In December of 1904, three men started with an idea. They wanted to break the mold of what was considered the conventional fraternity. This idea spread from three to seven, seven to eight, eight to eleven, and now Pi Kappa Phi has more than 100,000 faithful brothers worldwide dedicated to live the values of men of class. The Fall of 2011 brought Pi Kappa Phi to Quinnipiac University, and now we are more than 60 strong, all with one united state of mind: we will lead.

Pi Kapps Circle the Globe By: Connor Hadley
This past spring, two of our brothers embarked on an
incredible journey around the globe. Tyler Alway (’13) and Anmol
Mehta (’13) knew that they wanted to study abroad, but spending
an entire semester in one country wasn’t enough for them, so they
decided that Semester at Sea was the way to go.
“I packed up a large duffle bag, and two backpacks and
hopped on a boat to sail around the world for five months. After
visiting 15+ cities with stops on four continents, I circumnavigated
the globe in just 101 days. I got to see and experience some of the
most amazing sites and cultures, and this semester will forever
have an impact on me,” says Alway.

Both brothers are quick to say that this was the journey of a
lifetime, and that it has changed them for the better. While they missed
their time at Quinnipiac and with Pi Kappa Phi, their experiences on the
boat and in foreign countries are irreplaceable. Mehta puts it, “We did
everything from sleep on the Great Wall of China, ride elephants in
Burma, visit Buddhist temples in Japan, meet Desmond Tutu… I cannot
comprehend how that was a reality for me. I sailed to countries I only
dreamed of going and went through experiences I did not think were
possible.”
A Letter from the Archon
Pi Kapps Circle the Globe, cont’d.
Dear Brothers, Friends and Family, I would like to welcome all of you to the first edition of the Pi Kapp Ledger
for this upcoming fall 2013 semester. I am excited to have everyone back on
campus and for the term to get under way. We lost some key people to graduation
last semester, but with recruitment right around the corner Iota Lambda will have some new future leaders in no time!
For the first time ever Quinnipiac University has moved to a fall recruitment
set up, while this presents a new challenge for our chapter I am positive that we
will have a successful recruitment period. Our recruitment committee has been working very hard to ensure that everything goes according to planned and I have
no doubt that this will be the best semester in terms of recruitment that the Iota
Lambda chapter has ever seen.
With a couple of years under our belt the chapter is getting out the final kinks of being a newly chartered chapter of Pi Kappa Phi and organization at
Quinnipiac University. We have received some recognition from our national
headquarters, which is just fueling us to continue doing well and generate positive
attention from both our national organization and Quinnipiac University. By the Star & Lamp

A Letter from the Rose Queen It was such an honor to be chosen to be Pi Kappa Phi's
newest Rose Queen last semester. Over the past year Pi Kapp
has made it's mark here on campus and I am extremely
excited to see what this upcoming year has in store for us.
I’ve gotten to know each of the members over the past year
through various involvements on campus and I can honestly
say they are the greatest guys I know. Becoming Rose Queen
has opened many doors for me to get to know some of the
most genuine men on this campus. Since becoming part of
the chapter I have internalized the values that they hold
themselves to and instill those values in my daily life. These
men have provided me with the opportunity to help give back
to the Quinnipiac community in ways that wouldn't be
possible otherwise. Each and every one of them has pushed
me to be a better person by showing me, by example, how
valuable it can be to hold myself to the standards that led
their chapter to accomplish so many things in such a short
time. This organization has changed the life of every one of
its members, and as their newest rose queen I know the
chapter will impact me for the better.

Many men have stepped up and taken on responsibilities for the
betterment of our chapter as a whole. The Pi Kappa Phi Member of the Month is a distinguishing honor given to a brother who demonstrates proudly all of our
tenants of C.L.A.S.S.: character, leadership, achievement, scholarship, and
service.
We would like to recognize Erik Blakney as the recipient for the month of September. Erik has taken on a considerable amount of responsibility in our
Recruitment Committee, was just appointed our chapter’s Brotherhood Chair,
and has demonstrated significant time management and leadership skills. “This
really means a lot to me,” says Erik. “Recruitment is a very important part of Pi Kapp, and I want to be sure we are recruiting the best men we can for this
coming Beta class. I’m glad to know that Pi Kappa Phi is continuing to thrive.”
Congratulations, Erik.
Brother of the Month By: Anthony DePasquale
Welcome to the Pi Kapp Ledger! My name is Anthony DePasquale, and I am one of the Public Relations Chairs of our Iota Lambda chapter. I am originally from Concord, CA, and I am currently a junior here at Quinnipiac. On campus I am a new student orientation leader over the summer, and during the school year I also serve as a student ambassador for the office of undergraduate admissions. I am excited to be serving the chapter in this position and look forward to keeping you, our readers, up to date on the goings on in our chapter!
Meet the Editors
Thanks for reading the Pi Kapp Ledger! I am Connor Hadley, a junior Public Relations major, and I could not be more excited to be one of the newest PR Chairs of Pi Kappa Phi, Iota Lambda. At QU I am involved with the Orientation Leader program, as well as being on the Interfraternity Council Executive Board as the Director of Member Development and a student ambassador for the university. I think this is going to be a great year for Iota Lambda and I can’t wait to see all that we accomplish!
