Its uniquepolitical system, based on the1979 constitution, combines elements of a parliamentary democracywith a religious theocracy run by the country's clergy, wherein theSupreme Leaderwields significant influence. A multicultural nation comprising numerous ethnic and linguistic groups, most inhabitants areShi'ites, theIranianrialis its currency, andPersianis the official language

During thesecond millennium BC,Proto-Iranianclans arrived in Iran from theEurasian steppes,challenging the native settlers of the country.Asthese clansscattering into the wider area ofGreater Iranand after, the bordering of modern Iran were controlled by thePersian,Parthian, andMedianclans.

Iran's wildlifeis made of several animal kind including bears, gazelles, wild pigs, wolves, jackals, panthers,Eurasian Lynx, and foxes. indoor animals include, sheep, goats, cattle, horses, water buffalo, donkeys, and camels. The pheasant, partridge, stork, eagles and falcon are also native to Iran.One of the most famous members of Iranian wildlife is the critically endangeredAsiatic cheetah, also known as the Iranian Cheetah, whose numbers were greatly reduced after the Iranian Revolution. Today there are ongoing efforts to increase its population and introduce it back in India. Iran had lost all itsAsiatic Lionand the now extinctCaspian Tigersby the earlier part of the 20th century.
