IQAC Composition

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Mar Thoma College, Chungathara

consists of the following members.

IQAC ACTIVITIES

2014-2015

Academic Calendar for the year 2014-15 was finalized after incorporating the

various curricular and co – curricular activities

Orientation class was arranged for first semester UG students. Prof. Abraham

P Mathew (Principal) addressed the students and Dr. Raina Thomas (IQAC

Coordinator) explained about the Choice Based Credit Semester System.

Walk with Scholar & Student Support Programme was started in the college.

Sri. Anwar Shafi. C and Sanoj K. T. were appointed as the Coordinators of the

Programmme.

As per the direction of the University of Calicut, one-woman student is

identified for Sadguna Award from the College and the name was forwarded

to the University.

Two centralised internal examinations were held during the academic year.

A Research Advisory committee was constituted in the College for monitoring

the research activities.

The Proposals for 4 National seminars prepared by the departments were

and forwarded to UGC.

Co- ordination of P.T.A. Activities in consultation with the PTA Committee.

5 students selected for Inspire scholarship.

Free Noon meal programme was introduced in the College for needy students.

A Human value development programme was held on 2nd December 2014 for

the Faculty members. The Key Topic of the seminar was “Destiny Changers

and Legacy Makers”. Resource Person: Rev. Joe Joseph Kuruvilla

2015-2016

Arranged an Orientation class to First semester students.

IQAC proposal for solar Smart and Grid connect project was presented in the

Governing Council and approved.

Took initiative in providing drinking water supply system with support of

Parent Teacher Association.

One Day Seminar on “Bench Marks of Quality Teaching “

Resource Person: Dr. Jaiker Chellaraj

Invited applications for Mahindra scholarships and Aspire scholarships from

the students.

RUSA proposal was discussed in the IQAC meeting and decided the priorities

for the implementation of the Project.

One Day Administrative training Programme was arranged to the

Administrative staff in the area “E Grants and Scholarships” on 16.5.2015.

Sri P Krishna

Kumar served as the resource person.

Divided the whole faculty members into sever Criteria Committees on the

basis of the NAAC Criteria.

The activities of WWS & SSP were monitored.

Sri Sanoj K.T. is appointed as the Nodal officer of various Scholarships.

Attendance Monitoring system was installed in the college and decided to

implement to the whole departments.

Internal Examinations and Open House meeting were conducted for each

semester.

Ensured the periodic maintenance of the building in consultation with the

management.

An external Academic audit was conducted in the College. Dr. Rajan Varghese

and Dr. George Varghese were served as the external experts. The IQAC

meeting reviewed the observations off the Audit and decided to take

appropriate measures to overcome the shortcomings.

20 Students were selected for the Mahindra scholarship and 5 students were

selected for Inspire scholarship.

House Construction Project has been completed.

UGC Sponsored 2 days National Seminar was conducted by Post Graduate

Department of Economics in the Topic Women Empowerment- Issues

and Challenges. Date 19, 20th November 2015. The Seminar was

inaugurated by Smt. K K Rosakutty and 150 delegates participated in the

seminar

UGC Sponsored 2 days National Seminar was conducted by PG Dept. of

Commerce Topic of the Seminar: “Prospects of Service Industry in India”

Date: 1 and 2nd December 2015. Inauguration: Dr. V K Vijayakumar. Total

170 delegates participated in the seminar.

The Language Departments conducted another UGC Sponsored two days

National Seminar in the Topic - Research Methodology and Effective

Thesis writing in Humanities and Social Science. 100 delegates

participated in the seminar and it was inaugurated by Dr. K. K. N. Kurup

(Former Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut).

IQAC has arranged a One Day Training session to the Administrative Staff on

20-2-2016 in the Topic “SPARK”. All the Administrative staff members

participated in the training.

2016 – 2017

Academic Calendar for the year was finalised after incorporating the

curricular and co – curricular activities.

IQAC has taken initiative for the Appointment of guest faculty in the college as

per the government norms from the time of the beginning of first semester

classes.

Supported the Post Graduate Department of Commerce in the documentation

work regarding the beginning of a Research centre in Commerce.

Prof Dolly Mathew Memorial Lecture series was started in the College. The

topic of first Lecture was Education – An Odyssey to Liberation. Key Note

Address was made by Prof: Samuel Joseph (Former Principal).

IQAC reviewed the office automation system in the College and decided to

modify the same.

Purchased books to the college library by utilising management and P.D.

Funds.

Installed complaint boxes in the college.

IQAC monitored the Department level activities and reviewed the

documentation process.

Human value Development programme for the faculty members were

conducted in the College. Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Theethos Episcopa,

Manager, Mar Thoma College, Chungathara delivered the key note address.

Felicitation meeting was arranged to congratulate Adv. M Swaraj MLA, who is

the one of the prominent alumni of the College

Two faculty members were deputed for FIP programme and qualified

substitutes were appointed in the college.

Evaluated the peer teaching and remedial coaching system in the college.

Monitored the centralised internal exam and PTA meeting held at the

departments.

IQAC recommended for the Subscription of more e journals and magazines in

the College library.

IQAC ensured the periodic maintenance of the college building in consultation

with the management.

A One Day Workshop was held on 13.1. 2017 in the topic Faculty

Empowerment under the initiative of Students Support Programme and

faculty from various colleges participated the session. Dr. T O Paulose served

as the resource person.

Easow Mar Timotheos Memorial Lecture series was held on 13-3-2017.

Dr. Babu Paul IAS made the Key note address in the Topic: “Indian

Secularism “.

2017-2018

Academic calendar of the college for year 2017-2018 was discussed and

finalized in the IQAC meeting.

Orientation class to the first semester UG students was held on 20.8.2017

Inauguration of the first Research centre in the P G Department of Commerce

was inaugurated on 15-06-2017 by Rt. Rev Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma

Metropolitan.

Dedication of the solar smart project with 15 KV in the college was also held.

One Certificate Course in the topic YOGA was started in the College.

The Doctoral Committee was constituted in the as per the instruction of the

University.

10 Research scholars were joined in the Research Department of commerce

under the 2 guides.

IQAC of Mar Thoma College has conducted a One Day National Seminar on

“Quality Indicator Frame Work – Revised NAAC Accreditation Process

“. The training session was handled by Dr. Varghese Vaidhyan (NAAC

Peer Team member) on 26-10 -2017.

Purchased 10 computers for the use in the Departments and computer lab.

NSS units of the college has identified Kotteppadam colony as their adopted

village.

As part of the infrastructural augmentation, the IQAC has made a proposal

for the construction of a new floor in the science block.

IQAC has discussed about the need for Website up gradation and formed a

committee for the face-lifting of the college website.

Application for the UNNATH BHARATH ABHIYAN project was monitored by

the IQAC and forwarded to the government. The proposal was accepted and

our College was selected as a nodal centre of UBA.

Easow Mar Timotheos Memorial Lecture was arranged on 29. 1. 2018

at the Audio Visual Hall. Dr. Usha Titus IAS has delivered a lecture in the

Topic “Nurturing Excellence in Education”

The IQAC has recommended for the implement the teacher’s diary in the

college for recording the academic activities of the faculty.

On the basis of the recommendation of the Academic Audit more ICT

facilities are installed in the class rooms.

Promoted the students to participate Swachh Bharat Summer Internship

programme. 18 students participated in the Internship Programme.

“Sahapadikoru snehaveedu” housing project completed and handed over to

the beneficiary.

Recommended to subscribe more online journals to the library.

The mentoring system was implemented in the college. The Whole students

of the College are divided among the fulltime teachers and proper registers

were issued to the faculty.

Mathew Dolly memorial lecture held on: 21- 8 – 2017 at the

Audio Visual Hall. Dr. P K Babu, Principal, MES College, Mampad

has delivered a talk in the Topic Literature matters More Today

The proposal for starting a naval unit of NCC in our college was forwarded

to NCC headquarters at Calicut.

AQAR for the year 2017-18 submitted to the NAAC.

The proposal for the construction of a toilet block was submitted to PTA and

the plan was finalised.

Feedback from students were collected and analysed.

United Board Peer Team has conducted an Academic audit in the

College by visiting all the departments and verifying the

documentation process. Dr. M. Marcus D Boominathan and Dr. M.

Jezer Jebanesan were the team members and on the basis of their

finding proper remedial measures were undertaken. National Science Day Science Day was Celebrated on 21-2-2018 at the

College and Dr. Papputty has delivered a lecture.

One Day Seminar on “Academic and Administrative Audit” was arranged

for the faculty members on 22.1.2018 and Dr Jezer Jabanesan was the resource

person

2018-2109

Academic plan for the year 2018-2019was finalised

The proposal for the modification of the College Library was accepted by the

management and renovation process completed. Thorough upliftment of

the library with software up gradation with KOHA software installation.

The data regarding the AISHE survey and NIRF was submitted.

For improving the academic level of the students, 8 certificate courses

(including 4 VET programmes) were started as an IQAC initiative

An academic Audit was arranged by the College to verify the documentation

process by the Departments. Rev. Mathai Joseph (Bursar), Dr. Raina Thomas

(Principal) and Dr. Rajeev Thomas (IQAC Coordinator) visited all the

Departments and reviewed the Documentation process.

On the basis of the overall review regarding the shortage of Toilet facilities to

the students, IQAC put forward a suggestion to the PTA for the construction of

toilet block. The Parents Teachers Association has initiated the construction

and completed the four storied toilet block

For improving the use of ICT enabled teaching 31 classes were ICT enabled.

On the basis of the IQAC concern for ensuring uninterrupted power supply in

the college, a generator with 62.5 KVa was installed in the college.

An external Academic audit was held on 5th and 6th February 2019 by the Mar

Thoma Higher Education Commission and the report was reviewed by the

IQAC and the College authorities.

One-day Seminar on “Quality Initiatives for Academic Excellence” was

arranged by the IQAC of Mar Thoma College. It was held on 21.7.2018 and

Dr. Suby Baby served as the resource person.

As part of the green protocol maintenance the Green Auditing process was

completed in the College.

NSS Housing project was handed over to the beneficiary.

Twenty students of our college are recommended for the Swachh Bharat

Summer Internship Programme 2018. Certificates were issued to the

Students.

Mathews Dolly Memorial Lecture Series for the current year was held on 10-

8-2018. The Topic of the Lecture series was Understanding Feminism.

Famous literary critic Person Dr M D Radhika made the key note address.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Project of our college adopted 5 colonies of

Chungathara Panchayat. Students conducted detailed survey in the colonies.

The IQAC has conducted a One Day Seminar on “Teaching and Learning Using

Online Resources” on 17-8-2018 Dr. SabuKutty M G delivered the lecture.

One Day Training Programme on “UGC Pay Revision and Placement

Procedures “was arranged by the IQAC. The programme was held on

3.11.2018 and Dr. K P Vinod Kumar served as the Resource Person

The Network resource centre of the College was renovated by adding more

computers.

On the basis of the recommendation based on the feedback from students the

IQAC suggested for the construction of Two wheeler parking for students. The

project was completed with the support of the management.

Four M Com students in the 2015-17 batch secured ranks in their

examinations. These students were felicitated by the College Community.

Reviewed the progress in the certificate courses offered by the departments.

Installed new software in the language lab for better utilisation of the

resources.

The College web site was thoroughly face lifted and modified.

Easow Mar Timotheos memorial lecture on 29-10-2018 by Justice Cyriac

Joseph in the Topic: “Role of Religion in Contemporary India”

Formed Core Committee for the overall compiling and finalization of the Self

Study Report.

The IQAC has arranged a One Day Staff Training Programme on

“Understanding Kerala Service Rules” on 28-7-2018 and Sri Najeeb P S

served as the resource person

The IQAC has arranged a One Day Seminar on “Best Practices in Higher

Education “on Date: 5- 2-2019. Dr. Dhanya K served as the resource person.

The Department of Mathematics has conducted a Maths Fest in connection

with the National Mathematics Day Celebration on: 4 – 1- 2019.

IQAC Prepared the Academic Strategic Plan for the period 2019 – 2022

The IQAC prepared the Self Study report and submitted to the NAAC.
