you will see your reading assignments. These are the works you need to read in order to do your written work. The page numbers are included. You may want to do some research, but that is not required.

“Lecture sections”

Next come the weekly lectures. This is material that will help with your written assignments and has information on the Terms, Authors and History that apply to that week’s readings. This is also material that will appear on your weekly quizzes and should be studied before you start reading and doing written assignments.

Weekly Discussion

This section is a threaded discussion where you and your classmates can discuss the topics I have assigned. Each entry should be at least 150 words long and you need to respond over three separate days.

Weekly Writing Assignments

Each week you will have written assignments to be posted by uploading a single document using the View/Complete feature and browsing to find the document as saved on your computer. If you have problems, please see the Student Resources section for instructions or feel free to ask me. Each answer should be 250 words long and the entire assignment in one document is due on Saturday.

Formal essays

There are only two formal essays due for this class. The midterm should be submitted by midnight on Wednesday of the second week and the final should be submitted by Wednesday of the fourth week. I will announce the topics in the previous week so you can get a head start. These essays should be 750 words long.

Ask questions and cafe

These two sections are for you. Direct any questions of a general nature to me in the ask questions section. If you have a more personal matter to discuss, you can e-mail me. The café is for you to discuss anything you would like with your classmates. Please feel free to post pictures!

Quizzes

You will be taking short quizzes at the end of weeks one, two and three. There will be no quiz week four as you have your final essay and the post-test to do then. The quizzes will consist of only 10 multiple-choice questions which will be based largely on the lecture sections for the week and you will have 15 minutes to complete them.

Live chat

We will have a live chat each week at 7:00 p.m. eastern time in KeiserLive. I will have a power-point presentation or a lecture on the week’s readings for you and it will be your opportunity to ask questions and chat live with your instructor and classmates. You can review the archive by clicking on the correct date if you are unable to attend.

Talk with your classmates

Take advantage of the student café section where you can chat about anything you wish. Questions about the class should be directed to me, though. For instance, if you don’t understand an assignment, ask the professor first.

But contact me as soon as possible if you do encounter a problem. I will be happy to work with you and let you make up work.
