SCF

• One of 48 Community Foundations in UK• Founded 2006 • Staff of 7• Based in Lewes but covers West and East Sussex,

Brighton and HoveOur main purpose: to raise funds for and make grants to community groups and small charities across Sussex addressing disadvantage and deprivation

Scale of ambition

• In 2006/07 SCF awarded 40 grants (total value of around £130,000)

• In 2014/15 SCF awarded 430 grants (total value of around £1,100,000)

• Between 2006 and 2015 around £2,100,000 awarded to groups in East Sussex

• Of which just over £500,000 to groups and charities in Rother

Donors• 70+ different donor funds

• Community Foundation model allows donors to focus on their area of interest

• Funds come from donors who want to give something back to Sussex communities

Our Grant application process

• SCF 4 grant rounds each year – about every 12 weeks• Funds – some 4 times each year, some twice and some only

once• Often additional pots of money during the year, e.g. Comic

Relief Community Cash, Hastings and Rother Health Fund

Who can apply?• Volunteer led community groups & smaller charities

• You should have – a constitution/set of rules a management committee a bank account for the group accounts or signed records of expenditure where appropriate, the relevant policies CIC 34 Form (only from Community Interest Companies)

• Unsure if you can apply? Contact SCF or your local Voluntary Action or CVS

How much and what can you apply for?

• Generally SCF grants are for between £1000 and £5000

• Funding might support: Equipment Events or outings Materials Training Running costs

Some tips• Apply in good time• Read SCF ‘Guidance Notes’• Identify and contact your referee in good time• Check anything you’re not sure about with the SCF Grants

Team• Ensure your application and supporting documents are with

SCF by 1700 on closing date

What happens next?

• Approximately 8 weeks from closing date to decision notification

• We will contact you if we need further information or clarification about your application

• Panels meet and decisions made• Final panel meeting brings together all activity for the round• And finally a word about feedback and reapplying (if you’re

not successful this time)
