TRANSATLANTICCONNECTIONSA Drew University Conference in Ireland

Page 2: Ireland Conference

Drew University, located in Madison, N.J., in association with the Institute of Study Abroad Ireland, welcomes you to the

Transatlantic Connections Conference. We are delighted to gather together scholars, students, friends and neighbors to explore, investigate and

celebrate the ways in which Ireland and the United States are connected—in history, literature and all aspects of contemporary culture.

We are especially pleased that we will have an opportunity for dialogue between American,Irish-American and Irish enthusiasts of the ties that bind us together and, more importantly, perhaps, to address the ways in which we can enhance our relationships to the bettermentof both communities.

It is of great significance that this conference is to be held in Donegal. Over the years, DrewUniversity has established firm and fond connections with the northwest of Ireland, and werecognize it as an area of immensely significant cultural heritage. From Yeats Country to Derry, and from the Glens of Leitrim to the Hills of Donegal, we know there are thousandsupon thousands of stories connecting us to the suburbs of New York and New Jersey, Appalachia, Chicago, California and all around the United States of America. Sharing our experiences allows all of us to respect and appreciate where we came from, where we went to and where we are today.

We thank those that have made the journey from the United States, and those who have come from all around Ireland, to share in this conclave of culture. We are eager to share ourstories, our shared histories and, of course, the craic.
