INTRODUCTION

PowerPanels from AVG UTICOR are state-of-the art, touchscreen, flat panel, graphical operator interfacesthat allow you to talk to most major PLCs and net-works on the market today. The PowerPanels, withbright displays and wide viewing angles, allow you toreplace your electromechanical panels inexpensively.

PowerPanel uses the latest in color display technology. The high brightness of the display makes it easy to readin the varying light conditions encountered in a plantenvironment. The display's wider viewing angle allows operators to view the display fromdifferent directions. With text size up to 1" high, the display can be viewed from a distance.

For applications in very-high ambient lighting conditions, such as outdoors in direct sun-light, AVG UTICOR's 10" High-Bright model provides 1,500 NITS of brightness-brightenough for use almost anywhere.

Upon request, AVG UTICOR will supply free screen design software called uWIN. Thiseasy-to-use software package allows you to quickly design your panel screens by simply pick-ing and placing the most commonly used OBJECT (devices) from a floating TOOLBOX,and then filling in the associated properties for the object you selected. With PowerPanel, you are not limited to just the objects in the toolbox. For application-specific and/or not-so-common objects, uWIN provides a full set of drawing tools, which let you to create almostany graphic picture imaginable on the screen.

User-friendly, uWIN helps you design the screens for the operator interface in the shortestpossible time. In fact, you can design a typical screen in less than 10 minutes even if youhave never used the software before!

PowerPanel can be made far less cluttered by displaying only the necessary controls, andonly when needed. This virtually eliminates operator error caused by actuating the wrongcontrol. You can't, if it isn't there in the first place.

SUPPORTS MOST MAJOR PLCs and NETWORKSThe PowerPanel interfaces to most majorPLCs and networks having either RS-232C,RS-422A, or RS-485A ports for connectingto operator interfaces. PowerPanels supportall three standards. PLC-Specific softwaredrivers come with the PowerPanel and takecare of PLC-specific protocol concerns. Most PowerPanel models also offer optionalhardware interface to several PLC Networks, such as A-B Remote I/O, Data Highway+,Profibus, etc.

uWIN software automatically downloads theright driver while transferring the designedscreens from your PC to the PowerPanel.

The PowerPanel allows you to monitor upto 1,024 (16-bit) registers within the PLC.

A listing of all the PLCs to which thePowerPanel can interface is shown to

the right. If you do not find your driver on the list, please call us at 1-800-TEC-ENGR or check our web site(http://www.avg.net)... we may have alreadyadded the driver you need to our list—or wecan develop one for you!

A touchscreen graphical operator interface (OI) is an excellent choice over the more cumber-some, labor-intensive electromechanical hardwired operator panels. It's easier to use, moreflexible, and has a lower installed cost.

The bottom line... you save time and money with an PowerPanel from AVG UTICOR!

HARDWIRED CONTROL PANELS ARE INFLEXIBLEAND COSTLY

Construction of an electromechanical hardwired control panel requirestime-consuming metal work; including cutouts for every switch, push-button, or pilot light, and hardwiring each component. However, theinitial cost is just the beginning. Any required change in the design, theaddition of a pushbutton for example, requires further metalwork andrewiring. Worse yet, a change in the design could render the panel obso-lete, forcing you to purchase/make a whole new one.

POWERPANELS ARE MUCH MORE FLEXIBLE ANDUSER-FRIENDLY

The display screen of an PowerPanel is actually a "soft" touchscreen, which can be quickly customized with easy-to-use Windows-based soft-ware. Depending on your application's requirements, you can createmultiple touchscreen displays that let you to monitor/control variousaspects of the machine/process. Changes to the control panel's design cannot make an PowerPanel obsolete, you simply modify the affected display

screens (via the software) to provide the modifications you need. This canall be accomplished on-line, without ever shutting down your operation.

WHY CHOOSE A POWERPANEL......OVER A TRADITIONAL HARDWIRED CONTROL PANEL?

With the PowerPanel, you will spend less than $1500 for the 5" monochrome model, plus, about $40 in installation. This brings the installed cost of the 5" standard mono-chrome unit to less than $1550, saving almost $750 over the hardwired control panel.

PowerPanels come in 5" monochrome, 5" color, 6" monochrome, 8" color, 9" Amber EL(electroluminescent), 10" color,and 10" Color High-Bright models.

The installed cost of an PowerPanel is often much lower than that of a traditional controlpanel because you only need to mount and wire one unit—once. If changes are ever neces-sary, you simply modify the PowerPanel's display screens. There's no expense of having torework and rewire the entire system.

Cost Saving Example: To see how an PowerPanel can save you money, consider the exam-ple on the next page. Each device on a panel has an "installed" cost which includes the costof the device, cost of mounting, cost of wiring and the cost of the I/O required to supportthat device. While comparing an PowerPanel vs. a hardwired control panel, take into con-sideration the installed costs. The table on the next page lists the components for a smallpanel along with various costs.

In this example, with an PowerPanel, not only will you SAVE $750, you get flexibilityand features not possible in traditional hardwired control panels.

A POWERPANEL IS......THE COST-EFFECTIVE SOLUTION

ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGES OF A POWERPANELPowerPanel offers many other features that electromechanical control panels simply cannot offer. The powerful front-end proces-sor with efficient Display Object Modeling provides for hundreds of screens with most effective memory utilization. ThePowerPanel can hold up to 1,000 screens you program-probably more than you should ever need. This is an order of magnitudemore screens than competition with comparable memory. Below are some of those features:

OIs support Bar Graphs

Multiple Entry Numeric Data Entry

PASSWORD SECURITYThe OI offers password protection to elimi-nate unauthorized use, which is very diffi-cult with traditional hard-wired systems. The PowerPanel from UTICOR offers 4 lev-els of password protection and up to 8 secu-rity access codes for selected functions.

ALARM MESSAGESPowerPanel can monitor several alarm con-ditions simultaneously. Alarm conditions areidentified by discrete bits being ON or OFF,or register values being out of set limits. Onalarm, the PowerPanel displays alarm mes-sages on the screen. To help troubleshootingand maintenance, the history of the last 64alarms are kept in the PowerPanel, ready forthe user to analyze.

BARGRAPHSUnlike electromechanical control panels,PowerPanels support bar graphs, which rep-resent numerical values in graphical form.Viewing bar graphs has advantages overnumerical values in some situations. Forexample, bar graphs are easily visible from a

distance. Typical applications of bar graphsinclude displaying process parameters, e.g.,showing liquid levels in a tank.

LINE GRAPHS AND TRENDINGPowerPanel supports line graphs. Its graphicscan show variations of register values over aperiod of time. This is an excellent tool tovisually display trending of process variables.

.DXF FILE IMPORTYou do not have to redraw an already createddrawing to display it on the PowerPanel's dis-play screens. PowerPanel allows the user toimport drawings in ".DXF" format, the most.

BIT MAP GRAPHICS FOR ICONSPowerPanel supports importation of bit mapgraphics (.BMP format), which can be creat-ed in any popular Windows-based software.Bit maps are usually used for small icons.

REALISTIC 3-D OPERATORCONTROLSMultiple shades allow displaying operatorinterface controls in 3-D with the look andfeel of traditional pushbuttons and pilotlights.

MESSAGE DISPLAYUnlike electromechanical control panels,PowerPanels can store messages. Messagesfrom a PLC can then be displayed by thePowerPanel. With UTICOR's PowerPanels, you can embed variable information withinthe messages.

NUMERIC DATA ENTRYPowerPanel offers keypads that allow you toenter numeric values. This feature is alsoused to modify control parameters.

OTHER ADVANTAGES OF APOWERPANELThe PowerPanel's capability for storing anddynamic switching of screens allows you togreatly reduce the overall size of themachine's control panel. PowerPanel alsoallows you to display context-sensitive helpfor set-up, operation and maintenance.

If you have a machine or process that cur-rently uses pushbuttons, pilot lights, indi-cators, or message displays, you can savetime and cost with a PowerPanel!

POWERPANELS ARE SIMPLY THE

BETTER OPTION!• Lower installed cost

• Easy to design and customize

• Easy-to-use

• Cost-efficient flexibility

• Complete versatility

• Incredible power in a compact size

Even if you have never used a graphicaloperator interface or any kind of softwaredriven product for your machine control, applying an PowerPanel is very easy.

When you order an PowerPanel, you get:

• A touchscreen PowerPanel and a hardware manual

• A PLC cable to connect the PowerPanel and PLC (optional)

• An optional computer cable to connect your PC to the PowerPanel, (used to set-up your PowerPanel).

• uWIN software and manual (specify if required)

The screen design software and the comput-er cable are required only to program thePowerPanel. Therefore, you do not need tobuy a computer cable for every OI.

Applying a PowerPanel to yourprocess/machine is straightforward and easy. The screen design software is installed onthe PC. The PowerPanel is mounted on thecontrol Panel and wired to the PLC, asshown in the diagram below.

Where applicable, cables are preterminatedso that you can wire the system quickly.

uWIN, PowerPanel's Windows-based screendesign software, is very user friendly. With

uWIN, you can create screens within min-utes. Essentially, all you do is point andclick. Select the appropriate Panel devices(called objects) and place them on yourscreens.

uWIN also lets you design screens either on-line (while the machine is running), or off-line; (you can design screens in your office, orremote site at your convenience).

Once the screens have been designed, theyare downloaded to the PowerPanel and themachine is ready for a start-up trial run.

Any last minute changes can be made "On-line" with the machine/process in operation.

As you can see, with ready-to-use cables anduser-friendly screen design software, you canhave a PowerPanel up and running muchfaster and easier, compared to a traditionalcontrol Panel.

As mentioned before, PowerPanel also offersflexibility. If your requirements change, forexample, another pushbutton is required, or anew display screen is needed, all you need todo is to modify the screen and download tothe PowerPanel. There are no wiring changes;no new cutouts required in the Panel.
