What is Iowa Automotive Recyclers (IAR)? IAR is a non-profit trade association of businesses involved in the recovery and sale of green recy-cled parts from automobiles and those who support the automotive salvage and dismantling industry.
Strength in Numbers IAR membership means fellowship with other automotive recyclers by exchanging ideas and pro-moting good business practices. Through the thinking and ac-tion of its members, the Iowa Automotive Recyclers work to build the image of automotive recyclers. IAR enables mem-bers to get involved and accomplish collectively what none of us could do individually. Its strength lies in attracting members for the purpose of creating a pool of resources from which to draw ideas, energies, and finances.
Iowa Certified Automotive Recyclers Automotive (I-CARE) Program The Iowa Certified Automotive Recyclers Environmental Pro-gram is the industry standard of excellence that exemplified the Iowa Automotive Recyclers membership. The I-CARE Program is uniquely Iowan in that it includes all state and fed-eral regulation applicable to an Iowa automotive salvage facili-ty. The Iowa DNR staff praised the I-CARE program and the industry for being proactive in waste management and compli-ance. The goal is all Iowa Automotive Recycler members achieving and maintaining full compliance in safety, environmental and licensing regulations through the I-CARE certification program. I-CARE is an affiliate program of the national ARA Certified Auto Recyclers (CAR).

In Remembrance QUANDT
Helen Quandt, 92, of Carroll, died August 6, 2014 in Carroll. Born on June 13, 1922 in Clarin-da, Iowa. On November 14, 1939 she was united in marriage to Paul Quandt at Shenandoah, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1985. Since 1948 Paul and Helen owned and operated Quandt Garage which later became Quandt Auto Salvage where she was active in the
business operations until she moved to St. Anthony Nursing Home. She enjoyed flowers, bowling, swimming, and her dif-ferent coffee groups. Most of all Helen enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
AIKEY James A. Aikey, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, Jan. 31, in Waterloo. He was born Feb. 17, 1940, in Janesville. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School with the class of 1959. On Jan. 10, 1959, he married Anne Heichel in Nashua; she preceded him in death. He and his wife owned and operated Aikey Auto Salvage in Cedar Falls for 35 years. Jim en-joyed fishing, camping, boating, and gambling. He also enjoyed watching the girls play ball.

In Remembrance CHASE
Dorothy J. Chase, 83, of Cedar Rapids died January 6, 2015 after a long illness. Survivors include her hus-band of 65 years, Bruce, and a daughter Caroline (Gary) Wendel of Cedar Rapids. Dorothy was born on October 11, 1931 in Reinbeck. She married Bruce Chase on June 6, 1949. Dorothy was co-owner of Sunline Inc. with her husband and retired in 1999. Dorothy enjoyed reading, fishing, flying and
piloting her own plane. She especially enjoyed the time with her family at their home overlooking the Mississippi River.
WILKEN Vern Wilken, age 89 of Nashua died September 13, 2014 in Charles City. He was born November 18, 1924, on the Wilken family farm near Clarksville. On March 16, 1945, he married Juanita Bonnie Jordan. She preceded him in death in 1998. Shortly after marrying, he was inducted into the US Army and served for two years as a military police-man in Germany. In 1956, the couple moved to Nashua where they started Wilken and Sons auto sal-vage business. Vern loved his Cadillacs, camping, trav-eling and visiting with family and friends. He always had a story to tell.

In Remembrance HOGELAND
Lyle “Hogie” Hogeland, 92, a longtime Marshalltown business man passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Lyle Edward Hogeland was born on December 2, 1922, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Lyle attended school in the Mar-shalltown Community School District graduating with the class of 1941. He served our country honora-bly in the United States Ar-my from 1943 until 1945. Lyle had lived in Mar-shalltown his entire life and had owned and operated Hogeland Auto Plaza and worked alongside his son Lonnie. He enjoyed collect-ing antique cars, antique auto parts, which his family called hoarding, going to McDonald’s for breakfast, fishing, loved to listen and dance to polka music, buying scratch tickets and the ca-sino. Lyle will be remembered as fun loving, cigar smok-ing, never knew a stranger kinda guy.
