ARCHITECTURAL CONSERVATION AWARD &

ORIGINAL DRAWING AWARDThe Irish Georgian Society’s Architectural Conservation Award and Original Drawing Award are to encourage excellence in the area of conservation and to celebrate those conservation professionals and practitioners responsible for projects of merit.

There will be 2 categories of Awards as follows: Category 1

Category 2

Award for a Conservation Project by architects in Ireland, building surveyors, contractors, engineers and other professionals involved in the conservation of historic buildings on the island of Ireland. The term ‘Conservation’ is interpreted as per the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland definition to include works of preservation, restoration, adaptation and maintenance of buildings and sites.

Award for an original architectural (non CAD) drawing relating to an historic building/structure, in Ireland.

Winners and Highly Commended awards may be recommended in both categories.

Terms & Conditions.

The Judges reserve the right to make or not make any award. The Judges’ decision will be final in all matters including validating or otherwise any application.

An entry fee of €100 is required to participate in Category 1. There is no entry fee required for Category 2.

In Category 1 works must have been completed between January 2017 and March 2019; must be located in Ireland; and m u s t have been carried out by architects in Ireland or Irish architectural firms, building surveyors or other appropriately qualified professionals. Incomplete projects will not qualify.

In Category 2 the original drawing (non-CAD) must have been executed in the last five years.

The Award will be in the form of a Parchment, which will be presented to the Client and professional team at a ceremony in autumn 2019.

An entry will imply the granting of permission to publish all materials and particulars of the project free of copyright restrictions. The winning project will be presented in the Irish Georgian Society Newsletter and promotional material.

Access to submitted projects by the Judging Panel must be arranged by the Applicant for the final shortlist of selected projects.

Confirmation that application/presentation boards will be collected from IGS offices the City Assembly House,58 South William Street, Dublin 2. Alternatively confirmation that return of application/presentation boards will not be required. Entries not collected within one month after the award ceremony will not be the responsibility of the Irish Georgian Society.

Application Deadline is 12 noon on the 26th April 2019 to the Irish Georgian Society offices at the City Assembly House, 58 South William Street, Dublin 2, marked for the attention of Livia Hurley.

Conservation Award

Application Form Category 1

Application form must be fully completed

Application must be accompanied by drawings of plans, sections & elevations sufficient to explain the project plus good quality colour photographs at 300 dpi images of the project before, during & after conservation on not more than two A1 presentation boards. Failure to present images of the ‘before’ condition of the project will deem the submission invalid.

Drawings & photographs on a CD must be submitted with the project title & documentation for use in promotion of the award together with the name of the architect and client.

b.Method Statement of the conservation works.

This should be prepared by the contractors/craftspersons/conservation professionals involved in the project and should provide clear details of the works and how they were carried out. Works should adhere to the conservation principles outlined in the Architectural Heritage Protection Guidelines for Planning Authorities, Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

Application must be accompanied by an original (non CAD) drawing relating to an historic building or structure.

A CD for use in promotion of the award must be submitted. This should include good quality colour photographs at 300 dpi images of the drawing, the building name together with the name of the owner and architect.

Drawings submitted for an Irish Georgian Society Original Drawing Award must be available for exhibition during the Award Ceremony in the Autumn of 2019 (date to be confirmed). Drawings must be original and not copies of the original.
