Good NewsJune 2020“Who Are You?”

Exodus 3:9-12“The cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” And God said, “I will be with you.”

“Who am I?” Moses asked.

Seriously, who was he? Moses grew up in Pharaoh’s household. His mother had put him in a basket on the Nile River and he’d just happened (there are no coincidences!) to be picked up by Pharaoh’s daughter and raised as her adopted son (He didn’t deserve that honor!).

He’d grown up in Pharaoh’s household, but he still identified with his people, who were enslaved. So, one day, when Moses saw an Egyptian oppressing an Israelite slave, he murdered the guy. The next day he saw an Israelite oppressing another Israelite. But he didn’t murder him. He asked, “Why are you doing this to your fellow Israelite?” The guy said, “What, are you going to kill me, too?” Moses fumbling attempt at leadership ended with him fleeing for his life as Pharaoh looked to kill him.

So, Moses found himself in Midian. He got married and worked as a shepherd for 40 years. By the time of the burning bush incident, Moses was 80 years old! He’d spent the last 40 years talking to sheep. He was asking a legitimate question when he asked, “Who am I, Lord?”

We’d be right to ask often, “Who I am? Lord, who am I that I should be called to be a part of your holy people? Who am I that I should believe

Page 2: irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com  · Web view2020-06-27 · Items especially needed are: Canned peas, peas and carrots are most needed of all the vegetables, pork n beans/baked beans,

in Jesus and belong to you? Who am I that I should have the privilege of representing your gospel to all the people in my life?” The answer? Nobody. I’m nobody. I’ve got nothing to offer to God. He could’ve picked anyone else to do what he’s called me to do.

That’s kind of the whole point! He didn’t have to pick me, but he did! He didn’t see anything especially good about me, but he chose me in spite of who I was, to show who he is. That’s why a better question is, “Who are you, Lord?” “Who am I?” God says, “I AM WHO I AM.” Now that’s a cool answer. I am Pastor Paustian. I am 28 years old. But God? God just is. Eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God. There is no one like him. In grace and mercy, he has called you and me to be what we were not. He has called us saints, part of his holy people, “God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9). We exist to glorify God with everything we’ve got, same as Moses. Moses asked, “Who am I?” and God said, “I am with you… I AM WHO I AM. This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.”

Celebrate 150 Years of Sharing God’s Grace!

Annual Voter’s MeetingWas held June 24

Anniversary Rock PaintingPaint a rock! Help celebrate our church’s 150-year anniversary with a little arts and crafts fun!

We would like all families, young and old, to participate! Get your creative juices going! You can paint as many rocks as you want! Send us a picture with your anniversary painted rocks and we'll post them on Facebook and Instagram!

We will collect the rocks at the church picnic/anniversary celebration. We thought it would be fun to go home with someone else’s painted rock as a little memento. The other thing we can do with the rocks is to use them as outreach. Place them along hiking and walking trails for someone else to find. Maybe put a heart with “Jesus” on the rock or a bible verse, etc.

We can't wait to see what you come up with!

SCHOOL NEWSGreetings from Bethlehem Lutheran School and Happy June:

As I prepared to write this current article, I looked back on an article that I had written for “Good News” back on March 11. In that article I made reference to COVID-19, not knowing that within a short period of two weeks the students of Bethlehem Lutheran School would no longer be able to be educated here at school and that words like “virtual learning’ and “social distancing” would be so much a part of our lives. There have been so many changes in such a short period of time relating to worship, education, and in general life at home, yet our loving God reminds us in Hebrews 13:5, “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” How thankful we can be that we have such a loving and caring God who brings us so much comfort and assurance through His Word.

From March through May the teachers of Bethlehem Lutheran School used a variety of means to continue the education of their students. The teachers used their computers to present lessons to the students and to keep in contact with them also through emails, phone calls, and text messages. Several faculty members shared online devotions with their students and parents as well. We designated days when parents could return completed assignments to the lobby of the school while also picking up new assignments for their children to complete. We would like to thank the parents for their support and cooperation during these unique times. A virtual school Closing Service was conducted by Pastor Paustian with the faculty participating. At the end of the service each of the faculty members had the opportunity to speak to their students and parents telling them how much they missed seeing them and also telling them how much they looked forward to seeing them in the new school year.

We would like to thank Nancy Anderson for serving as our 4k teacher this year and Morgan Shevey for serving as our teacher in Grades 4-6. We also want to wish Morgan God’s blessings as she is married this month and will serve as the 3rd Grade teacher at Risen Savior Lutheran School - East in Milwaukee starting in July.

Our new principal, John Kujath and his wife, Lisa, arrived earlier this month and participated in the faculty’s In-service meeting at the end of the school year. Mr. Kujath has been involved in meetings that have introduced him to our FOSS Science kits as well as planning meetings pertaining to the safe opening of the school in August and special funding grants as it relates to the federal C.A.R.E.S Act of COVID-19. We wish Mr. & Mrs. Kujath God’s blessings as they begin their service here at Bethlehem.

Open enrollment continues for Grades 4k-5. Just a reminder that we are offering an expanded 4k program this year. Parents can make use of the morning only or all-day program that now takes place five days a week. Please contact Mr. Kujath if you have any questions about enrolling at Bethlehem Lutheran School.

As I close this article, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve Bethlehem Lutheran School as your principal. It has been a blessing to work with such a servant hearted pastor, faculty, staff, and members of the Board of Education and to meet so many members of the congregation who desire to see Christian Education continue at Bethlehem. May the Lord continue to bless and be with you.

Bethlehem Lutheran School 2020-21 Registration Available OnlineRegistration for the next school year for Grades 4K-Grade 5 is available online at www.bethlehem-wels.com/enroll-4K-5. Please share this information with family, friends, and neighbors! New this year: the 4K program will be available to parents 5 days per week either half day or full day. Childcare will be available before and after school for Bethlehem students 4K-12 years old at an additional cost.

Accreditation Volunteers NeededAs many of you know, Bethlehem Lutheran School is beginning the school accreditation program known as WELSSA (Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod School Accreditation). To carry out the requirements associated with the WELSSA Standards and prior to any site team visit, it is necessary to organize various committees to react to and to meet those standards. We plan to have only two committees working at a time. As one committee finishes its work, another committee would begin their work. Right now, we are seeking names of members from the congregation who would be willing to serve on a committee. Please contact Mr. Kenneth Kasten, at 715-938-1120 or contact the office at [email protected]. He can share with you the roles of the various committees. Thank you, in advance for your willingness to serve.

Early Learning Center Position OpenBethlehem Early Learning Center is looking for a full time Infant or Two-Year-Old Lead Teacher. The center is open 6:30am-5:30 pm, hours vary depending on the enrolled children's schedules. Preferably looking for someone to work 4 days per week, 8-10 hrs per day. Experience is preferred, but not required. If interested, please contact Elaina Mercier at [email protected] for more information.

Food ShowerOur principal and 4K teacher John and Lisa Kujath have moved to the area and we would like to fill their pantry to get them started. Items and gift cards can be brought to the box in the entrance area of church starting on July 12th, or to the school office during office hours.

God’s Blessings and congratulations in their accomplishments and in their future endeavors!
