INTRODUCTION TO
PARALLEL
NETWORKING
Also known as “air gapped” networking.
Application: The expansion of technology has created a tipping point in networking security and performance, as more advanced applications require additional bandwidth and expand the network edge. Establishing a parallel network using 4G LTE enables businesses to connect their new applications, while keeping their core network separate and secure.
Benefits to end user:▪ Enable the latest technologies without taking up bandwidth needed by critical applications, such
as PoS▪ Keep the network edge secure – remember Target’s failure to do so in the USA▪ Can connect in virtually any location; perfect for adding new technologies to existing shop floor
layouts▪ Simple installation for plug and play connectivity▪ Can support all business applications using 4G LTE▪ Enterprise-grade security ▪ No extended lead times▪ Easily scales; connect 1000 sites as easily as 1
Introducing Parallel Networking
Parallel Networking | Secure Connectivity
Parallel networking enables businesses to deploy the latest technological advancements in their industry, without risking the security or performance of their core network.
Introducing Parallel Networking
Parallel Networking | Scenario Example 1
Digital signage requires connectivity for remote updates to the system and to deliver new content, yet this is often managed by a third party meaning using the primary connectivity isn’t an option for security reasons. A parallel network using 4G LTE enables the signage to get connected, without touching or compromising the primary network.
Chosen content management system communicates new content over the 4G LTE cellular network…
Content is received over cellular network by a cellular device and then passed on to the signage, without touching the core network.

Introducing Parallel Networking
Parallel Networking | Scenario Example 2
ATMs or CashPoints are often set up in convenient locations for consumers, but need to be managed by the owning bank or organisation remotely. Connecting the ATM to the primary network in the secondary location isn’t considered secure by the bank, so by using cellular they can easily establish a parallel network to remotely manage and monitor the machine.
ATM is installed in the secondary location, e.g.shopping centre or local convenience store, and thenconnected over cellular to the bank’s HQ or NOC.
The cellular connection is used to securely send and retrieve data from the machine. This enables the bank to monitor its status without needing toconnect it to the site’s primary network.
