IRRAWANG PUBLIC SCHOOL
An Innovative, Vibrant and Diverse Learning Community
Term 2, Week 6, 2 June 2017
Dear Parents/Carers Only 4 weeks left of Term 2. Time flies when we are having fun!
Semester One Reports
Teachers have been busily assessing and writing carefully considered and individualised comments for each child here at IPS. These will be sent home by the end of week 9 with some classes having 3 way interviews in week 10 and the remainder in early Term 3. More information to come on how that process will look.
All visitors
As of Monday 5th June, ALL VISITORS need to report to the front office to sign in and wear a visitors badge. In accordance with the Department of Education Working With Children Check overview, we have developed a streamlined approach to visitors in the school. The office staff have been trained in what proof of ID and forms are required of you when working with children and been asked to collect all necessary information.
If you are simply dropping off or collecting your own child, you do not need to report to the office. However, all other visitors must officially sign in. This includes:
All contractors
All persons working with children (Kids Hope, Scripture, anyone through the NDIS scheme for example therapists, special guests who are working with children, cleaners etc)
All visitors entering Thou Walla
All visitors entering Preschool
All visitors entering the canteen
Hello Winter
As days become colder we are seeing our warmer clothes being worn at school. We all want our Aussie 5 Superstars to stay warm, however our school uniform is still 100% in place. What is acceptable: Long royal blue slacks or tracksuit pants. Royal blue jumpers from your choice of providers or the school jacket from LOWES. What is not acceptable: Hoodies or different coloured jumpers.. Exceptions: beanies and gloves in royal blue/navy/black can be worn BUT not in the classroom and a beanie is not considered a sun safe hat.
Kind Regards Mrs Mathieson Principal

Canberra Excursion
Our Stage 3 Canberra excursion is creeping up, with the final date for payment as Friday 25th August, week 6 of Term 3! Thank you to those families who have been paying off their accounts and a HUGE thank you to the families who have paid in full! Thank you to those that have handed in medical notes. A reminder that these were due by last week. Copies of the payment plan and medical notes are at the office. Students from our school will soon be undertaking an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government is contributing funding of $20.00 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon the completion of the excursion.
1B
1B is the fantastic new addition to the Irrawang roster
this year, boasting the friendliest, hardest working little
Aussie 5 legends this side of the Grahamstown Dam.
When they aren’t conversing in Spanish or exploring
the coast lines of far away lands on google earth, they
are engaged in hands on, challenging and creative en-
deavors both in and outside of the classroom. 1Bers
are problem solvers, authors, mathematicians, drum-
mers, landscapers and artists. 1B are the bees knees. 1B always working hard.
Izaak loves building things with Lego. Creating and following procedures to make
bubbles.

IRRAWANG PUBLIC SCHOOL’S Students, Teachers and Parents are
SAFE, RESPONSIBLE LEARNERS who show RESPECT in all settings, to everyone at all times.
SORRY!
But I hit the wrong font button.
So are you going to…
‘Report or Tattle/Dob’ on me?
While on duty this week, I witness a child who saw a friend in distress.
She went over to her friend. Her friend had been knocked in the nose.
They both came over to tell me what had happen and told me that it was
an accident.
They didn’t tattle or dob because it was an accident!
All they just wanted to know was how to make the nose feel better!!!

Our Irrawang-Kids Hope Program By Community Liaison Officer, Melissa Beasley
The Kids Hope program was started in 2009 by the school chaplain who felt that a number
of students would benefit from one-to-one mentoring for various reasons. Kids Hope was
implemented to fill that need. The program is still going strong 8 years later with 14 current
mentors/mentees.
With funding by Raymond Terrace Community Church (RTCC), the Program is coordinated
by Michelle Bryan and run with Volunteers from RTCC.
Children are selected by the Principal and teachers. Each child meets with their mentor for
one hour each week at an allocated time. The mentor provides support, encouragement
and guidance as needed. Activities are based on the student’s interests.
We would like to thank Michelle Bryan, Matt Connor, Fay Galloway, Frank Lupton, Dianne
Clarke, Kerry Beeton, Shelly Daniell, Chris Thomas, Melissa Game, Vanessa Blanch, Betty
Lodge, Lorraine Holder, Margie Standing & Jodi Crane. Some of the Volunteers are shown
in the photos below.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME Last Wednesday 24th May, Irrawang’s Library participated in the 17th annual National
Simultaneous Storytime. NSS aims to promote the value of reading and literacy and fun of books. In 2016, over 520000 students from over 3500 locations participated in this event.
Students who were in the Library on this day were able to read and enjoy one of Australia’s favourite childhood stories The Cow Tripped Over the Moon—written by Tony Wilson and
Illustrated by Laura Wood. All of the students loved this book and the activities that followed. This is a picture of what we did.
Stage 2 and Stage 3 Inquiry Projects
Years 3-6 have made an amazing start to their Inquiry Projects in Library. Some students have even come in to the Library during their lunch times to begin their research. By Week 10, it is hoped that Irri’s Library will transform into a Learning
Showcase to share with you all the amazing things our students are learning through research. Stay tuned for all of the details.

PSSA Soccer
Our team played in an absolute nail
biter of a game on the 19th of May
against Wirreanda PS.
We had several early chances to
score. Both team's goalies were kept
very busy. At full time the score was
1-1 so the teams had to play an extra
10 minutes of extra time.
Wirreanda scored in the dying
minutes of the game to knock us out
of this years competition.
Well done to the team for their
teamwork and attitude and to Ms
Cowan for her commitment to
coaching the team. Fantastic effort!
