NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 5) which is identical withISO9182-5: 1992 ‘Tools for pressing — Guide pillars— (Part 5) : Type D, end-locking pillars with flange’ issued by-the International Organization forStandardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendations of theMetal Forming Machines Sectional Committee and approval of the Basic and Production EngineeringDivision Council.

The text of the ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard withoutdeviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is

particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be readas ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker in the International Standard, while in IndianStandards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.

In the adopted standard, reference appears to the following International Standard for which Indian Standardsalso exist. The corresponding Indian Standards which are to be substituted in their place are listed belowalong with their degree of equivalence for the editions indicated:

1 Scope

This part of ISO 9182 specifies the dimensions andtolerances, in millimetres, of guide pillars, type D,end-locking pillars with flange, intended for use inpress tools.

It gives guidance on materials and specifies thehardness and the designation of guide pillars whichmeet the requirements of this part of ISO 9182.

2 Normative reference

The following standard contains provisions which,

through reference in this text, constitute provisionsof this part of ISO 9182. At the time of publication,the edition indicated was valid. All standards aresubject to revision, and parties to agreements basedon this part of ISO 9182 are encouraged to investi-gate the possibility of applying the most recent edi-tion of the standard indicated below. Members ofIEC and ISO maintain registers of currently validInternational Standards.

4 Material and hardness

5 Designation

Guide pillars for press tools in accordance with thispart of ISO 9182 shall be designated by

a) “Guide pillar”;

b) reference to this part of ISO 9182;

c) its type;

d) its diameter, d,, in millimetres;

e) its length, 12, in millimetres;

f) its length, 1, in millimetres.

EXAMPLE

The designation for a guide pillar, type D, of diam-eter 4 = 12 mm, length /2= 12 mm and lengthf= 63 mm is as follows:
