0.1 This Indian Standard (Second Revision) was adopted by theIndian Standards Institution on 31 December 1985, after the draftfinalized by the Animal Feeds Sectional Committee had been approvedby the Agricultural and Food Products Division Council.
0.2 In order to encourage the use of solvent-extracted oilcakes (meals)for feeding the livestock and at the same time to ensure the extractedmeals to be free from toxic hazards, it was keenly felt by the Ministryof Health that national standards be formulated to control the quality ofthe solvent extracted oilcakes ( meals ).
0.3 It has been observed that it is toxic to the poultry and should not beused in their ration in quantity exceeding 5 percent.
0.4 This standard was firlt published in 1966 and revised in 1968. TheCommittee in the present revision took note of the latest developmentsin the manufacturing, trading, storing and consumption pattern of theproduct and accordingly the requirements are being modified. Opportunity is also being taken to align the references to the test methods forvarious requirements given in IS : 7874 ( Part 1 )-1975*.
0.5 Inclusion of the aflatoxin limit in the standard did not find favourwith the Committee at this stage because of the non-availability of areliable and quick method for its determination. Further, data for fixinga safe limit in the product meant for livestock feed was also not available.However, it was a considered view of the Committee for fixing this limitas early as possible. 4. •

0.6 In the preparation of this standard due consideration has been givento the provision of the solvent extraction orders. However, thisstandard is subject to the restrictions imposed under these, whereverapplicable.
0.7 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of thisstandard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated,expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS : 2-1960*. The number of significant places retained in therounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value inthis standard.
1. SCOPE
1.1 This standard prescribes the requirements and methods of samplingand test for solvent-extracted decorticated cottonseed oilcake ( meal ) foruse as livestock feed ingredient.
2. REQUIREMENTS
2.1 The material shall be in the form of either flakes or powder and shallbe free from other harmful constituents. It shall be free from rancidity,adulterants, insects or visible fungus infestations and from musty odour.The material shall be free from harmful constituents. It shall be freefrom other extraneous matter including metallic pieces,

2.3 The material shall also conform to the requirements prescribed inTable 1.
3. PACKING AND MARKING
3.1 PaeklDI - Unless otherwise agreed to between the purchaser andthe vendor the material shall be packed in clean and sound jute bags orHDPE bags. The mouth of each bag shall be either machine-stitchedor rolled over and hand-stitched. If hand-stitched, the stitching shallbe with strong twine with at least 14 stitches in each row. ,-

3.2 MarkiDI - Each bag shall give indelibly and legibly the followinginformation:
a) Name and grade of the material;b) Name of the manufacturer;c) Batch or code number;d) Net mass in kg, when packed; and
e) Date of packing.
4. SAMPLING
4.1 The method of drawing representative samples of the material fortests and the criteria for conformity shall be as prescribed in Appendix Cof IS : 2052-1979*.
5. TESTS
5.1 The tests shall be carried out as prescribed in col 4 of Table 1.
5.2 Q,uality of RealeDts - Unless specified otherwise, pure chemicalsand distilled water ( see IS : l070-1977t ) shall be employed in tests.
NOTB - 'Pure chemicals' shall mean chemicals that do not contain impurities~hich affect the results of analysis.
