Weekly fee includes all field trip admissions, open swimming, program t-shirt and program supplies. Financial assistance available for all programs.Qualified teachers lead 3- 5-year-old children in activities that help prepare them for their school years. Based upon a weekly theme, your child will learn to write, rhyme, use math skills, follow directions, interact with other children, recognize and express feelings, and use words to solve conflict. They will also make friends and have fun as they sing songs, participate in arts and crafts, nature studies and much more. Variable schedules offered, including 2-, 3-, or 5-day options.

SUMMER POWER

Entering grades K – 5 in fall, 2018

Summer Power is a flexible full-day enrichment program focused on quality, small group, age-appropriate activities. Kids stay active with two field trips per week, swimming and group games. We provide a healthy living experience by educating on healthy food choices and the right balance of physical activity. Kids engage in a variety of values-strengthening activities including core elements of science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM), and service projects.

SUMMER POWER THEMESMagnify Your MindWeek of June 11 – June 15

Challenge yourself this week to expand your mind and explore the wonders of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). Get ready to get messy as you create your own slime, make sink or float scientific predictions, construct the tallest cup tower, and build a structure out of marshmallows and spaghetti.

Splash and DashWeek of June 18 – June 22

Beat the summer heat with splash-tacular fun! Get soaked in this water-filled week of swimming, water balloon games, water relays, sprinklers, and more.

Rockin’ Sock Hop Week of June 25 – June 29

Stomp your feet and move to the beat! This week we will be movin’ and groovin’ to the music, creating musical instruments, and having a dance party!

Destination USAWeek of July 2 – July 6 No program July 4

Participate in activities that celebrate our country and community, show pride in our citizens, culture, and land. Activities and games will include whiffle ball, four square, fruit kabobs, a community clean-up, and field trips to historical destinations.

Too Fit to QuitWeek of July 9 – July 13

On your mark, get set, go! It’s non-stop fun as we get moving with a week full of games & activities that focus on having fun, developing sportsmanship, and learning how to stay active.

Navigating NatureWeek of July 16 – July 20

The great outdoors beckons you during this fun-filled week complete with bugs, nature crafts, outdoor scavenger hunts, nature hikes, and more! Be prepared to be amazed by the wonderful world around us.

Artrageous Week of July 23 – July 27

Prepare to have fun with outrageous arts & crafts using water-colors, chalk, clay, and more! Additional activities might include learning origami, painting with marbles, and tie-dying t-shirts.

Become a Twin Cities tourist as we explore our fine metro area. We will spend the week learning about Minnesota and visiting local tourist attractions & parks.

What does the future hold? We will ask this question and more as we attempt to unlock the secrets of the universe. Get ready to expand your minds and dream beyond the limits of today’s world. We will play galaxy tag, make moon sand, and visit local science attractions.

Drama-o-RamaWeek of August 13 – August 17

Lights, camera, action! It’s time to step into the spotlight and showcase your talents. Be a star as you discover your talents and share them with your friends. Field trips might include a theatrical performance, magicians, or a behind the scenes tour of a production company.

Kids on the MoveWeek of August 20 – August 24

It’s fun to be healthy! We will keep the kids moving this week and reinforce the importance of a healthy lifestyle. We’ll provide physical activity and encourage healthy eating habits through fun nutrition lessons.

Endless SummerWeek of August 27 – August 31

Celebrate the end of summer! Let’s keep the summer going forever by playing our favorite outdoor games, joining in on water activities, and continuing to explore the cities we live in.

SUMMER SPORTS

Kids of all skill levels and abilities can choose from a variety of sports to explore this summer in week-long YMCA Summer Sports camps.

TRACK AND FIELDWeek of June 11

Kids learn the proper techniques of running, pacing, jumping and throwing.

BASEBALL/ TBALL/ SOFTBALLWeeks of June 18 and August 6

Participants develop and improve skills: throwing, catching, pitching, hitting and running bases. FIELD TRIP: Week of June 18: Twins Game.

SOCCERWeeks of June 11, July 23 and August 27

Kids will work through curriculum focused on ball-control, passing, trapping, shooting and defense. Participants have the option of bringing their own shin guards and cleats.

CHEERWeeks of June 18 and July 16

Kids learn the ins and outs of basic and advanced cheer moves. Finish the week participating in a choreographed routine put to music.

BASKETBALLWeeks of June 25, July 16 and August 20

Players will progress through the skills of basketball: dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive skills through drills. FIELD TRIP: Week of July 16: Lynx Game.

LACROSSEWeek of June 25

Our lacrosse instruction is designed to stimulate a kid’s love of the game through focus on skills, drills and rules of the game.

Friday Play Days give participants the opportunity to put their hard work and new skills into action by engaging in friendly competition and scrimmaging against other YMCA locations at the end of each week.

Kids will practice on a local golf course where young golfers will have an opportunity to improve their driving, chipping and putting. Bring your own golf clubs; but clubs are available if needed.

FLAG FOOTBALLWeeks of July 9 and August 13

Kids play every position and learn the basic offense and defense skills including catching, passing and capturing the flag.

FLOOR HOCKEYWeeks of July 9 and August 13

Kids can improve their stick handling, passing and shooting skills through drills and our hockey curriculum.

TENNISWeek of July 30

Participants learn the fundamentals of tennis with trained instructors. Kids are encouraged to bring their own racquet. Tennis balls are provided.

VOLLEYBALLWeek of July 23

Kids learn about the sport of volleyball including rules, communication skills, serving, setting and passing.

DISC GOLFEntering grades 1 – 8 in fall, 2018 Week of July 30Participants will learn different throwing techniques and increase concentration skills while learning the etiquette of this popular twist to traditional golf.

Uproar brings a multitude of character development experiences to kids through community involvement, leadership activities, team building exercises, goal setting and more. Days are filled with field trips, outings to amusement and water parks, and fun group activities that exercise the body, challenge the mind and nurture the spirit of our youth.

Start your preschooler’s love affair with the great outdoors by enrolling him or her in Wee Backpackers! From the moment campers arrive each day, counselors guide them through traditional camp experiences including hiking, nature study, canoeing, and arts and crafts. They will have opportunities to savor the wonderful flavors of outdoor cookouts, sing songs, tell stories, meet new friends, and more. All activities are geared to show your preschool camper the wonders of nature. Wee Backpackers is carried out under the watchful eye of counselors trained to meet the needs of young campers. The Wee Backpacker program maintains a low staff to child ratio.

Kids free their imaginations and develop improvisational skills! Campers explore the world of theater through games, acting exercises, working on a script and even performing for an audience. This camp is great for building self-esteem. Staff includes actors and teachers from Black Dirt Theater, our local theater company.

SUPER HEROES CAMPEntering grades 1 – 3 in fall, 2018

BAM! POW! KAZAM! Kids think, dress, and act like superheroes! Kids bring their own superhero costume or make one at camp. Suiting up as their favorite superhero each day, they’ll explore their own super powers. Activities include super games, super crafts and super fun. Where else can kids spend the day as their alter-ego superhero, meet other superheroes and save the world?

Campers become “Eco-Explorers” as they investigate the natural surroundings at camp. We will take forest treks, prairie walks and tours to explore our local wildlife. Activities include: bug safaris, nature hunt and more!

FARM AND GARDEN CAMPEntering grades 1 – 3 in fall, 2018

Weeks of June 18, July 16, July 30 and August 13

Kids working the farm will explore gardens, fields, and pastures. Young farmers experience the daily routines of feeding and caring for farm animals. Campers discover how plants, animals, soil and people work together to produce the food that we eat every day. Plus they’ll learn what it means to be a good steward in this unique farming experience.

FISHING CAMPEntering grades 4 – 6 in fall, 2018

Kids get hooked on fishing as they learn basic fishing skills. Lakes provide the scene for fishing fun using the catch-and- release method. Campers can bring their own pole and tackle, or equipment will be provided.

This camp is perfect for our young scholars who are passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. Campers will spend the week engaged in hands on, interactive projects. We will figure out how things work and why it’s important. Activities may include Legos, robotics, science experiments, plus more! There will be lots of learning, using their imaginations, and exploring the indoors and outdoors at camp!

Campers strike out on a bold adventure as they test their strength, strategy and skill. Climbers learn about basic climbing, belay techniques, knot tying and climbing safety. Fun team challenge initiatives will aid in a successful climb. Two to three hours a day will be spent on the Challenge Course at a variety of Y camps.

HORSE CAMPS

Horse Camp Location: YMCA Camp St. Croix 532 County Road F Hudson, WI 54016

Day Camp Spring Lake riding program is progressively structured to provide campers with a fun experience. Camp Spring Lake is excited to partner with YMCA Camp St. Croix for our Horse Camp program. Camp St. Croix prides itself on well-trained horses, nicely groomed trails, beautiful scenery and knowledgeable staff that will do their utmost to make your ride an experience to remember. Instruction is provided at the staging area and on the horses. Safety is our top priority at Horse Camp. For our horse program, we recommend that participants wear leather shoes or boots with a 1” heel. Long pants and protective helmets are required of all participants. Helmets will be provided by the camp. Our Horse Camp is a progressive recreational riding program and is not intended to replace formal riding lessons. Alternative programs may be planned if weather conditions such as extreme heat, rain, or wind jeopardize the safety of campers or horses.

COLTS – INTRODUCTORY LEVELEntering grades 3 – 6 in fall, 2018

Weeks of June 18, July 16, July 30 and August 13

During the week-long session, 2 hours per day, will be spent on-site at YMCA Camp St. Croix where the basics of western horseback riding are introduced for first-time riders. Instruction includes safety, leading, mounting, dismounting, reining and basic ring riding. Campers will be bussed to and from Camp St. Croix.

BUCKAROOS – INTERMEDIATE LEVELEntering grades 4 – 6 in fall, 2018

Previous Colts or similar experience preferred.Member Participants: $365/week Non-Member Program Participants: $390/week

Weeks of June 18, July 16, July 30 and August 13

Buckaroos is an intermediate program for campers with at least one year of riding experience. Two hours of daily instruction at stables includes a basic skill review. The remainder of the day is spent in traditional camp activities. Campers will be bussed to and from Camp St. Croix.

Two-Week Sessions: June 18 – 29, July 23 – August 3 and August 6 – 17 (10 days/session)

Rise to the challenge in Leaders-in-Training Camp and discover your leadership qualities. You will learn and develop the necessary camp skills needed to lead camper activities, as well as group responsibility through activity planning. You will have opportunities to shadow counselors and assist staff in camp activities. There will be plenty of time to hang out with friends – new and old. Come experience camp from a whole new perspective!

Learn the basics of digital photography and be able to experience with both portrait and landscape photography. Each day will be a different theme. You must bring a digital camera. No phones please.

Take to the stage to learn and perform, participate in improv, act in theater skits, and create craft projects. You will learn from staff of the Black Dirt Theater, our local theater company.

Develop your camping skills as you work together to set up camp at Spring Lake. Learn a variety of useful camping skills that including: building a fire, shelters building, knot tying, campfire cooking, navigating maps and more!

Teen specialty campers spend a portion of each day in their specialized activity.

The remainder of the day is spent enjoying Traditional Camp activities.

Get hooked on fishing as you learn basic fishing skills. Lakes provide the scene for fishing fun using the catch-and-release method. You are encouraged to bring your own pole and tackle if you wish but equipment is available for use as well.

Fully experience the great outdoors. Tent camp for two nights with us at Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo, WI. On Tuesday we leave Southdale YMCA for Devils Lake State Park. Once camp is set up, the adventures begin! Wednesday is spent at a water park in the WI Dells. We’ll explore the park and enjoy group games, hike and end with a blazing campfire and a hearty meal. Join us for this thrilling outdoor adventure!

LANESBORO BIKING AND CAVE TOUR Offered July 10 – 12 (3-day session)

This adventure begins at Mystery Cave State Park near Lanesboro, where we’ll set up camp. Then we go underground to an exciting guided cave tour at one of the nation’s most unique caves. We’ll spend the next day renting bikes and exploring the historic town of Lanesboro and the trails and parks along the Root River.

TROLLHAUGEN ZIP LINE & AERIAL ADVENTURE Offered July 17 – 19 and August 7 – 9 (3-day session)

This adventure will take you soaring! Beautiful Interstate Park is our campsite for one night. We’ll enjoy the park’s rolling, wooded hills and the banks of the St. Croix River, and spend a half-day at Trollhaugen Adventures soaring through the Aerial Tour Challenge Course. Then experience a night sleeping at YMCA Camp Icaghowan. We will canoe and participate in camp activities. Truly a memory-making getaway.

NORTH SHORE KAYAK & ADVENTURE PARK Offered June 19 – 21 and July 24 – 26 (3-day session)

Member Participants: $355/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $380/3-day session

The starting point for this North Shore adventure is the spectacular harbor city of Duluth. There are so many fun things to see and do there. We’ll spend two nights camping at Spirit Mountain Campground. Our first day adventures include the Spirit Mountain Adventure Park and exploring Gooseberry Falls. On Wednesday we will spend the day on a guided kayak tour to local islands. This is a trip you don’t want to miss!

BUS TRANSPORTATION INFORMATIONThe YMCA provides safe and reliable transportation each day for our campers to begin their adventure! Bus stop locations are available throughout the summer from the locations listed. Transportation is provided by YMCA-owned vans, leased vans and buses. All drivers have completed special training. All campers registered for Day Camp, Wee Backpackers or one of the Specialty Day Camps must select a bus stop unless enrolled in Before and After Care. Transportation is not available for Sports and Mini Sports.

SPORTS• A $50 non-refundable deposit is required per session. The deposit

ALL PROGRAMS• Confirmation will be sent via email after registration. You will be

• Changes to the original registration, including cancellation, must be made in writing by Monday, one week prior to the start of the session. Submit your changes or cancellations through the contact page of our website: ymcamn.org/contact_us. We encourage change notices to be submitted as soon as possible.
