The title of the dissertation

This thesis gives a comprehensive overview on the history and state of the art of sandwich construction, sandwich cores, honeycomb cores and honeycomb production technologies. Sandwich construction is a method of construction combining three layers of material.

A core material layer and two outer layers while with low density core layers substantial weight reduction can be enabled. A honeycomb core as core material uses the ressources most e�cient.

Within this doctoral research new materials were developed for semi-structural and structural applications. This includes the material aspects in the honeycomb core production and the sandwich panel production as well as characterisation by mechanical testing, optimisation

and modelling of the mechanical properties. The modelling of the new honeycomb cores and the prediction of the mechanical propesupported the application development. The status of the industrial implementation and many applications in di�erent industries

and with di�erent sandwich material combinations are presented and discussed.
