iPhone Issues on Call Set-up

Hi,

Anybody else here who have investigated call set-up issues with

iPhone like

1. iPhone automatically initiates a new call (new RANAP Initial UECM Service Service Request) after a failed call set-up that did notreach the RANAP Set-up Message? The user is not aware of theautomatic redial but instead experience long call set-up.

2. or iPhone repeats another RANAP CM Service Request even thefirst RANAP CM Service Request is not expired (T3230 of 3GPP TS24.008). the result of this is that the MSS/MSC reject the call set-up with RANAP Cause 34 (Service option temporarily out of order).

We have contacted Apple but no response so far.

Re: iPhone Issues on Call Set-up

hi guys,

this is a really good posts, does anyone have any knowledge ofNAS EMM/ESM cause codes failures related to smart phone devicesand why they have happened? I'm interested in finding out thetypical problems that users are experiencing in 4G networks thatspecifically relate to device issues. I understand that the NAScause codes related to Mobility management and Sessionmanagement are the protocols that generate this. any informationwould be good as I have nothing right now.

Re: iPhone Issues on Call Set-up

Hey find below the parameter description below,

Set Connection-Oriented Algorithm Switches(SETUCORRMALGOSWITCH)Function

Use this command to query the connection-oriented algorithmswitches of an RNC.Note

1. As a supplement, this command is used to change only thealgorithm switches involved. All switches provide multiple options.SELECT ALL indicates that all switches are enabled. CLEAR ALLindicates that all switches are disabled. GRAY ALL indicates thatthe status of all switches does not change.

2. When PC_INNER_LOOP_LMTED_PWR_INC_SWITCH orDRA_BE_RATE_DOWN_BF_HO_SWITCH is enabled, you are advisedto enable DRA_DCCC_SWITCH to optimize the effect of the relatedfunctions.

3. HO_MC_SIGNAL_SWITCH is used to control the signaling statusonly before service connection. The signaling status after servicerelease is not controlled by this switch.ParameterParameter ID Parameter Name Parameter DescriptionCfgSwitch Channel Configuration Strategy Switch

Meaning: Channel configuration strategy switch group.

1) CFG_DL_BLIND_DETECTION_SWITCH: When the switch is on, theDL blind transport format detection function is used for single SRBand AMR+SRB bearers. Note that the UE is only required to supportthe blind transport format stipulated in 3GPP 25.212 section 4.3.1.

Impact on Network Performance: NoneCmpSwitch Compatibility Switch

Meaning: Compatibility switch group.

1) CMP_IU_IMS_PROC_AS_NORMAL_PS_SWITCH: When the switchis on, the IMS signaling assigned by the CN undergoes compatibilityprocessing as an ordinary PS service. When the switch is not on,no special processing is performed.

2) CMP_IU_QOS_ASYMMETRY_IND_COMPAT_SWITCH: When the IuQoS Negotiation function is active and the switch is on, IE RABAsymmetry Indicator is Symmetric bidirectional, The uplink anddownlink RNC negotiation rate is asymmetric, RNC select the biggerrete as Iu QoS negotiation rate. When the switch is OFF, RNCselect the less rate as Iu QoS negotiation rate.

3) CMP_IU_SYSHOIN_CMP_IUUP_FIXTO1_SWITCH: When theswitch is on, the IUUP version can be rolled back to R99 whencomplete configurations are applied during inter-RAT handover.

4) CMP_IUR_H2D_FOR_LOWR5_NRNCCELL_SWITCH: When theswitch is on, H2D is performed before a neighboring RNC cell whoseversion is earlier than R5 is added to the active set; E2D isperformed before a neighboring RNC cell whose version is earlierthan R6 is added to the active set. If the DRNC is of a versionearlier than R5, DL services cannot be mapped on the HS-DSCH. Ifthe DRNC is of a version earlier than R6, DL services cannot bemapped on the HS-EDCH.

5) CMP_IUR_SHO_DIVCTRL_SWITCH: When the switch is on, thediversity combination over the Iur interface is configured on thebasis of that of the local RNC. When the switch is not on, thediversity combination over the Iur interface is configured on thebasis of services. The flag of diversity combination over the Iurinterface can be set to MUST (for BE services) or MAY (for otherservices).

6) CMP_UU_ADJACENT_FREQ_CM_SWITCH: when the switch is on,the RNC initiates the inter-frequency measurement withoutactivating the compressed mode if the following two conditions aremet: the UE supports the non-compressed inter-frequencymeasurement, the inter-frequency neighboring cells work in a samefrequency which is within 5 MHz higher or lower than the currentfrequency; when the switch is off, the RNC activates thecompressed mode before initiating the inter-frequencymeasurement.

7) CMP_UU_AMR_DRD_HHO_COMPAT_SWITCH: When the switch ison, When SRB is set up on DCH, and RNC decides to setup the AMRthrough DRD procedure, RNC will execute blind handover to thetarget cell, and then setup the AMR RBs on the target cell.

8) CMP_UU_AMR_SID_MUST_CFG_SWITCH: For narrowband AMR

Page 14: iPhone Issues on Call Set-up

services, when the switch is on, the SID frame is alwaysconfigured; when the switch is not on, the SID frame is configuredon the basis of CN assignment.

9) CMP_UU_FDPCH_COMPAT_SWITCH: When the switch is OFF, ifthe information element that indicates the F-DPCH capability of UEexists in the message "RRC_CONNECT_REQ" or"RRC_CONNECT_SETUP_CMP", the F-DPCH capability depends onthat indicator. In other case, it means UE does not support F-DPCH. When the switch is ON, if the information element thatindicates the F-DPCH capability of UE exists in the message"RRC_CONNECT_REQ" or "RRC_CONNECT_SETUP_CMP", the F-DPCHcapability depends on that indicator. If that information elementdoes not exist, UE supports F-DPCH when all the conditions meets:a) the version of UE is Release 6. b) UE supports HS-PDSCH.

10) CMP_UU_IGNORE_UE_RLC_CAP_SWITCH: When the switch ison, the RAB assignment request and the subsequent RB setupprocedure proceed if the RLC AM capabilities of the UE fail to meetthe minimum RLC TX/RX window buffer requirement of the RAB tobe setup. When the switch is not on, the RAB assignment requestis rejected.

11) CMP_UU_INTRA_FREQ_MC_BESTCELL_CIO_SWITCH: When thisswitch is on, the cell individual offset (CIO) of the best cell isalways set to 0 in the INTRA-FREQUENCY MEASUREMENT CONTROLmessages. Otherwise, the CIO information of the best cell is notcarried in the INTRA-FREQUENCY MEASUREMENT CONTROLmessages.

12) CMP_UU_IOS_CELL_SYNC_INFO_REPORT_SWITCH: When theswitch is on, the cell synchronization information traced by the IOSneed to be reported during the RRC measurement period.

13) CMP_UU_SERV_CELL_CHG_WITH_ASU_SWITCH: When theswitch is on, the active set update is in the same procedure as thechange of the serving cell. When the switch is not on, the servingcell is changed after the UE updates the active set and deliversreconfiguration of physical channels. This switch is applicable onlyto R6 or aboveUEs.

14) CMP_UU_SERV_CELL_CHG_WITH_RB_MOD_SWITCH: When theswitch is on, channel transition is in the same procedure as thechange of the serving cell. When the switch is not on, the servingcell is changed after the UE performs channel transition anddelivers reconfiguration of physical channels.

15) CMP_UU_VOIP_UP_PROC_AS_NORMAL_PS_SWITCH: By default, the switch is on. In this case, the Alternative E-bit is notconfigured for L2.

7) HO_INTER_RAT_PS_3G2G_CELLCHG_NACC_SWITCH: When theswitch is on, the NACC function is supported during the PS inter-RAT handover from the 3G network to the 2G network in the cellchange order process. When the switch is not on, the NACCfunction is not supported. When PS_3G2G_RELOCATION_SWITCH isON, this switch is useless. When the NACC function is supported, the UE skips the reading procedure as the SI/PSI of the target cellis provided after the UE accesses the 2G cell. Thus, the delay ofinter-cell handover is reduced.

8) HO_INTER_RAT_PS_3G2G_RELOCATION_SWITCH: When theswitch is on, the PS inter-RAT handover from the 3G network tothe 2G network is performed in the relocation process.
