*If it's not adhering, lay down the clear sheet and add upto half of the time required in the instructions again. Forexample, on a 30-second press, you could add up toanother 15 seconds, if necessary. Too much heat can causewrinkling, so be careful with timing.

SOLVING COMMON PROBLEMS

Use Heat Tape to prevent the design from shifting outof place.Use an EasyPress mat to make sure your surface is flatand even.

If the decal moves, it can cause wrinkles.

Lint roll or dust your item for best results.Pre-press your item before applying the decal toremove moisture, wrinkles, & pre-shrink.

Wrinkles can happen if the item isn't pre-pressed.

MOVEMENT

If using an iron, use the cotton setting & considerusing a teflon sheet or parchment paper.Avoid placing more pressure than required.

How long was the decal heated for? Check outCricut's Heat Guide to get the time, temp., & pressuresettings.

PREPARATION

MY DESIGN IS WRINKLY

TOO MUCH HEAT/PRESSURE

*For multiple layers, only heat bottom layers for a fewseconds with firm pressure and peel. On the final layer,

press the whole design for the full time.

Page 13: IRON-ON (HTV) GUIDE! THE COMPLETE€¦ · THE. COMPLETE. IRON-ON (HTV) GUIDE! THE THRIFTY CHICA'S. . H i! I ' m A s hl ey , Th e Th ri fty Chica! M y g o a l is to he lp y o u ha

If you're using an iron, the temperature has morevariation across the plate. Use the cotton settingwith no steam. Use butcher or parchment paper tokeep the heating even.If you're using an Easy Press or a Heat Press, makesure that you're following the right timing and temp.

Make sure you're using Cricut's Heat Guide for the correct settings for your vinyl and material. I rarelyhave to adjust my project if I follow it!

Let a warm peel cool down to a slightly warmtemperature rather than hot. A cool peel is best when it has cooled completely.

Each material & vinyl require their own setting.Visit Cricut's Heat Guide for the exact settings to use andwhen to peel.

Pre-wash and dry your shirt or item to removechemicals from manufacture & to avoid shrinkage.Use a lint roller to remove anything that wouldinterfere with the iron-on adhering.Use a flat and firm surface about waist height. Use a firm towel or EasyPress Mat. Get a sheet of parchment or butcher paper handy.Check the Cricut Heat Guide for temperature, time, and pressure.

Follow these tips for best results:

Keep your pressure consistentMore pressure isn't always better. Make sure you're using a stable surface.Use a firm towel or mat under your project.

Each material & vinyl require their own setting. TheCricut Heat Guide will suggest a recommendation forpressure. Here are some tips:

LIGHT, MEDIUM, OR FIRM

Use a light source such as a CricutBrightpad behind your vinyl.Use either natural light or a focused lightbehind you to see the lines.

My biggest tip is light and more light! You can approach this in two ways:

I really love this for picking updifficult spots to weed easily.I generally use the straight tipfor most projects, but it's niceto have so many options!

HOW TO APPLY LAYERSBUILD YOUR CREATIVITY!

SELECT A DESIGN WITH LAYERS

www.TheThriftyChica.com 2021 The Thrifty Chica

If you look at the "Layers" panel on the rightside, you can see how many layers of iron-onvinyl are required. For this example, there are 3different colors chosen.

Make sure that you have enough of each colorand that they are appropriate types of iron-onfor each layer. See the list of which vinyl isbest suited for top layer only.

Page 17: IRON-ON (HTV) GUIDE! THE COMPLETE€¦ · THE. COMPLETE. IRON-ON (HTV) GUIDE! THE THRIFTY CHICA'S. . H i! I ' m A s hl ey , Th e Th ri fty Chica! M y g o a l is to he lp y o u ha

DECIDE HOW TO LAYER

For this example, each layer is slightly smallerthan the previous layer. You can generally layeraccording to which layers are on the bottom andtheir order on the screen. You can always click "Ungroup" at the top rightcorner on a computer or "Edit" and "Ungroup" on amobile device to look through the layers.

You would apply the black layer, then the pinklayer, and then the white layer as the final layer.

Page 18: IRON-ON (HTV) GUIDE! THE COMPLETE€¦ · THE. COMPLETE. IRON-ON (HTV) GUIDE! THE THRIFTY CHICA'S. . H i! I ' m A s hl ey , Th e Th ri fty Chica! M y g o a l is to he lp y o u ha

www.TheThriftyChica.com 2021 The Thrifty Chica

This example shows 7 layers. If you were layeringit with iron-on, you would have more difficultyachieving the best results. In this case, I wouldrecommend using the "Flatten" tool to create asingle layer that can be printed onto vinyl.

You can use an inkjet printer and use printableiron-on vinyl. Print out your design onto theprintable iron-on, then use your Cricut to cut theoutline of the printable iron-on out.

HOW TO MAKE OVERSIZED DECALSMAKE IT THE PERFECT SIZE FOR YOUR DIY!

www.TheThriftyChica.com 2021 The Thrifty Chica

DECIDE THE SIZE

I wanted an oversized decal for my tree skirt, so Imeasured out approximately the size needed. Include themaximum height and width possible so when you adjust thesizing you won't go past the maximum sizing. It wasaround 20" in length x 9" in height. Break out your green Cricut StandardGrip Mat in the 12" x24" size. You'll also want to make sure you have enoughiron-on vinyl, so rolls are perfect for these projects!

20"

9"

BREAK IT INTO SECTIONS

How do you adhere a decal that's larger than your HeatPress or Easy Press? You'll have to work in sections toapply it. Evaluate how many sections it will take yourmachine to heat the whole decal.

For this example, I heated the decal in half sectionsbecause I used the 12" x 10" Easy Press machine. Makesure to use a teflon sheet, butcher or parchment paper toprotect your design since there will be a little overlap.

HEATING STEPS

If so, pre-heat the whole area. Then, tape down your decal to your object. Use a protectivesheet of butcher or parchment.Apply heat to one section first.Apply heat to the other section. If the Heat Guide suggests pressing the back, flip the projectover and press it.Allow decal to cool to suggested warm or cool peel (depends onthe material.)Check the decal after cooling. Has it firmly adhered?

Check out the Cricut Heat Guide. Do you need to pre-heat? 1.2.

3.4.5.

6.

7. If not, add heat for up to half the time suggested.

*Less heat time is better in this case because there is an overlapbetween the sections.
