Step 3 Select wash cyclePush timer knob in and turn to desired cycleand wash time. Timer knob can be turned ineither direction. Wash cycle selectiondepends upon type of fabric and amount ofsoil. SOAKUse for heavily soiled or staineditems. Washtub fills with water, pauses approximately 12 minutesfor soaking, and spins water out tocomplete cycle.

HAND WASHUse for fine fabrics normallywashed by hand. To protect fragilefabrics, washer speed automatical-ly runs at Delicate/Slow.

DELICATEUse to wash delicate items oftenwashed by hand. Even with smallloads, full tub of water is recom-mended so items can move freelyfor more complete cleaning. Morewater also helps reduce fabricwear and wrinkling. To protect deli-cate fabrics, washer speed auto-matically runs at Delicate/Slow.

WRINKLE FREE FABRICSUse for clothes that recommend apermanent press cycle and othersynthetics.

REGULARUse for sturdy items, like play orwork clothes, towels, T-shirts, etc.

SPECIAL LAUNDRY TIPSNEED MORE TIME? RESET THE TIMER KNOB.Although wash cycles are automatic, timermay be reset to lengthen, shorten, orrepeat a portion of a cycle.

To set or reset timer, push in timer knob tostop washer. Hold in timer knob firmlywhile slowly turning it to desired setting.Pull out timer knob to start washer.

STOPS AND STARTSWash action consists of periods of agita-tion, with pauses or periods of soaking. For best results, do not turn timer throughpauses, which are normal part of washcycles.

CLEANER CLOTHESWater temperature affects how cleanclothes become. If your clothes are not asclean as you would like, check your waterheater temperature. Check your waterheater manufacturer's recommendations,as well as local codes, for assistance. Also, check that your water hoses arehooked up correctly. If they are switchedyou might be getting cold water in yourwarm and hot cycles.

Hard water does not remove soil as wellas soft water. Check with your local watercompany to see if you have hard water. Ifyou have hard water, try softening it witha packaged conditioner or use a littlemore detergent.

RISERSRisers or air cushions may be installed ifpipes knock or pound when flow of waterstops. Risers are more efficient wheninstalled as close as possible to watersupply faucets.

SPECIAL LAUNDRY TIPS CONT.

Lint filterMaytag's self cleaning lint filter worksthroughout the wash cycle to constantlyremove lint and other residue from thewater. Located between the outer andinner tub, the lint filter removes lint aswater passes from the bottom of the outertub back to the inner tub. As water passesfrom the outer tub to the inner tub, wateris forced through the bottom of the lint fil-ter. The filter traps lint under the filter untilthe spin cycle begins. During the spincycle centrifugal force removes the lint bypulling it off the bottom of the filter andwashing it down the drain.

Motor overload protectorInternal overload protector automaticallystops motor in event of overload.Overload protector resets in approximate-ly 3 minutes and motor automaticallyrestarts. If overload protector stops motoragain, stop using washer and call servicetechnician. Loading wash tub too full mayresult in motor overload.

Automatic balance systemYour new washer will automatically adjustto unbalanced loads without shuttingdown or interrupting the cycle. The cyclewill automatically complete at the fastestspin speed possible.

In a severe out-of-balance condition, clothes may contain excessive moisture. Ifthis should happen, simply redistribute theclothes, and reset the control to the spinmark after the rinse setting in the regularcycle.

Safety lid switchThe washer will not spin when the lid isopen for any reason. This is for your per-sonal safety. If the lid is opened mid-cycle,operation will automatically start when lidis closed.

General washer care• Use only damp or sudsy cloth for

cleaning control panel. Some cleaningproduct sprays may harm control panelfinish or may damage interior of hood.

• Wipe washer cabinet as needed. Ifdetergent, bleach, or other washingproducts are spilled on cabinet, wipeimmediately. Some products will causepermanent damage if spilled on cabi-net.

• Top of washer should not be used forremoving garment stains. Some stainremovers, such as rust remover, maydamage cabinet finish.

• Do not use scouring pads or abrasivecleansers.

• Do not lay sharp or rough objects on oragainst washer. Finish could be dam-aged.

• Remove pins, buckles, or other sharpobjects from clothes to preventscratching interior parts.

• Leave lid open after use to allow insideof washer to dry, and to help preventmusty odors from developing.

• Do not allow small children to play onor around washer.

• Do not move washer without rein-stalling shipping brace and shippingplug. See Moving Washer to NewLocation section.

Cold storage and non-use periodsCOLD WEATHER CAREIf washer is delivered when outside tem-perature is below freezing or if washer isstored in unheated room or area duringcold months, do not operate until wash-er has warmed to room temperature.Do not install or operate washer wheretemperatures will drop below freezing.

COLD WEATHER STORAGEIf washer must be stored in seasonalhome or storage building, use one of thefollowing storage methods.

METHOD 11. Turn off water supply faucets and dis-

connect hoses. Drain water from bothhoses.

2. Add one gallon of non-toxic RVantifreeze (available from hardwareor recreational vehicle dealers) towasher tub.

3. Push in cycle selector knob and turnto SPIN.

4. Pull knob out and let washer spin for1–2 minutes to drain water. Someantifreeze will also be lost. (If youhave a septic system, contactantifreeze manufacturer and makesure it will not harm system.)

5. Push in cycle selector knob to stopwasher. Dry inner wash tub, discon-nect electrical plug, and close washerlid. If moving washer, disconnectdrain hose. Move and store washer

ONLY in upright position. To removeantifreeze after storage, run washerthrough a complete cycle using 1/2cup of detergent. DO NOT ADDCLOTHES TO CYCLE.

METHOD 21. Push in cycle selector knob and turn

to SPIN. Run through complete spincycle to remove excess water.

2. When spin cycle is complete, push incycle selector knob to stop washer.

3. Turn off water supply faucets and dis-connect hoses. Drain water from bothhoses.

4. Dry inner wash tub, disconnect elec-trical plug, and close washer lid. Ifmoving washer, disconnect drainhose. Move and store washer ONLYin upright position.

5. It is normal for some water to remaininside pump. To prevent damage towasher and pump if remaining waterfreezes, allow washer to warm 24 to48 hours after removing from stor-age, so water can thaw before use.

Explosive hydrogen gas may be pro-duced in a hot water system that has notbeen used for two weeks or more. Before using washer, if hot water sys-tem has not been used for such a peri-od, turn on all hot water faucets and letwater flow for several minutes to releaseaccumulated hydrogen gas. Hydrogengas is flammable: Do not smoke or usean open flame when flushing waterlines.

WARNING:

MOVING AND STORAGE

VACATIONS AND EXTENDED NON-USEIMPORTANT: To avoid possible propertydamage from flooding, turn off water sup-ply to washer during extended periods ofnon-use.

To prevent mold or mildew, leave lid openso moisture inside machine can evapo-rate.

When closing your home for extendedperiods, have service technician drainwasher to avoid stagnant water. Unplugcord from electrical outlet. Disconnecthoses from faucets.

WATERDo not overload washer.

Rearrange load to allow proper spin.

Straighten drain hose.

Check water pressure at another faucet in house. Wait for watersupply and pressure to increase.
