In addition, steel products are 100% recycla-ble as most steel production uses a very high amount of recycledmaterial.Pedestrian SafetyAll IRONSMITH’s tree and trench grates are designed to take heavypedestrian loads without bowing, flexing or movement. No grateshave openings larger than 1/2”, preventing heals, wheels, canesand crutch tips, etc. from getting caught. These grates not only allow,but invite pedestrian use, expanding the walkable area and reducingthe hazard of an open tree well.Tree HealthToday’s urban environment is challenging for trees. To accommodatethis challenge, IRONSMITH offers a wide selection of large tree gratesizes that give the trees as much room as possible. Series 2 offers a larger selectionof rectangular grates withmatching square and roundmodels. Tree openings are thesame as Series 1. In addition,96” square and round grateshave optional 40” and 48”openings.

Standard tree opening is 16" onsizes up to 60"...or special order,or later expand to 18" or 28",with larger openings availableon request. Half section 72"grates are available with 16", 26"or 36" openings. Both series 1and series 2 grates meet A.D.A.requirements.

“America’s tree grate”,Starburst, is one of ourmost versatile grates,equally at home in a highfashion mall or on a busy side-walk. It’s our most popular treegrate and is available with 1/4"slot openings (Series 1) and 3/8"slot openings (Series 2).Note that some rectangular sizesare available in both series.

Ironsmith tree guardsare fabricated and jigwelded from hot rolledsteel (ASTM-A36) in manyrugged styles. They can beattached to the tree grateby first drilling and thenbolting, or can be mount-ed to a crossbar, availableas an option with the grateframes. They'refabricated in halves andbolt together for easylabor saving field assem-bly, with all installationhardware provided byIronsmith. Standard tree-guard height is 5 feet andstandard tree opening is16", however any heightand opening may berequested.

The expandable center addresses theneed for future expansion as the tree

matures. By removing the centerpanel, the 12” square opening

increases to 24” to accommodatethe growing tree trunk. Paver-Grate’s

design practically eliminates weedgrowth and trash accumulation, aspaving materials cover everythingbut a small area around the trunk.

Ironsmith now has the exclusivelicense to manufacture and distributethe patented Paver-Grate paversuspension system. It’s an alternative totraditional tree grates and permitspavers to be suspended directly abovethe tree pit area. This allows a seam-less look while preserving air andwater circulation, while preventing soilcompaction and roots from liftingpavers.

Paver-Grate is suspended 2-4inches above the root ball, permittingthe root system to expand withoutdamage. Air, water and nutrients canreadily circulate and the tree is easilyaccessible should it become injured ordiseased.

Available standard in 4’, 5’, 6’ and8’ sizes, and custom sized to yourproject. Paver-Grate is lighter than tra-ditional grates and does not require aframe, so installation is easy.

All Ironsmith bollards are cast in gray iron or aluminum,with a minimum 7/16" wall thickness for increased strength.

Most styles may be ordered to accommodate chains.Bollards are usually permanently embedded in thepavement. (An imbed is part of the casting and standardwith all Ironsmith bollards). Alternately, they may be set in asteel sleeve (provided by Ironsmith) to be easily removed foremergency access. We recommend aluminum for removablebollards due to weight considerations.
