What is Debate;

Debating is a formal discussion on a particular matter in a public meeting,

in which opposing arguments are put forward

and which usually ends with a vote

Debate [dih-beyt], noun, verb, -bat·ed, -bat·ing

1. To consider something; deliberate

2. To engage in argument by discussing opposing points

3. To engage in a formal discussion or argument

4. A formal contest of argumentation in which two opposing teams defend and attack a given proposition

Seminars at the Theoharaki Foundation A weekly programme for students aged 8-18, designed by IQ2 to develop students’

communication and argumentation skills through activities and debates.

In the first three months since the programme’s launch, more than 250 students from state

schools have taken part in the seminars

Athens Debate Summer Camp 2013 Following the extremely successful summer camp in 2012, we are already organising a new

4-day summer camp for 2013, aimed at students aged 12-18 from all over Greece.

100% of participants in 2012 rated the programme as ‘Excellent”

Our coaches Our network consists of a pool of expert debate coaches, with experience in Greek and

international programmes, including the World Schools and World Universities Debating

Championships, and the Panhellenic Forensics Tournament.

The need Only 15 private schools in Greece have formal debate clubs for their students. Teaching in the

schools focuses on memorising information, without developing communication and critical

thinking skills.

clubs

and private colleges and universties

The need Skills such as communication, critical thinking, negotiation skills, and other transferable skills

that can be developed through debating, are vital to the success of young professionals,

especially in a highly competitive job market

The approach A programme designed to develop these skills through seminars, workshops, and resources

The programme Seminars in partnership with organisations include the Institute of Communication and the

British Council, developed to meet the needs of each group
