The Technical University of Košice has educated more than 39,000 alumni during the 55 years if its existence.

The Technical University of Košice was founded in 1952, but theactual origin of the roots of two of its faculties must be sought inthe 18th century, as they are connected to the Mining Academyin Banská Štiavnica, established by the Austro-Hungarianmonarch Maria Theresa in 1762.

The Technical University of Košice (hereinafter referred to asTUKE) is a public university. It has:

- 9 Faculties,

- over 16,000 students,

- 900 professors, associate professors, assistant professors,

- 900 research workers and other staff.

Research Projects at TUKE

• Technical University of Košice carried out:- 2005 12 projects of 6th Framework Programme withthe financial volume of € 350,000,- 2006 20 projects with the financial volume of € 700,000– 100% increase,- 2007 7 new projects within 7th Framework Programmein the value of €1,400,000 for the following 2 years.

• Total financial volume of European research and developmentprojects funding for the Technical University of Košice in theperiod of 2006 to 2010 amounts to € 4,171,360.

APVV Research Projects at TUKE

Projects funded by Slovak Research and Development Agency (APVV) haveincreased steadily in number, as well as in the volume of finances allocated toTUKE. While in 2005 they amounted to SKK 6 mil. for 9 projects, in 2006 therewas 18 projects with SKK 18 mil and in 2007 as many as 21 projects funded withSKK 22 mil.

International cooperation of TUKE

International cooperation of TUKE with partner universities abroad isbased on Cooperation Agreements.

At present there are 42 university-level agreements and 62 faculty-levelagreements.

The most recent agreements have been concluded between TUKE and:• University of Akureyri, Iceland• Ovidius University of Constanta, Romania• Kaunas university of Technology, Lithuania• University of Perugia, Italy• University of Bielsko-Biala, Poland• Belarusian National Technical University, Minsk, Belarus

Other countries/partners having agreements with TUKE are:Hungary, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, France, China,

Finland, Serbia, Austria, Russia, USA

Main areas of ÚVT activities:• Computer networks

- development and operation of communication infrastructure of theuniversity computer network TUNET, connection to the SlovakAcademic Data Net SANET with the speed of 1 GB per second,- operation of network services for more than 1,800 employees andover 13,000 students of TUKE – e-mail, central authentication usingLDAP server, operation of TUKE www server, firewall, discussionclubs, hypernews, ftp, monitoring of the TUNET computer network, etc.

• Information systems- development, implementation, administration and operation, includingintegration of institutional information systems based on moderntechnologies, such as SQL, client/server, multilayer architectures, www,such as information system IS Student/ka and financial informationsystem SAP R/3, including the human resources management module.

PROGRAMME:• The study consists of lectures given by associate professors,

professors and assistant professors of nine TUKE faculties.• The lectures are accompanied by demonstrations and experiments

in laboratories, showrooms and studios, and the tour round theuniversity campus. The topics of the lectures are based on thelecturers‘ specialization, but they are adapted to participants‘ ageand interests. Each lecture is followed by a discussion and childrenare encouraged to ask questions.

• Children are given T-shirts with TUKE Children‘s University logo, aswell as selected lecture materials on their first meeting.

• During the study children are provided with lunch at the TUKE dininghalls, drinking schedule and attendance.

• Children have record books like university students.• The study is concluded by a graduation ceremony performed in

presence of parents and relatives, where the children receive theirdiplomas from the Rector of TUKE.
