18 year old, Dan was walking home from a Halloween par-

ty at his friends house, when he heard a thumping noise be-

hind him. THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. When Dan turned

around he saw it was a coffin behind him. Dan started walk-

ing quicker but the THUMPS were still right behind him. Soon

Dan was running, the coffin started running too. Now Dan was

running faster than he had ever ran in his life but the coffin

was still right behind him! “HELP!” Dan screamed! He ran into

his house and tried to slam the door but the coffin caught the

door and started following him up the steps THUMP, THUMP,

THUMP, THUMP, Dan ran into the bathroom and grabbed the

first thing he saw, cough drops, and threw them at the cof-

fin….and of course the coffin’ stopped.

A retired man who volunteers to entertain patients in nursing

homes and hospitals went to one local hospital in Brooklyn

and took his portable keyboard along. He told some jokes

and sang some funny songs at the patients’ bedsides. When

he finished he said, in farewell, “I hope you get better.” One

elderly gentleman replied, “I hope you get better, too.”

Day

Hi everybody, Seems like I just welcomed summer and just like that, it’s over. We sure had enough rain. NPR, “National Public Radio” were concerned about the amount of rainfall we have been getting. They stated that Harrisburg has received 16 inches this season, a record since they normally only

get 6 inches. The cause? You guessed it," Global warming," “Climate change” In July 1942, 34.5 inches of rain fell in Smethport Pa. in just 12 hours. Gotta be a record. Wonder where they placed the blame back then??? Enough about the rain. I will be taking you down memory lane at the party on November 14. Hope you can make it and have a great time. Until then, wishing you a happy and healthy autumn.

THE SUNSHINE SINGERS CHORUS

We are still looking for more singers to join the

“Sunshine Singers”, the Centers chorus. Most of our

songs are the old standards and we sing them in unison,

so you don’t have to read music, and you’ll never get a

second soprano part to sing by yourself, or an alto part

that has completely different words than the sopranos are

singing. The only qualifications are that you are a senior

(55+) and that you enjoy and have fun singing. Practices

and performances are on Wednesday Afternoons

(Usually) . This is your invitation and you can just show up

or call (215)538-8671 for more information.

See our schedule above.

We know a guy who was so dumb his teacher gave him

two sticks and he became a drummer but then lost one

and became a conductor.

“My memory is gone Mildred, so I changed my

password to “Incorrect.” That way when I log in with

the wrong password, the computer will tell me…

“Your password is incorrect.”

The Importance of What We Do

Being Part Of Our Community

1. We are still a collection site for the Food Pantry. At this time, pasta and sauces are needed. Please buy a second

something on sale and drop it off here. They also need canned and packaged goods that won’t spoil.

2. Eyeglasses are still being collected and given to the Lion’s Club.

3. Tabs from pop top cans (soda, tuna, cat food, etc.) are being collected for the Ronald McDonald House, which shelters

families of children who are seriously ill or injured. We give them to the Women’s Club who takes them to a McDonald’s

repository.

4. Both our choral group “The Sunshine Singers” and our band “The Impossibles” go to different nursing homes and

assisted living facilities to entertain those residents every month.

5. Please bring in any post-marked stamps to the front desk. We collect cancelled stamps, and they are given to

the Blind Association.

6. The V.A. Clinic in Allentown has a little coffee room available to patients while they wait for their appointments. They

need sugar, tea bags, artificial sweeteners and stirrers.

7. We are collecting pennies for Cancer Research. Please bring your pennies and loose change in to help.

8 We are sending gift boxes to our Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. We need more donations to fill our boxes.

9. We help support Quakertown’s Fourth Of July Fireworks Display with our Bingo-In-The-Park and selling Pulled

Pork Sandwiches at these 2 fundraising booths.

10. Our Volunteers distribute our newsletter throughout the Upper Bucks Area.

Find Out What’s Going On In Your Community . . . And Then Get Involved !

Development of our Mission Statement: The core principles that guide us are compassion, volunteerism, fellowship and

action. We exist to provide services and support, using fundraising to support our programs. We provide Information and

Resources and activities in such areas as Entertainment, Education, Nutrition, Health and Travel. Our customers are adults

55+ in the broad community of Upper Bucks County, as well as community business and groups that support our goals.

We also provide a clean, safe and healthy environment for all to enjoy.

“This project is funded, in part, under a contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and the County of Bucks.”

Without community service, we

would not have a strong quality of

life. It’s important to the person who

serves as well as the recipient. It’s the

way which we ourselves grow and

develop. . Volunteers Are The

Backbone Of Our Center ! . . . .

Thank you to all our Volunteers!

Couldn’t do it without each and

everyone of you!

Thank You!

Your financial support of the

operation of the Upper Bucks

Activity Center is very much

appreciated!

Safety And Efficiency In Our Kitchen

Why access to the kitchen has been frowned upon?

A commercial kitchen can be a dangerous place for slips and falls!

Thank you for your understanding

An elderly woman had just returned to her home from

an evening at church service when she was startled by

an intruder. As she caught the man in the act of robbing

her home of its valuables, she yelled, "STOP! ACTS

2:38!" (Repent and be baptized, in the name of the lord,

so that your sins may be forgiven.)

The burglar stopped in his tracks. The woman calmly

called the police and explained what she had done. As

the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the

burglar, "Why did you just stand there? All the old lady

did was yell scripture at you."

"SCRIPTURE?!" replied the burglar, "She said she had

an AXE and TWO 38's!

At the end of his tenth and final golf lesson, the elderly man asked the pro how he had performed.

"Well," replied the instructor, "you'll never be a pro, but you can get personal enjoyment out of the

game, and the exercise will do you good. Your main problem is that you are too close to the ball after

you swing."

We continuously collect items to box and send to our troops overseas.

Examples would be toothpaste and toothbrushes. Travel and hotel sized

items are nice. You can drop off your items at the center. If you need a

list of things, call (215) 536-3066 or come in for a visit.

Members We Have Lost

Our sympathy goes to our friends and their families

whose family members have passed away.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

Members Of The Upper Bucks Senior Center.

In the week before Thanksgiving Mary-Jo asked her class of 9

year-olds to write a paragraph entitled:

'What I am most thankful for on Thanksgiving Day'. All Joey

could write was: 'I am thankful that I'm not a turkey at Thanksgiving.'
