What is Negotiation?
A method by which people settle differences A process by which compromise or agreement is reached while
avoiding argument
Why is it necessary? Individuals aim to achieve the best possible outcome for their
position/their organization However, the principles of fairness, seeking mutual benefit and
maintaining a relationship are the keys to a successful outcome.
Inevitably, conflict and disagreement will arise as the differing needs, wants, aims and beliefs of people are brought together.
The purpose of negotiation is to try to reach agreement without causing future barriers to communications.
A structured approach to negotiation to achieve a desirable outcome
1. Preparation2. Discussion3. Clarification of goals4. Negotiation towards a WIN-WIN situation5. Agreement6. Implementation of a course of action
Tips for effective negotiation

Understand that non-verbal communication is important in determining the speaker's style
What is it? It means: to make a deal between
different parties where each party gives up part of their demand.
A concept of finding agreement through communication, through a mutual acceptance of terms—often involving variations from an original goal or desire.
Compromising
Compromising
Extremism is often considered as antonym to compromise, which, depending on context, may be associated with concepts of balance and tolerance.
In the negative connotations, compromise may be referred to as capitulation, referring to a “surrender" of objectives, principles, or material, in the process of negotiating an agreement.
In human relationships "compromise" is frequently said to be an agreement that no party is happy with, this is because the parties involved often feel that they either gave away too much or that they received too little.

Exchanging of Ideas
Idea is a thought or collection of
thoughts that are generated in
the mind. An idea is usually
generated with intent, but can
also be created unintentionally.
Ideas often form during
brainstorming sessions or
through discussions.
Exchanging of Ideas
Language easily understood
Remember that the language you use every day may be confusing to others. Simplify anything you can in order to find a comfort level for your listener
Illustrations
Research has proven that over 60% of those listening to us are visual learners. An illustration may engage your audience, and help stimulate learning.
Organize Thoughts
This will allow those listening to you to remain on the same level because people enjoy order and clarity.
Narrow subject to key points
Discuss what you feel is most important, don’t overload your listener with unnecessary information.
Summarize
You will further clarify your point, and your listeners will have another chance to retain the information you have provided them.
Habits
Habits are automatic routines of
behavior that are repeated
regularly, without thinking. They
are learned, not instinctive, human
behaviors that occur automatically,
without the explicit
contemporaneous intention of the
person.
Good and Bad Habits
Just as we have good habits, we also have bad habits. Despite
the original function of habits to simplify our lives, we can
also develop habits that are negative and destructive.
Good Habits
Wake Early
Exercise
Visualize the Day Ahead
Be Proactive
Connect with Nature
Go to Bed At A Reasonable Time
Read/Listen to Motivational Material
Skipping breakfast
Oversleeping.
Getting late for work/school
Smoking/drinking alcohol
Procrastinating
Bad Habits
“State of complete physical, mental, and social well
being, and not merely the absence of disease or
infirmity.”
- World Health Organization
Valuing the Importance of health
The time "out of action" will be lessened due to less diseases.
Lengthened life span.
The time saved and maybe used to for things you would not have time for otherwise.
Increased energy and vitality , therefore better quality of work.
Can enjoy what you do (both work and play).
It is easier to enjoy physical activities such as your sports.
Empowers you to do things which would otherwise be impossible, such as climbing a mountain.
Benefits of Good Health
Passive voice is used when the focus is on the action. It is not important or not known; however, who or what is performing the action.
Example: My bike was stolen. In the example above, the focus is on the fact that my
bike was stolen. I do not know, however, who did it.
Sometimes a statement in passive is more polite than active voice, as the following example shows:
Example: A mistake was made.In this case, I focus on the fact that a mistake was
made, but I do not blame anyone.
Using Passive Voice Effectively
Subject + finite form of to be + Past Participle
When converting active voice into passive voice, The object becomes subject the finite form of the verb is changed (to be + past participle) the subject becomes the object (or is dropped)
Anne wrote the letter – The letter was written by Anne.
Examples: The room is swept everyday.
A letter was written.
Tea is being prepared.
Tea was being prepared
My bicycle has been stolen.
A camera will be brought.
Passive Voice – Points to Note
Adjectives are words that describe nouns or pronouns.
They may come before the word they describe (That is a cute puppy)
They may follow the word they describe (That puppy is cute).
Examples: Follow the yellow cab. (The adjective yellow modifies
the noun cab) It is the girl with the pale face again.
Adjectives and Adverbs
Adjectives
Adverbs are words that modify a verb (He drove slowly. — How did he drive?) an adjective (He drove a very fast car. — How fast
was his car?) another adverb (She moved quite slowly down the
aisle. — How slowly did she move?)
Adverbs often tell when, where, why, or under what conditions something happens or happened.
Example: She placed the vase carefully on the shelf. (The
adverb carefully shows how the vase was placed)
Adverbs
Examples:
• Adverbs describing how something was done.
Uneasily, Weirdly, Cheerfully, Expertly
• Adverbs describing where Action Happened.
Here, There, Everywhere, Somewhere
• Adverbs describing when an action occurred, or its time
Now, First, Last, Early
Adverbs
Use the Simple Past to express the idea that an action started and finished at a specific time in the past.
We can use several tenses and forms to talk about the past, but the past simple tense is the one we use most often.
Irregular verbs:Irregular verbs change their form entirely or not at all.
eat --- ate, go --- went, be --- was/were,hit --- hit,
Regular verbs:Base form+ ed = Simple past
walk walkedpush pushed
Using Simple Past Tense
P.S - She did her homework yesterday.
P.Q - Did she do her homework yesterday?
N.S - She didn’t do her work yesterday.
N.Q - Didn’t she do her work
yesterday?
Using Simple Past Tense
Most people use 'fixed phrases' in greeting, small
talk, introduction and leave taking.
These expressions usually don't add new
information or important information but they are
polite and make people feel comfortable. Good Luck! This is my place. I wonder if this will work out.
Using Fixed Phrases Meaningfully
It is important that texts should be structured clearly. And for
that purpose sequence markers can be used.
Sequence markers in English are a certain group of items,
mainly adverbs and preposition phrases that link sentences
together into a larger unit of discourse. These linguistic items
go by various names, e.g. conjuncts, sentence adverbials,
connectives, linking devices, amongst others.
Sequence markers can signal how to interpret the
relationship between sentences in a number of different
ways.

A thing we understood about language skills is,
practice is an integral part of perfection. While
we appreciate the amount of online exercises
available, we wish to request a larger number
for practice purposes.
