RUBRICS 2

What is rubric?

• A set of criteria and performance indicators (KPIs)

arranged according to the expected level of performance.

RUBRICS 3

(A useful tool for assessing students` performance)

RUBRICS 4

Types of rubric.

1. Holistic rubric.

2. Analytic rubric.

RUBRICS 5

Purpose of Rubric

To communicate to the students what is expected in a given

KPI before it occurs and also to assess the quality of the KPIs

once it has been completed.

RUBRICS 6

This rubric provide a single score based on an overall

impression of a student`s performance on a task assigned.

Holistic rubric:

Advantage: Quick scoring and provides an overview of student`s achievement.

Disadvantage: Does not provide detailed information of the overall score.

RUBRICS 7

Analytic rubric:

This rubric used to score student`s work on multiple criteria or

dimensions (KPIs) with each KPI scored separately.

Advantage: Provide useful feedback on areas of strength and weakness.

Disadvantage: 1. Takes more time to create in comparison with holistic rubric. 2. Time consuming to score.

RUBRICS 8

S. No. Holistic rubric Analytic rubric

1. Consist of a single scale with all criteria to be considered together.

Breaks the objective into components (KPIs).

2. A single score is assigned. Each KPI is scored independently using a rating scale.

3. Instructor score the overall process or assignment as a whole without judging component part separately.

Final score is made up of adding each KPI score.

RUBRICS 9

Advantages of the rubrics for Instructors

• Consistency of the KPIs among all the students.

• Leads to insight concerning the effectiveness of instruction.

• Clarifies the criteria in specific terms.

• Performance analysis becomes easier.

• Shows areas that need improvements.

• Established ground rules to resolve potential academic disputes.

RUBRICS 10

Advantages of the rubrics for students (see the goal to achieve)

• Helps to define quality.

• Instructors expectations are clear.

• Manner in which to meet the expectations are clear.

• Students can better judge and revise their own work and

assist their peers.

• Vehicle for students feedback, promote students/faculty.

RUBRICS 11

Now Work Time

1. Evaluate your rubric- Are you using the right type:

Holistic / Analytic.

2. Modify existing rubric.

3. Create your own rubric.

RUBRICS 12

1. Task description Assignment

2. Scale Levels of achievement

3. Dimensions A breakdown of the skills/ knowledge involved in the assignment (KPIs).

4. Description What constitutes of each level of performance for each dimensions. Specific feedback
