Block.one
Block.one is the leader in high-performance blockchain software. In 2018, it published the EOSIO software, a free, open-source protocol designed to be adapted and utilized by the developer community and companies to create a secure and transparent back-end system. Brendan was an early investor in blockchain and transitioned to full-time involvement in the space in 2016 when he met business partner Dan Larimer and they co-founded Block.one.
Prior to Block.one, Brendan launched and exited a series of successful businesses. At age 15, he founded his first company, Gamecliff, which sold digital assets used in one of the world’s most popular online Role Playing Games, World of Warcraft, and was eventually acquired. In 2007, he started The Accounts Network, a first-of-its-kind online marketplace for in-game avatars used in Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, capturing 75% market share and generating USD 1 million revenue in just 3 months.
In 2010, he founded Okay.com, which leveraged technology to empower and inform real estate consultants and consumers about market conditions.

Dan is one of the leading innovators, engineers and thought leaders in the blockchain space. He is the co-founder of an array of successful blockchain companies, most notably the decentralized exchange BitShares, the social media network Steemit, and Block.one, publisher of the EOSIO protocol, all of which provide industrial and enterprise-grade blockchain solutions utilizing the widely-adopted Delegated Proof of Stake (DPOS) consensus mechanism, which he invented.
Recognized as an industry pioneer, Dan is one of the most high-profile figures in the blockchain arena, having garnered a decade’s worth of entrepreneurial and technical experience in the field.

What Is a Blockchain?
A blockchain is a growing list of records, “blocks”, which are linked using cryptography. Each block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp, and transaction data.
By design, a blockchain is resistant to modification of the data. It is “an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way.”
Blockchain Characteristics
A Database Technology, Not an Industry· It can be used to create and track digital representations of any type of asset, item or idea (including natively digital goods)
· It will impact a variety of industries including social media, financial services, healthcare, retail, gaming and energy and can be used for supply chain tracking and identity management
· It is important to recognize the broad array of assets and other items that can be digitized on blockchains, including tangible assets such as gold, coffee cups, shoes and collectibles
· Creating a digital representation of an asset does not change the asset’s character or nature
