THE 2.4M (8ft) WINDMILL GEAR BOX
The gearbox of the Iron Man Windmill changes the rotating energy captured by the wind wheel into a vertical reciprocating motion that causes the pump to lift water. The entire process is very efficient - much more so than converting wind power to mechanical energy to operate a generator then using the electricity generated to operate an electric pump.
The gearbox is strong and dependable, requiring little more than a yearly change of readily available 10W hydraulic oil.
Iron Man Windmills use traditional Babbitt bearings throughout. Babbitt bearings have been in use in all successful windmills for more than 150 years. It is a well known fact that no other bearing used in a windmill lasts as long or turns as freely as proper bearings made from Babbitt. The making of proper Babbitt bearings is a fine art, still practiced daily by skilled professionals at Iron Man Windmill.
STEEL SHAFTING
Used in Iron Man Windmills could be made from common mild steel, as used by other windmill manufacturers. Parts made from such steel does not wear well, survive storms that wreck buildings or provide the strength a windmill built to last a lifetime requires. All shafting used in Iron Man Windmills is made from heat treated SAE 1045 high strength alloy – the same steel used to make heavy truck axels. It’s the only way to make a windmill able last a lifetime.

THE 2.4M WINDMILL TOWER
The Iron Man Windmill tower is strong enough to survive storms that wreck buildings. Simple and easy to set up. They can be installed in one to two days depending on the experience of the installer. All parts are light enough that the entire windmill can be setup without requiring a crane or other lifting equipment. Common hand tools, a rope and wood planks are all that is required to complete installation.
All fasteners are hot galvanized forged alloy steel. All tower parts are hot dip galvanized to provide a lifetime of service, free from problems caused by rusting.

Get their water from two 2.4M Iron Man Windmills on 12M towers at a large, remote ranch in Kazakhstan. Pumping elevation is 10M. Due to heavy pumping load and severe storms in the region, it was decided to use taller towers than usual.

Tower Height is important! How it affects performance.
Windmills installed on towers of the proper height will be exposed directly to the strongest available winds and pump the most water. Also, windmills on taller towers usually are exposed to direct winds, free of turbulence and gusts that can negatively affect performance. 2.4M dia. windmills should have the wind wheel located at least 3M above any obstructions within a 120M radius. Smooth, direct winds will allow the windmill to pump more water and not be subject to the increased loads imposed by gusts and turbulence. Windmills located in areas subjected to storm winds, should have the wind wheel located high enough to avoid damage caused by blowing debris, building materials, trees, etc. blowing in the wind.
On the other hand, if the region where a windmill is to be located is flat and devoid of any obstacles, a shorter tower is advantageous as they can be installed more easily and cost less. The 20ft (6.0M) diameter Iron Man Windmill, above, provides water for a large irrigation reservoir in Southern Texas, USA. Pump is 0.8M in diameter and works with a 0.5M stroke. In normal winds it runs 15 strokes per minute pumping 66 gallons per stroke or 990 gallons per minute. Projects like this require a company with years of experience. Pumping elevation is 2M
