Introduction to “JIPFA: JICA Platform for Food and Agriculture” Mechanisms of information sharing and collaborative work system establishment among industries, government and universities to contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) JICA will further develop our relationships with those who have deepened the collaboration in ODA projects, etc. and establish the “JICA Platform for Food and Agriculture” in April 2019. JICA is looking forward to attendees interested in this platform from government agencies, universities/research institutions, international organizations, private companies/industry groups, NGOs, media, etc.

Mechanisms of information sharing and collaborative work system establishment among

industries, government and universities to contribute to achieving Sustainable

Development Goals (SDGs)

JICA will further develop our relationships with those who have deepened the

collaboration in ODA projects, etc. and establish the “JICA Platform for Food and

Agriculture” in April 2019. JICA is looking forward to attendees interested in this

platform from government agencies, universities/research institutions,

international organizations, private companies/industry groups, NGOs, media, etc.

Name of subcommittee Contents/Activities

1.ASEAN FVC

JICA and ASEAN are in the preparation process of “ASEAN-JICA Food Value Chain Development Project” which will cover main four cooperation areas,namely ASEAN-GAP, sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS), food safety in fisheries and promotion of PPP based on FVC. The subcommittee exchanges opinions with interested domestic partners such as private companies, universities, research institutions, government agencies for formulating and enriching the project.

2.Indonesia

The subcommittee exchanges opinions and information with related organizations such as private companies, universities, research institutes, government agencies, civil society and international organizations for the implementation of agricultural and rural development activities in Indonesia.

3.Myanmar

The subcommittee exchanges opinions and information with related organizations such as private companies, universities, research institutes, government agencies, civil society and international organizations for the implementation of agricultural and rural development activities in Myanmar.

4.FVC in Latin America

The subcommittee exchanges opinions and information related to strengthen FVC in Latin America with use of Japanese technologies.Forming projects by collaboration between public and private sectors in Latin America. Planning to conduct project formation by the collaboration among private sectors in several countries.

5. Africa FVC

The subcommittee exchanges opinions for the formulation of the project under industry-government-academia collaboration in Africa. JICA will conduct survey or local seminar based on business proposal submitted by the member organization.

6. Africa’s rice cultivationThe subcommittee exchanges opinions and considers specific efforts among industry-government-academia group in order to promotion of CARD (Coalition for African Rice Development).

7.Smart Food Chain

The subcommittee share the latest trends and exchange opinions with industry-government-academia group of digital transformation in food and agriculture sector in order to co-create Smart Food Chain which is consisted by smart breeding, smart agriculture, smart processing and logistics and smart marketing for future ODA projects in the developingcountries .

8.Agricultural Machinery

The subcommittee discusses on agricultural mechanization promotion and exchanges opinions on efforts in ODA projects in cooperation with industry groups, universities and research institutes. JICA conducted fields surveys on rice farming machinery in Senegal, Tanzania and Ivory Coast based on opinion exchange with related organizations in FY2019.

9.Sesame seeds

The Sub-Committee was launched in FY2014 as “Sesame Platform” before JiPFA to exchange opinions on the promotion of safe and secure sesame production, distribution and the projects in cooperation with industry groups, universities and research institutes. The committee also discuss on the specific topics such as the regulations concerning residual agricultural chemicals and the progresses of JICA projects in Paraguay, Myanmar and Burkina Faso.

10. Livestock & Animal Health

The Sub-Committee exchanges opinions and information with related organizations such as industry groups, private companies, universities, research institutes and government agencies, in order to build a network of related parties, formulate and implement effective projects for promotion of livestock industry, enhancement of animal health, improvement of veterinary human resources and “One Health” approach (measures against zoonotic diseases) in developing countries.

11. Fishery

The Sub-Committee exchanges information and opinions by seminars with related organizations such as private companies, NPOs, universities and government agencies, and strengthens the network to promote fisheries development (sustainable and profitable use of fisheries resources) in developing countries and Japan.

12. Human Resource Development

The sub-committee will discuss on industry-government-academia collaboration in acceptance of international students in order to improve the quality of scholarship programs as well as human resource development of Japanese young personnel engaged in the international cooperation in the future.

13. State for Regional Revitalization

The sub-committee will strengthen the relationship of trust between “local areas in developing countries that send Foreign nationals (including technical intern trainees)" and “local areas in Japan that accept Foreign nationals" to secure the quality of technical intern trainees, strengthen matching, cooperate in advance training. In addition to these supports, the committee will discuss on how to provide proper support after returning to their countries for technical intern trainees.The committee will share information such as good practices and how to optimize the program for building a model that local areas in developing countries and local areas in Japan will develop together.
