Income Support

• Student Outcomes Survey of 2002 RMIT TAFE

graduates showed that 13.1% of 15-19 yo

respondents received Austudy.• This compares to 27.2% of surveyed graduates

aged 20-24 for the same group. • Other income sources include government

pensions or benefits, apprenticeship/traineeships,

parents/spouse, paid work.

Some Issues for TAFE• Unmet demand for higher education displaces some

traditional TAFE applicants • Growth in VET 2003-2010 projected to be slower

than in previous decade (Victorian estimate 1.7% per annum)  

• Increasing push for apprenticeships and traineeships from both State and Federal governments

• Alignment of delivery to areas of government priority

• In 2003 RMIT enrolled 14,774 onshore international students: 3063 in TAFE, 11,711 in Higher Ed

• 2002-2003 proportion of TAFE international dropped by 3%

• Over same period, proportion of Higher Ed international grew by 3%
