Infrared Remote control was developed in late 1970’s
It uses infrared light and photo receptors and it sendsdigitally-coded pulses of infrared radiation to controlfunctions such as power, volume, temperature and manymore.
It uses different light frequencies for different functions.
How they work???
Light is sent out by remote control and is received by phototransistor which is connected with Microcontroller.
They receive signals and transmit signals to device via radio wave.
5V regulator LM7805
Infrared sensor (TSOP1738)
Microcontroller AT89S52
PIC12F675

LM7805
It is a regulated power supply IC
TSOP173
TSOP module is used for amplifying the
coded pulses from the IR transmitter
PIC12F675
It has program inbuilt to decode
TV remote signals
EEPROM 24C16
It’s stored memory is non-volatile
Microcontroller AT89S52
8K Bytes of In-System
Reprogrammable Flash

256 x 8-bit Internal RAM
32 Programmable I/O Lines
Two 16-bit Timer/Counters
Low-power Idle and Power-
down Modes
TRIAC Driver Dimmer IC
TRIAC BTA12 LCD
Easy to interface with microcontroller
and used in 4 bit mode
MOC3021 is optically isolated
TRIAC driver device
Dimmer IC is also a programmed
microcontroller
TRIAC is a switching device
Circuit Description
The remote we use, sends a train of bits (0’s and 1’s) of some fixedlength modulated with a 38 KHz infrared signal
The demodulated signal from TSOP sensor is fed to pin no. 2 of ICPIC12F675
The decoded signal from PIC 12F675 is fed to pin no. 10 (port 3.0)RXD (serial input port) of AT89S52
Now microcontroller have a simple program that turns ON switchif OFF and vice-versa
TRIAC and opto-isolators are used for switching of the devices
EEPROM is used to write the current status on LCD
Flow chart of program
Application and Advantage
For Disabled person
Any School and Colleges
In Shops
For a patient
This system reduces human efforts and makes life a bit easy
Using this system one can also set time
Conclusion
This project gives an idea about working of a sensor and
Decoder circuitry.
This project can be used anywhere either at home or offices
Future Work
Due to use of Microcontroller the work presented in this project
can further be extended for web interfaced control application
using Ethernet module like ENC28J60, RTL8019 etc.
