EUGENICS IN AMERICASir Francis Galton coined the term eugenics, and the phrase “Nature versus Nurture” in his book Hereditary Genius, published in 1869.

LEWIS MADISON TERMANWas instrumental in the inclusion of IQ testing in the military; he developed the first mass IQ test which was used on 1.7 million soldiers during WW I. In public schools, he studied gifted, and feeble-minded children alike. To increase the efficiency of America’s growing public schools.

AMERICAN INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF IQ TESTING

Psychologyst Herbert Henry Goddard was the instramental in the establishment of IQ testing in the NJ school system.

Goddard worked in an isolationist Training School in NJ, called Vineland, but it was know by it’s residents as “Quaker Jail”.
