Industrial Policy 3

The Industrial Policy gives recommendations and guidelines of how to achive an increase in production, productivity and quality within the industrial sector. Furthermore, it defines industrial priorities based on externalities and the availability of resources within the country.

The Packaging Sector

Variety of agro-food products available with export potential; specifically cashew, dried fruit and fruit juices;

Export potential to SADC market; The ‘plastics’ production sector is relatively advanced

technically with a good product range; Plastics recycling companies in place; Some good quality printing of paper-based products; “Made in Mozambique” label; a good marketing

platform to build on.

There is no local production of paperboard cartons,

paper sacks or bags, metal closures and glass.

The Textiles & Apparel Sector

Due to the importance of this sector, the Government has

developed the Strategy for the Development of the textile

and apparel sector

Strategic Objectives:

Increase cotton production;

Establish a spinning and fabric forming industry;

Attract export orientated investment in the apparel sector;

Satisfy the national demand with “Made in Mozambique” products;

Promote the production of traditional textiles and apparel.

Satellite Projects

Pre-feasability studies have been completed on a

number of large industrial projects to be

developed in conjunction with the Moatize coal

mine. These projects will utilise some of the

output from the Moatize mine. The proposed

projects include the following:

1. Cement Plant with a previewed initial investment of US$17,637 Million in Tete/Moatize.

2. Coking Plant with a previewed initial investment of US$141,754 Million in Beira/Sofala.

3. Biodiesel Plant with a previewed initial investment of US$149 Million in Nacala/Nampula.

4. Charcoal with a previewed initial investment of US$39,2 Million in Honde/Manica.
