    inverter systems for independent

    power supply

    2

    General

The requirement for power supplyreliability is growing, due to theincreasing application of informationand data carrier systems, text proces-

sing, automated production processesand complex data networks.

Static inverters are being installedincreasingly by supply users whorequire AC voltages unaffected byinterference on the mains e.g.

Irregularities due to loading of thepublic power supply by major users,peak-time use or by lightning strikescannot be avoided.

They result in:Mains voltage breaks, spikes andtransients. (Fig. 1)

Manufacture of the staticinverter production families

Single-Phase Inverter Series WPE Three-Phase Inverter Series WPD

    The regulation characteristics of this

range of inverters results in very smallvoltage deviations, even with loadchanges of one hundred percent.

Both series are manufactured usingtransistor technology and have anelectronic bypass (EUE) and a built-inservice bypass switch.

The function and warning LEDs are onthe front control panel, together with amimic diagram.

The inverters are designed for conti-nuous inverter operation as well as forstand-by operation.

Control and monitoring of the inverterand EUE functions is carried out via amicroprocessor.

    Function

InverterThe DC voltage is converted into AC inthe inverter using sine-wave optimi-sed pulse width regulation. Due to therelatively high switching frequencycompared to the basic frequency andthe optimised regulation of the pulsewidth a low distortion factor is achie-ved at low filtering expense. This againcontributes to good dynamic behaviourunder load changes.

In the event of mains interruption orfailure, the battery connected to theDC input is brought in automatically

and without interruption to supply cur-rent. If the battery becomes dischar-ged this is reported. If the batterydischarge limit is exeeded, the instal-lation automatically turns off and awarning is given shortly before thedischarged voltagelimit is reached.

Automatic change-over of the load tothe bypass mains or a suitable spareinstallation occurs if the supply fromthe inverter falls outside the presettolerances.

The EUE component of the installationfacilitates uninterrupted change-overto direct mains supply (bypass mains),keeping the specified tolerances. Thechange-over can be initiated manuallyor automatically by a control signal.

The P monitoring is autonomous andprevents incorrect operation of theinstallation and any illogical switchingfunctions of the EUE electronic bypass.

Thus, for example, an uninterruptedchange-over, whether automatic ormanual, is only possible when the vol-tage, frequency and phase conditionsof the inverter are synchronised withthe bypass mains. Mains frequencydeviations, which lie outside the presettolerances cause blocking of thechange-over, or if the inverter fails, achange-over with an interruption.

A change back can only occur to afunctioning inverter, and is in everycase uninterrupted even if the mainsshould fail on a test change-over.
