Explore the power of the crowd

Page 3: IoT LAB

Exploring direct interactions with the

crowd (with smart phones) and enabling

the crowd to be at the core of the

research cycle. This would enable a

Motivation

research cycle. This would enable a

better alignment of the research with the

society and end-users needs and

requirements.

Aim

Economic Research

IoT Lab

To research the potential of crowdsourcing i.e. crowd participation in sensing and actuation

to integrate the crowd smart phones with existing FIRE testbed infrastructures or any general

statically deployed IoT resources in order to enable a wide range of multidisciplinary experiments

with more end-user interactions, flexibility, scalability, cost efficiency and societal added value.

Objectives - IoT Lab in a nutshell

Crowdsourcing

mechanisms and tools

• To enable testbeds to integrate and use third party resources (smart phones) and interact with the distributed users.

Virtualization

• of crowdsourcing and testbed components facilitating the integration and interaction with heterogeneous components, including physical, mobile and virtual ones.

Ubiquitous

Interconnection and

Cloudification

• of the testbeds resources to provide an on-line platform of Testbed as a Service (TBaaS).

Objectives cont’ - IoT Lab in a nutshell

End-user and societal

value

• researching potential crowdsourcing participants interests, drivers and barriers to adoption, in order to propose an optimized model for end-user adoption

and societal value creation.

“Crowdsourcing-driven

research”

• as a new model in which the research can be initiated, guided and assessed by the crowd.

Economic dimension of

crowdsourcing testbed

• by analyzing the potential markets and business models in order to optimize the exploitation, costs, profitability and economic sustainability of such testbeds.

Performing

multidisciplinary

experiments

• including end-user driven experiments through crowdsourcing, to assess the added value of such approach.

Platform Requirements

User profile management

• for both participants and investigators

• Security for AAA control

• Built-in reputation

Experiment

Configuration

• Detailed experiment description (resources, objectives, timeline , privacy)

Testbed Resources

Management

• interface that allows testbed managers to configure and make their resources available for experimentation

Privacy and EthicsCrowdsourcing and

Crowdsensing provisioning

• Capability of crowd and testbed resources to provide sensory and/or crowd knowledge data

Experiments

Management

• Browsing and evaluation of experiments

Privacy and Ethics

• PRIVACY BY DESIGN concept:

• users are requested minimal information

• a clear description of the required data (user and device)

Support for incentives

• for crowd and investigators incentive.
