GENERAL INFO

Geographical situation: in the south-east of Romania, in the middle of Muntenia, including the superior and middle basin of the river with the same name and part of the Ialomita basin; Towns: PLOIESTI-capital of the county (with 253,000 inhabitants, between the valleys of Teleajenul and Prahova, at 60 km north of Bucharest); Azuga, Baicoi; Boldesti Scaieni; Breaza; Campina; Comarnic; Mizil; Plopeni; Sinaia; Slanic; Urlati; Valenii de Munte.

Prahova Valley (Romanian: Valea

Prahovei) is the valley where the

Prahova river makes its way between

the Bucegi and the Baiu Mountains, in

the Carpathian Mountains, Romania.

It is a tourist region, situated about

100 km north of the capital city of

Bucharest.

After failing to take part in the

hosting of the 2013 European

Youth festival, Prahova Valley

is considering making a bid

for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

AZUGA Azuga is a small resort town nestled

in the mountains of Prahova county in the Wallachian region of Romania.

Tourism

The town is an emerging ski resort that sees tremendous development in tourism infrastructure.

On Sorica slope enthousiasts of winter sports can ski over a length of 2100 meters (vertical drop 561 m). The slope is recommended for both beginners and experienced skiers.

In the summer, Azuga is a preferred destination for hikers, being a starting point for trips to various mountain destinations in Predeal, Busteni or Sinaia.

PREDEAL

Predeal (pronounced [preˈde�al]; German: Schanzpass; Hungarian: Predeál) is a town in Braşov County, Romania. Predeal, a mountain resort town, is the highest town in Romania.

The town of Predeal is a well-known tourist destination in Romania, especially in winter.

Predeal has five major ski runs, each with a difficulty grade. Most of them have snowmaking guns, and some are fitted with floodlights and ski lifts. The length of the pistes range between 790 metres (2,590 ft) (Clăbucet variantă) and 2,243 metres (7,359 ft) (Cocoșul).

Some of the town's tourist attractions include the 3 Brazi Chalet, The Susai Chalet and The Poiana Secuilor Chalet. In close proximity to Predeal are several tourist destinations, including the Peleş Castle, Râșnov Citadel, Bran Castle, The Old Town of Brașov, Biserica Neagră and the Seven Ladders Canyon.

SINAIA Nature preservation In the town of Sinaia and its surroundings

restrictions are in place regarding cutting down or picking up flora. The felling of trees is not allowed. It is forbidden to pick up any alpine plants. Severe punishment may be in store for those who gather these plants: the Mountain Peony (Rhododendron Kotsky), Edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum), and the Yellow Gentiana (Gentiana lutea). Tourist camping is only authorized in designated places, following necessary and compulsory protection standards.

The mountainous area in which Sinaia is located is in the Bucegi Natural Park region.

At the entrance to the Cumpătu district, one can find the “Sinaia alder-tree grove” botanical reservation placed under the protection of the Romanian Academy and the Bucharest Biology Institute. In the same district, there is also another ecological research station under the patronage of UNESCO – Jacques-Yves Cousteau, belonging to the University of Bucharest, which also includes a museum of Bucegi Mountains fauna in a laboratory for nature protection.
