IPS Empress® SystemFor nearly 20 years, the name IPS Empress has been associatedwith the highest level of esthetics in the reproduction of naturaltooth characteristics. With more than 37 million restorationsfabricated with IPS Empress to date, the system has gained areputation for producing long-lasting, natural-looking results andmaintaining high quality standards.

Over the years, the IPS Empress System has been further developedkeeping pace with the latest trends in cosmetic dentistry. As aresult enhancements have been made to the material’s esthetics,function and processing properties.

In 2004, the system was further expanded and optimized with theintroduction of IPS Empress Esthetic pressable ceramic. This wasfollowed by the release of IPS Empress CAD in 2006, creating anopportunity for esthetic restorations to be milled chairside usingCAD/CAM technology, and placed immediately.

IPS Empress Direct is the latest addition to the IPS Empress System.It provides dentists with the esthetics of a ceramic and theconvenience of a composite.

IPS Empress Direct

IPS Empress Direct is a universal nano-hybrid filling material fordirect esthetic restorative procedures. IPS Empress Direct offers ahigh-gloss polish and the lifelike opacity, fluorescence and opal-escence necessary to create true-to-nature, esthetic restorations.

Material

The new composite material for anterior and posterior restorationsfeatures excellent polishing properties, imparting a long-lastingnatural-looking lustre to restorations.

Given the material's low sensitivity to ambient and dental operatorylight, dentists have ample time to restore the natural anatomy andthe optical appearance of teeth, under ideal lighting and stress-freeworking conditions.

The high radiopacity allows teeth to be checked for secondarycaries with ease. Due to the smooth consistency ofIPS Empress Direct, the material can be precisely applied innatural-looking layers.

A large number of researchers and colour specialists contributedtheir knowledge and experience to the development of thecoordinated shade system of IPS Empress Direct. Their efforts haveproduced a selection of 32 different shades in 5 levels oftranslucency.

Application

Natural teeth are made of different types of hard tissue, whichexhibit different degrees of opacity: Dentin, for example, is clearlymore opaque than enamel.

The 32 different IPS Empress Direct materials allow you to cover awide range of anatomical conditions and variations. They aredivided into 13 Dentin shades, 16 Enamel shades and3 Translucent shades, which are characterized by different opticalproperties. The opaque Dentin shades are primarily designed forthe reconstruction of the dentin core and the mammelons. Theyare identified by dark blue markings. The semi-translucent Enamelshaded materials are especially designed for reconstructing theenamel layer. The Enamel shade range also includes very lightBleach shades, which can be used for e.g. the reconstruction ofbleached teeth. The Enamel materials have light blue markings.Additionally, Translucent shades are available. They are mainlyused for the incisal edges of restorations placed in youngerpatients or for characterizing restorations on the surface. Thenumbers in the names “Trans 20” and “Trans 30” stand for therespective degree of translucency in %. Trans 20, for example,features a degree of translucency of 20%. Moreover, Trans-Opalmaterial is available, which appears blue or orange, depending onthe incidence of light. The opalescent effect primarily found inadolescent patients can be reliably mimicked with this material.The Translucent shades have white markings.

As the IPS Empress Direct Enamel, Dentin and Translucentmaterials can be applied using various layering methods, theyprovide users with a level of creative freedom that matches theirworking techniques, requirements and experience.

IPS Empress Direct

IPS Empress Direct ist ein hochästhetisches Nanohybrid-Compositefür die direkte Füllungstherapie. Durch die natürlich wirkendeOpazität, die Fluoreszenz und Opaleszenz des auf Hochglanzpolierbaren Materials lassen sich naturgetreue, ästhetische Restau-rationen herstellen.

Das Material

Das neue Composite-Füllungsmaterial für Front- und Seitenzahnzeichnet sich durch eine besonders gute Polierbarkeit und langanhaltenden, natürlichen Glanz aus.

IPS Empress Direct ermöglicht präzises Arbeiten ohne Zeitdruck beioptimalen Lichtverhältnissen. Ihnen bleibt aufgrund der hohenUnempfindlichkeit gegenüber Umgebungs- und OP-Licht ausrei-chend Zeit, um Ihre Arbeit stressfrei herzustellen und auf dienatürliche Anatomie und die optische Erscheinung Ihrer Patienteneinzugehen.

Die hohe Röntgensichtbarkeit erleichtert die Kontrolle von Sekun-därkaries. Die geschmeidige Viskosität des Materials ermöglichtpräzises Arbeiten in natürlich wirkenden Schichten.

Die jahrelange Erfahrung und das fundierte Wissen von zahl-reichen Wissenschaftlern und Farbexperten flossen in die Entwick-lung des aufeinander abgestimmten Farbsystems von IPS EmpressDirect ein. Dabei entstand eine Palette von 32 verschiedenenFarben in 5 verschiedenen Transluzenzstufen.

Die Anwendung

Der natürliche Zahn ist aus verschiedenen Geweben aufgebaut,deren Schicht unterschiedliche Opazitäten aufweisen. So ist Dentinzum Beispiel deutlich opaker als Schmelz.

Damit Sie bei allen anatomischen Gegebenheiten und Variationenauf ein passendes Material zurückgreifen können, liegtIPS Empress Direct in einem Sortiment von insgesamt 32 Massenvor. Es stehen 13 Dentin-, 16 Schmelz- und 3 Transluzenz-Massenzur Verfügung, die sich durch ihre optischen Eigenschaften unter-scheiden. Die opaken Dentin-Farben sind vor allem für dieGestaltung von Dentinkern und Mamelons konzipiert. Sie sinddunkelblau gekennzeichnet. Für den Schmelz stehen die transpa-renteren Enamel-Farben zur Verfügung. Das Farbspektrum reichtdabei bis zu sehr hellen Bleach-Farben, die z. B. an gebleichtenZähnen einsetzbar sind. Die Enamel-Massen sind hellblau markiert.Des Weiteren gibt es noch die Transluzenz-Farben; diese findenvorwiegend im Schneidekantenbereich jüngerer Patienten oder fürEffekte bei Restaurationen ihren Einsatz. Bei der Trans 20 und derTrans 30 stehen die Nummern für die jeweilige Transluzenzstufein %. Die Trans 20 besitzt beispielsweise eine Transluzenzstufe von20 %. Daneben gibt es noch die Trans-Opal-Masse, die je nachLichteinfall blau oder orange erscheint. Den Opal-Effekt findetman oft bei jugendlichen Patienten; er kann ohne eine solcheMasse nicht naturgetreu nachgebildet werden. Die Transluzenz-Massen sind weiss markiert.
