System engineering Context

What is System Engineering? !  Requirements engineering, System development, manufacturing, system validation, system deployment, operation support, system

support and system dismantling..

!  Information building and broadcasting to support decision making in close integration with project management Aim is Mastering Complex Systems !  Key issue for French Companies

!  Challenge to compete worldwide in all different domains (transportation, defence, finance, health system, security, energy, etc.) Complex Systems deal with : !  Lot of various disciplines : civil engineering, mechanical engineering, automation, software, production, support, human factors, etc.),

but also business sphere (finance, purchasing, etc.)

SE provides Global Vision and delivers solution to organize and manage the multidisciplinary and multi domains activities.

System engineering involves all Stakeholders concerned by System Definition & development, covering all System Life Cycle.

11 Mai 2019 Présentation institutionnelle

To promote SE by boosting : SE awareness, SE principles spreading, multidisciplinary approach, etc. in order to help delivering & support successful complex systems : !  Foster SE approach & use towards public & private companies and governmental organizations !  Promote SE Education & Training by actions towards University, Engineer Schools, Teachers &

Professors, Research Labs,

!  Encourage Users exchanges, enhance SE knowledge database, act to scale SE methodology & tools (various domains, various companies

!  Participate to enlarge the national & international visibility of SE Users, by providing relevant information

Mastering Complex Systems is a major challenge for French & European Industry

AFIS aims to play a major role to develop and support the SE extension, in order to help French Companies to improve their position in the Complex Systems

worldwide

AFIS objectives

12 Présentation institutionnelle Mai 2019

AFIS governance and management is based on 3 levels : !  Strategic: Corporate Advisory Board !  Tactical: Board of directors !  Operational: Technical committees (Working Group): organized in Investigation Group and Project A Technical Directorate is in charge of the coordination of the activities

AFIS organization

Corporate Advisory Board (each college benefit from weighted vote) : ! GG Large enterprises College ! ETI College (less than 5000 employees) ! SME College (less than 250 employees) ! TPE College (less than 25 employees) ! Research & Education College ! Individual Members Representative Corporate Advisory Board responsibilities are : ! Annual budget definition (Members fees) & allocated Projects budget ! Define multi annual Strategic Plan ! Projects elicitation, proposed by Technical Committees, and supported by project manager ! Suggest technical orientation towards Technical Direction and CTs

Technical committees

The AFIS Technical Committees are coordinated by the Technical Directorate. They offer opportunity to the members to challenge their own experience and to work within a network. The results of their work are available for the members and can be published. AFIS has an agreement with French editor (CEPADUES) for books publishing.

Technical committees

! Competency and Training (CT FC : [email protected]) To develop a skill reference baseline, to encourage the certification process, to develop RobAFIS competition, to promote SE to training and research centers, to elaborate training documents on SE, to propose foundation material for training (initial, continuous) and their endorsement. ! Throughout Life cycle processes (CT PG : [email protected])To analyse and to facilitate deployment and usage of applicable SE processes throughout the life cycle of a solution (system of Interest and enabling systems). To adapt and customize these processes to value-added approaches (System Thinking, Collaborative Engineering, Product policy, Lean for SE, Agility). To assess the current standards, their overlapping and complementarity, their relevance to changes for improvement. ! Safety, Validation and LSI (CT SV2S : [email protected])To study problems on safety, security, maintainability, verification, validation, qualification of Systems, as well as model-based logistic support engineering. ! Human Factors (CT FH : [email protected])To collect and to analyse the impact of mature human factors methods used at design time and to identify their integration into the system life cycle. To promote human-centric approach and human-system integration as best practices for Systems Engineering. ! Systems of Systems & Services – Architecting and Engineering (CT 3S-AI : [email protected])To promote the foundations and to develop concepts related to Systems of Systems Engineering, Services Engineering, Architecting and Architecture frameworks, Complex Systems, Systems and Organizations interoperability.

17 Présentation institutionnelle Mai 2019

Technical committees

! SE research & Innovation (CT RIIS : [email protected])To identify and to promote academic research and their maturity level in SE, to clarify SE problems from a scientific perspective, to encourage advanced SE research and their deployment within organizations, to liaise AFIS with the SE French research.

! System Engineering Management (CT MIS : [email protected])All along the life cycle of a System (from its concepts to its retirement), to identify and to promote methods, models, practices, tools which are used to control and adjust Systems Engineering efforts in a project management context and the SE teams organization within multi partners extended enterprises.

! Model Based System Engineering (CT MBSE : [email protected])Promote and improve the knowledge and skills of the actors using models in Systems Engineering, share a common under-standing of MBSE approach, encourage and extend system modelling, evaluate the modelling specificities of cases like Systems of Systems or Product-lines, analyse standardized modelling approaches per industrial domains.

! Configuration Management (CT GC : [email protected]) The purpose of Configuration Management (CM) is to manage and control system (and any related enabling system) elements and configurations all over its life cycle.
