Many have stated that it is impossible to know whether or not we are living in the last days

before the second coming of Jesus Christ. However, below you will find dramatic proof that

these are the endtimes. The proofs below defy coincidence.

Euphrates River to Be Dried Up In Revelation 16:12, the Bible predicts that the Euphrates Riverwill be dried up to prepare the way for the kings of the east to invade Israel. This will happen at the time of the battle of Armageddonaccording to verse 16 of the same chapter. The battle of Armageddon will be the final battle at which time Jesus will return and fighton the side of the nation of Israel. Immediately thereafter He will establish His kingdom and usher in His one thousand-year reign ofpeace. On January 13, 1990, the Indianapolis Star carried the headline “Turkey Will Cut Off Flow of Euphrates for One Month.” Thearticle stated that a huge reservoir had been built by Turkey. While filling up the reservoir, the flow of the Euphrates would be stoppedfor one month and a concrete plug for a diversion channel built. These things have now been done. With this newly built dam, Turkeyhas the ability to stop the Euphrates River at will. The conditions for fulfilling this 1,900 year-old prophecy are now in place.

In Revelation 9:15-16, the Bible prophesies that an army of 200 million soldiers will launch a war which would kill “the third part of men.”Never in the history of the world until our present generation has there been a power in earth that could field 200

million soldiers. However, the late ruler of China, Mao Tse Tung boasted in his diary that he could filed an army of 200 million. The CIA World Factbook reported that as of the end of 1999, China had 198 million men of military age, and this number is growing by 10 million per year.

In Revelation 13, the Bible prophesies that aworld dictator will soon rule over a world government. He will cause all people in the earth to receive a number without which theywill be unable to buy or sell. We are seeing this prophecy fulfilled before our eyes in a most astonishing way. Nearly every humanbeing in the world now has been assigned a number. In America it is our Social Security number. In the past few years, we have seenthis number extended to newborns. A child without a Social Security number cannot be declared as a dependent on an income taxreturn. We have seen the emergence of electronic money, shopping with credit cards, and many people urging the abolishment of cash. All of these things could not possibly have been fulfilled until this present time. Only after the invention of the computer could such aworldwide numbering system be administered.

Revelation 13:7 andDaniel 7:23 prophesy the establishment of a world government. The term “New World Order” has become a prevalent phrase in theworld’s political culture. Mikhail Gorbachev made the term famous, and Pope John Paul II has referred to it repeatedly. In theSeptember 12, 1990 issue of the Chicago Tribune, our former president George Bush said, “Iraq is the first test for the New WorldOrder.” He emphatically stated that the Iraq War is Saddam Hussein against the world. The United Nations’ troops are continuallyreferred to as the multi-national forces. The decision has been made to establish an interdependent community of nations that will rulethe world under United Nations authority. The Bible says that this will lead us into a great world government. The formation of thisgovernment is at hand.

Is it coincidental that all of these major prophecies pertaining to the last times are being fulfilled simultaneously?

The Anchor Man

In a relay race, the anchor man is theone who runs the last leg of the race.He gets the baton last. If his team isbehind, they depend on him tomake up the difference. He’s the

strongest, fastest and, most importantly, the one with the most heart. He keeps giv-ing when there’s no more to give. He’s theanchor man.

The baton of the gospel has been handedfrom one generation of the church to theother. Now it has come down to us—theendtime generation. Perhaps we don’t feelworthy to be entrusted by our captain JesusChrist with this crucial position, but pickus He did. So we are running.

The finish line looms just ahead. Wehave no time for protestations of unworthi-ness or lack of qualifications. We must justrun! We didn’t ask to be the anchor man ofthe church, but He who knows best placedus here. Yes, it would be nice if the ApostlePaul were here, but he’s not. The baton inthe hands of Peter would feel so good rightnow, but his appointment from the ChiefCornerstone was to get us started right.Somehow I have to believe that He whoknows all, knew what He was doing whenHe ordained for you and me to have thebaton in our hands at the setting of the sun.

So there’s no time for second-guessing

our Master. Just run! Forget your lack ofability. Just teach another Bible study!Don’t stumble over your lack of education.Just go pass out another tract! Whetheryou understand it or not, you are God’schosen anchor man. We don’t really havetime to think about it now, but it was usthat God foreknew when He said of theendtime church, “…the people that doknow their God shall be strong, and doexploits. And they that understand amongthe people shall instruct many…” (Daniel11:32-33).

Six billion people! That’s our assign-ment… to reach six billion people. Makeno mistake about it. When Jesus said inMatthew 24:14, “And this gospel of thekingdom shall be preached in all the worldfor a witness unto all nations; and thenshall the end come,” He had this time inmind.

So how do we cope? What do we do?Run a little faster! Legs keep moving!Baptize someone else. Witness to that ladyacross the aisle on the plane! We can do it!I know we can do it! For the same one whogave us this assignment, taught us that wecan do all things through Christ thatstrengthens us. Let’s give it all we’ve got!Just a few more yards to go and then thefinish line!

From Islamabad, PakistanGreetings in Jesus Name. I live and work in Islamabad,

Pakistan. It is an Islamic country. As you know Islam is a greatforce in the world, and it is closely connected with the Holy Cityand the temple. Do they have any role to play in the Battle ofArmageddon? As is evident, the strongest reaction is seen inIslamic countries if any thing happens in there. I would like toknow it from the prophetic point of view.

Pakistan is a great country. It shares the borders with China,Afghanistan, Iran and other important areas. It would be nice ifyou and your team could visit here and see this yourself.

A fellow laborer in Christ,Rev. K. PervaizIslamabad, Pakistan

Reply: As far as I know, Pakistan is not specifically mentioned in theprophecies of the Bible. However, I think it is very likely that Pakistancould be drawn into the coming China War. I know that you are veryaware of the historic and present tensions between India and Pakistan.Through the years, there has also been conflict between China andIndia. Since we know that one-third of mankind (two billion) will bekilled in the China War, we know that more than Chinese will die.Since India and Pakistan are neighbors to China, I think it is proba-ble that they will become embroiled in this prophesied conflict.

Also, thanks for your invitation to Pakistan. We would love to visitsome time.

Are You Consistent?I heard you advise a caller that he should “trust in God,”

rather than resort to the use of firearms when considering thephysical protection of his family. To support your position, yourecalled how Peter was instructed to put away his sword, after

severing the ear of one of those who had come for Jesus in thegarden.

While I cannot make the connection between this event andthe caller’s question, I can respect your position IF you are con-sistent in its application. I would assume that you do not haveyour children vaccinated against disease. I would assume, also, that you do not require their use of seat belts while in a motorvehicle. And, of course, you do not waste money on any kind ofaccident insurance. In every case where the less spiritual head ofthe family might act to protect those he loves, you would, ofcourse, “trust in God.”

Surely, you must display this consistency, for, if not, youwould be a hypocrite, taking a position which you feel wouldminimize the number of listeners offended and thus maximizethe contributions received. No, that must not describe you.

In Christ, Bill Shope

Reply: The issue you raise is not an easy one. However, we shouldattempt to follow the Bible’s teachings in every question of life. In Luke3:14, John the Baptist instructed his disciples to “…Do violence to noman.” We also know that one of the Ten Commandments is “Thou shaltnot kill.”

Applying the same principle, the Bible does not say, “Thou shalt notwear a seat belt.” And it does not say, “Thou shalt not vaccinate yourchildren.”

I would suggest to you that trusting God with our lives is not such abad idea.

prestige and persuasion trying to broker a deal, but there is nopeace. I believe Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat will use force toconquer Israel and put his headquarters there according toZechariah 14:2 and Revelation 12:14-16. Please explain this tome clearly.

Reply: There is evidence in scripture that the Antichrist will occupythe Temple Mount. We don’t know whether this will be a one-day cere-mony or his setting up of permanent residence. II Thessalonians 2:3-4speaks of the time when the “man of sin” will sit in the temple of Godclaiming to be God. Daniel 11:45 states that the Antichrist will“plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holymountain.”

To say that Yasser Arafat will fulfill these scriptures is to believe thathe will be the Antichrist. Though I would have to rank him among thetop three candidates, there appears to be reasons why he will probablynot be the Antichrist. (See our Endtime video, “Is the Antichrist AmongUs?)

Will “He” Confirm Abraham’s Covenant? Please comment on what you think about “the covenant”

mentioned in Daniel 9:27 as being the same covenant that Godfirst made with His people in Genesis 17:19-20. Couldn’t thefirst part, “and he shall confirm the covenant with many,” meanthat many other world leaders will, along with the Antichrist, confirm what God has already spoken to His people concerningthe land in the Bible?

S. LaughlinFt. Worth, Texas

Reply: There are many covenants referred to in the Bible. The one towhich you refer is one of the outstanding ones. Another covenant worthyof notice is the one where God vowed to place His name in Jerusalem (IKings 11:36). In 1993, the nation of Israel adopted a covenant calledthe Jerusalem Covenant. The beautiful six-foot scroll is enshrined in aglass case on the main floor of the Israeli Knesset. This JerusalemCovenant declares that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the nation ofIsrael.

The prophecy in Daniel 9:27 teaches that animal sacrifices will bein progress and then stopped during the first three and one-half years ofthe seven-year period called Daniel’s seventieth week. Jews believe thattheir temple must be rebuilt before sacrifices are resumed. Consequently,we know the Third Temple will be standing during this first three andone-half year period.

Since the present conflict between Palestinians and Israelis hasJerusalem at its center, I think it is very likely that the JerusalemCovenant could be the covenant spoken of in Daniel 9:27. I think youridea of the Antichrist confirming the covenant with other world leaders(and with Israel) is accurate.

Into the Final SevenI’m a little confused about the tribulation thing. If I under-

stand some of what you are saying, it sounds like you are sayingthat the seven years have already begun. Is this correct? If so,please help me understand when it started and how far along weare in this tribulation of seven years. Is it a literal seven years ordoes it mean something else?

Timothy

Reply: We did not mean to leave the impression that we have enteredthe prophesied final seven years. Furthermore, the tribulation will notlast seven years. Jesus taught in Matthew 24:15-21 that the GreatTribulation begins at the time of the Abomination of Desolation, whichoccurs halfway through the final seven years. This indicates clearly thatthe Great Tribulation lasts for three and one-half years.

How About Israel & United States vs. World? We were watching your “Questions & Answers” video in “The

Sequence of Endtime Events” series. Bro. Baxter was saying thatthe attitude of the world would be against Israel, especially aftertwo billion people had been killed and Israel continued to berebellious against the leadership of the UN. The thoughtoccurred to me: Why would they have to bring a large worldforce against a country as small as Israel? It appears to me thatsomebody with a lot of power must be in the picture with her.Sure hope it is the U.S. What do you think?

Bro. Clyde Missouri

Reply: We know that Revelation 12:14 speaks of the persecution ofIsrael and the possible U.S. intervention on her behalf. (The woman isIsrael and the United States is the eagle.) This was written 2,000 yearsago and seems to have its fulfillment in the special relationship betweenIsrael and the U.S. today. If this is true, then U.S. intervention on thepart of Israel at Armageddon cannot be totally ruled out. However, thisis not specifically prophesied in scripture. It should be noted, however, that the intervention of Jesus Christ on behalf of Israel is specificallymentioned in Zechariah 14:1-4. Somehow, whether the United States isthere or not, I believe Jesus will be well able to handle the job!

BY IRVIN BAXTER JR.

When our tour groupentered the UnitedNations on March27, 2000, our UNtour guide stressed

from the outset, “The United Nations isnot a world government.”

When the time came for our specialbriefing, UN official Bill Hass again stat-ed, “The United Nations is not a worldgovernment. It’s nothing like that.”

It was obvious to me that theseemployees of the UN had been carefully

trained to specifically emphasize that theUnited Nations is not a world govern-ment. But merely declaring that some-thing is not true, does not necessarilymake it not true. So the question remains:“Is the UN a world government?”

Why does it matter? Before we attempt to determine if the

United Nations is, in fact, a world gov-ernment in the making, we need tounderstanding why it even matters.

The most urgent reason for needing toknow is that the Bible prophesies theemergence of a system of world govern-

ment on earth for the immediate future. If the UN is a structure for global gover-nance, then it is obviously the prophesiedworld government, especially since noother structure for world governmentpresently exists on earth.

Speaking of the world government andthe powerful political leader that will ruleit, Revelation 13:7 says, “And it wasgiven unto him to make war with thesaints, and to overcome them: and powerwas given him over all kindreds, andtongues, and nations.” Notice that thiscoming world government will havepower over all nations. Furthermore, the

leader of this world government, a manthe Bible calls the Antichrist, will makewar against true Christians that will be onearth at the time.

The same prophecy is given in Daniel7:21-23, “I beheld, and the same hornmade war with the saints, and prevailedagainst them…Thus he said, The fourthbeast shall be the fourth kingdom uponearth, which shall be diverse from allkingdoms, and shall devour the wholeearth, and shall tread it down, and breakit in pieces.”

Both of these prophecies, though writ-ten seven hundredyears apart, foretella government thatwill rule over all theearth. They alsostate that the rulerof the prophesiedworld governmentwill launch a timeof terrible religiouspersecution.

These scripturesclearly indicate thatthe prophesiedworld governmentwill become tyran-nical and will sup-port the satanicallyinspired reign ofthe Antichrist.

Are globalplanners evil?

When the United Nations waslaunched in 1945, the horrible carnage ofWorld War II and its 52 million dead wasfresh in everyone’s mind. World leadersbelieved that the next war might destroyall of mankind. Many of them saw nation-alism as the root cause of war and sincere-ly felt that a system of global governmenthad to be implemented. The UnitedNations was designed to be that system ofglobal governance.

However, let’s make one thing clear. The prime movers at the founding of theUnited Nations understood full-well thatthey were launching an organizationdesigned to be a global government. Aworld economic system was createdincluding the International MonetaryFund (IMF) and the World Bank. AWorld Court was provided for and struc-tures for military action were set up.

The thinking of some of the globalists

at the time is illustrated by a statementmade by Assistant U.S. Secretary of StateWilliam Benton before the UnitedNations Educational, Scientific andCultural Organization (UNESCO) in1946.

“As long as a child breathes the poi-soned air of nationalism, education inworld-mindedness can produce only pre-carious results. As we have pointed out, itis frequently the family that infects thechild with extreme nationalism. Theschools should therefore…combat familyattitudes that favor jingoism (or as it is

defined—nationalism). We shall seepresently recognized in nationalism themajor obstacle to the development ofworld-mindedness. We are at the begin-ning of a long process of breaking downthe walls of national sovereignty.UNESCO must be the pioneer.”

Not all political leaders of the timeshared Assistant U.S. Secretary of StateBenton’s enthusiasm for world govern-ment. Leaders in the United States insist-ed on retaining veto power over the deci-sions of the UN Security Council in orderto preserve U.S. sovereignty. Manybelieved that this move condemned theUN to impotence! They contended thatnothing short of an enforceable worldgovernment would be able to banish thescourge of war from the earth.

Fifty-six years laterThe report card of the United Nations

since its birth has been somewhatmediocre. On the positive side, there hasnot been another world war and mankindhas not been obliterated from the face ofthe earth. On the other hand, many mil-lions have died in armed conflict duringthe past 56 years. Weapons of massdestruction, more deadly than ever, threaten the future of the world. As weenter the new millennium, there isenough weaponry poised at the ready todestroy all human, plant and animal lifeoff the face of the earth many times over.Mankind is as close to self-annihilation as

it has ever been. However, since the

birth of the UN,those who believethat world gover-nance is the answerto peace on earthhave not been idle. They have been dili-gently weaving a webof international law, which they believecan lead the worldinto a genuine newworld order. Sincethe fall of the BerlinWall and the end ofthe Cold War, mostconflicts have beenconfronted by theUN in the nameof the WorldCommunity. Most of

the lesser nations of the world havelearned that the international forces of theUnited Nations cannot be ignored. Theblue-helmeted soldiers of the UN havedeveloped teeth. The leaders of the 184nations that do not enjoy veto power onthe UN Security Council have recentlylearned that, if they do not bow the kneeto the edicts of the emerging global gov-ernment, they face the very real danger ofbeing placed on trial before the WorldCourt.

Yet, because of the continued existenceof the veto power and weapons of massdestruction, the major powers still teeteron the precipice of igniting a world-engulfing nuclear holocaust.

So what are the globalists planning?

After the fall of the Berlin Wall andwith the approaching of the fiftieth

anniversary of the birth of the UN, it wasfelt that the time was right to conduct areappraisal of the structures of the UN.This was set in motion through the ini-tiative of Willy Brandt, former PrimeMinister of Germany and president of theSocialist International. A group of 26people were assembled to form theCommission on Global Governance. Theyworked under the leadership of IngvarCarlsson of Stockholm and ShridathRamphal of London. Their job was toevaluate the path that global governanceshould take as the world entered into the21st Century.

Their report was released to the WorldCommunity in November 1994 underthe title Our Global Neighborhood. Sincethat time, Our Global Neighborhood hasserved as the road map of the globalistsand the United Nations.

So that we can know what is beingplanned by the UN for our future, let’sreview some of the proposals made by theCommission on Global Governance.

A global belief systemOur Global Neighborhood says it this

way: “The quality of global governancewill be determined by several factors.High among them is the broad accept-ance of a global civic ethic to guide actionwithin the global neighborhood…”

The document goes on to explain,“People have to see with new eyes andunderstand with new minds before theycan truly turn to new ways of living. Thatis why global values must be the corner-stone of global governance.”

Over the past ten years, many peopleand organizations have attempted to for-mulate a belief system that could serve asthe global ethic for the emerging systemof global governance.

The Parliament of the World’sReligions, which met in Chicago in1993, offered its version of a global ethicto the world.

Hans Küng, the eminent RomanCatholic theologian, has written a bookentitled, A Global Ethic for a Global Politicand Global Economic.

When the religious leaders and thepolitical leaders of the world gathered atthe UN for the Millennium Summit(August 28-September 8, 2000), theyadopted a mission statement for theworld called the Millennium Declaration. With this adoption of the Millennium

Declaration, the dream of a global ethicfor the world became a reality.

A world courtThe Commission on Global Gover-

nance was adamant concerning the needfor compulsory jurisdiction of the WorldCourt. They stated their case as follows:

“When the founders of the UnitedNations drew up the Charter, the rule oflaw world-wide loomed as one of its cen-tral components. They established theInternational Court of Justice at TheHague—commonly known as the WorldCourt—as the ‘cathedral of law’ in theglobal system. But states were free to takeit or leave it, in whole or in part…Therule of law was asserted and, at the sametime, undermined; from the outset theWorld Court was marginalized.

“In an ideal world, acceptance of thecompulsory jurisdiction of the WorldCourt would be a prerequisite for UNmembership. Those who wish to belongto the community of nations should bewilling to abide by its rules and demon-strate their willingness by accepting thecompetence of its highest legal body.

“A number of states, however, are will-ing to use the World Court only when itsuits their short-term interests. This lastsituation is wholly unsatisfactory.”

This dream of a world court systemwith compulsory jurisdiction is now veryclose to realization. The InternationalCriminal Court Statute of Rome wasadopted on July 17, 1998. It establishes a

permanent world court with jurisdictionover every person on earth whether hisnation ratifies the Criminal Court Statuteor not.

The International Criminal Court(ICC) will begin to function once sixtyparliaments ratify the statute. That isexpected to be achieved some time in2002.

Abolish the vetoWhen the United Nations was formed

in 1945, the total surrender of nationalsovereignty to a world government wasjust not acceptable—especially to theUnited States. The powerful oppositionto the surrendering of U.S. sovereigntywas mollified by the granting of vetopower to the five victor nations of WorldWar II. The possession of the veto overdecisions of the UN Security Councilinsured that the “big five” could not beforced into compliance to edicts of theworld government system against theirwill.

Critics of the veto contend that it is thenumber one reason why the UN has beenunable to fulfill its mandate of freeing theearth from the scourge of war.

The Commission on Global Gover-nance agrees with this assessment as thefollowing statements from Our GlobalNeighborhood illustrate:

“Reform of the Security Council is cen-tral to reforming the UN system.Permanent membership limited to fivecountries that derive their primacy from

events fifty years ago is unacceptable; so isthe veto.

“The second stage (of UN reform)should be a full review of the membershipof the Council…around 2005, when theveto can be phased out…”

Ladies and gentlemen, once the vetopower is removed, we are in world gov-ernment! Need I remind you that 184 ofthe 189 UN member nations have no vetopower right now? These nations havebeen under the control of world govern-ment for some time. Just ask SaddamHussein. Ask Slobodan Milosevic, formerpresident of Yugoslavia, who, even now, isdesperately seeking to avoid trial beforethe World Court.

A global taxFor some time,

the globalists havecontended that theUN must have anindependent sourceof revenue in orderto fulfill its man-date. They pointout that large con-tributors can holdthe UN hostage bywithholding contri-butions until theyget their way.Especially gallingto some has beenthe withholding offunds by the UnitedStates, the UN’slargest contributor.

The Commissionon Global Gover-nance came down hard on the side ofglobal taxation. Following are some of theideas proposed in Our GlobalNeighborhood.

“A start must be made in establishingschemes of global financing of global pur-poses, including charges for the use ofglobal resources such as flight lanes, sealanes, and ocean fishing areas and the col-lection of global revenues agreed globallyand implemented by treaty. An interna-tional tax on foreign currency transac-tions should be explored as one option, asshould the creation of an internationalcorporate tax base among multinationalcompanies. It is time for the evolution ofa consensus on the concept of global tax-ation for servicing the needs of the global

neighborhood.” You heard right! The Commission on

Global Governance clearly called for aglobal tax!

This really should not surprise us. Forseveral years globalists have been quietlyand carefully promoting the idea of aglobal tax. The most mentioned is calledthe Tobin Tax. It would be levied on allinternational financial transactions at therate of five-tenths of one percent. Thisseems like an insignificant amount. However, it would generate $1.5 trillionin income for the United Nations peryear. The present yearly budget for theUN is listed as $10 billion. This taxwould multiply the UN income by 150times! With that kind of money to spend,

the United Nations could really do someglobal governing!

UN standing armyOur Global Neighborhood points out

that the United Nations is handicappedwhen dealing with armed conflict aroundthe globe. Since it has to rely on nationsto supply troops when a crisis arises, many times the UN response time is tooslow. The solution to this problem as setforth by the Commission on GlobalGovernance is to create a standing UNarmy. Listen to the ideas of theCommission.

“The United Nations has, at present,no capacity to deploy immediately a well-trained force to carry out the mandate of

the Security Council in the early stages ofa crisis, before a situation gets completelyout of control. Governments are under-standably reluctant to commit troops rap-idly for UN action, particularly in civilwars and internal conflicts, where the riskof loss of personnel is higher than in tra-ditional peacekeeping operations. Thishas renewed interest in an idea originallyraised in 1948 by Trygve Lie, the firstUN Secretary-General. He called for theestablishment of a small United Nations‘guard force’ that would be recruited bythe Secretary-General and placed at thedisposal of the Security Council…It ishigh time that a UN Volunteer Force wasestablished. We envisage a force with amaximum of 10,000 personnel.”

Back to thequestion

Let’s summarize. The UN plans for aWorld Court thatcan try individualcitizens from anynation on earth. Itwants to abolish theveto power so thatnations will beunable to stop anyaction that the glob-al majority woulddecide upon. TheUnited Nations isplanning for its owntax system so that itwill not be subject tothe financial controlof donor nations. And it wants a

standing army that can move quickly toenforce its decisions upon the nations ofthe earth.

Now for the question…Is the UnitedNations in the process of becoming a gov-ernment? When you have a system ofinternational law, the power to tax, thepower to place on trial and to incarcerate, and the power to employ troops toenforce your decisions, ladies and gentle-men…you have a government.

Do not be misled by the slick oratory ofthose that would deceive us with suchnonsensical statements as: The UN isglobal governance, not a global govern-ment.

Stop the presses! Does anyone have adictionary?! What is governance anyhow?

The blue helmet of the UN is a stark symbol of the increasing use of the military force by the UnitedNations.

World Book Dictionary gives the followingdefinition for governance: government, rule, control.

The next time a globalist tells you thatthe UN is not a global government, but isan instrument for global governance, askif he is stupid or if he thinks you are!Governance is government, and globalgovernance is global government!

The UN has a constitution, a system oflaws, courts, an army and a system of tax-ation. Only five nations can disobey theedicts of the United Nations withoutrisking military reprisal. And plans are inthe offing to remove the special status ofthese five.

What global leaders are sayingRichard Gardner, former Deputy

Assistant Secretary of State, wrote inForeign Affairs, April 1974:

“We are likely to do better by buildingour ‘house of world order’ from bottomup rather than from the top down…anend-run around national sovereignty, eroding it piece by piece, is likely to getus to world order faster than the old fash-ioned assault.”

Strobe Talbott, Deputy Secretary ofState during the Clinton administrationand Bill Clinton’s roommate at Oxford:

“In fact, I’ll bet that within the nexthundred years…nationhood as we knowit will be obsolete; all states will recog-nize a single, global authority. A phrasebriefly fashionable in the mid-20thCentury—‘citizen of the world’—willhave assumed real meaning by the end ofthe 21st Century.”

Robert Muller, Assistant SecretaryGeneral to three UN Secretary Generals;served at the UN for 38 years.

“At the beginning the UN was only ahope.

“Today it is a political reality.“Tomorrow it will be the world’s reli-

gion.”

National sovereignty and global governance

When interviewing Maurice Strong, the man entrusted with reforming theUnited Nations, I asked him to explainthe difference between global governanceand global government.

Strong stated that nations retained

their sovereignty even though they dele-gated government at the internationallevel to the UN. He explained that thestates of the United States retain a level ofsovereignty even though they have dele-gated sovereignty at the national level tothe federal government.

This comparison did not comfort me atall since I live in the United States. AllU.S. citizens know very well that theindividual states are not sovereign.

Perhaps this would be a good time totake a look at the definition of sovereign-ty. World Book Dictionary defines sover-eignty this way: Independent of the con-trol of another government or govern-ments. World Book gives the following

example to clarify the definition: TheUnited States of America is a sovereignnation, but the 50 states which composeit do not have full sovereignty.

The bottom line is this…if the UnitedStates ever surrenders its veto on the UNSecurity Council, we will merely be oneof the states in the United States of theWorld. We will no longer be a sovereignnation.

Why do globalists attempt to deceiveby saying that the UN is global gover-nance not global government? Becausethey know that the vast majority of us donot want to be under the control of aworld government. But they believe thatworld government is the answer for thefuture of the world. Consequently, theyattempt to disguise world government bycalling it global governance. The effort todeceive is deliberate!

The UN has a set of laws. It has a courtsystem. It has a Secretary General and aGeneral Assembly. The UN has soldiersthat enforce its will on the world. And itwill soon have its own system of globaltaxation.

The sooner we face the truth, the bet-ter. If it looks like a duck, walks like aduck, and quacks like a duck, then it is aduck.

Ladies and gentlemen, the UnitedNations is a world government!Furthermore, it is the world governmentprophesied in the Bible over which theAntichrist will soon rule! ❏

News from the Front Office

God Wanted Something Else…What a wonderful time we had at our

Prophecy Retreat here in Richmond,Indiana! Yesterday we said goodbye to afew dozen Politics & Religion listenersand Endtime readers.

While it is fresh on my mind, pleaseallow me to share some of the weekend’shighlights.

We found that it wasn’t hard to makefriends, because everyone had much incommon. Of course we shared interest inprophecy…but unity went beyondprophecy. This was a special group. Wehungered and thirsted after God. Wewanted to know Him.

After a great dinner at the conferencecenter, a few informal opening remarks, awarm-up Q&A session and a good night’ssleep, and we were ready to go. My intentfor the weekend was not to simply pullthe rip chord and recycle lessons fromUnderstanding the Endtime. We couldhave done this. It would have been well-enough received and made my life a tadeasier. Throw in a few current events, andwe all would have enjoyed it! During ourweekend there was a terrorist bombing inTel Aviv that killed 20 Israeli youths andwounded 80, prompting Ariel Sharon tolift his self-imposed cease fire—leadingto who-knows-what. We lived throughhistory and knew how to make propheticsense of it. That was easy. But I felt inprayer that God wanted something else.

The decision was to teach what I can-not teach on radio. The overriding themewas Revelation 17 – the Mother ofHarlots and all of her daughters.Amongst friends we spoke freely of the

Vatican’s place in theendtimes – what she hasdone and her effect oneach of our lives. I did mybest to let the Biblespeak and the Spirit haveHis way.

I taught a lesson calledUnderstanding theGodhead and what Jesusmeant when He said thatyou must be born again.

Question & Answersessions followed eachlesson. The Q’s wereexcellent and came indroves. The A’s camefrom the Word as best asI was able. You could

sense the hunger. It was pure.We were a diverse lot. Attendees came

from as near as northern Indiana and as faras British Columbia, Canada. They drovein from Omaha on the west, NewHampshire in the east, and Texas andGeorgia from the south. Each came witha purpose; with questions. Some camewith hurt and pain; starved; inquisitive;seeking an experience. Many denomina-tions were represented; however, theBible became the only denomination ofsignificance at this retreat.

We toured the Endtime facilities. Thegroup enjoyed a live broadcast in action, and we recorded two programs of ourown. On Saturday night, we drove to thenicest restaurant in Richmond, and after-wards to my church for a service. It lastedwhat seemed like halfway into the night, and yet not nearly long enough. Manywere baptized. Many were filled withGod’s Holy Spirit. There was no preach-ing. The Spirit moved. Words cannotexplain with justice what we experiencedon Saturday night, so I will not even try.

We captured most of the proceedingson audio and video. The audio is avail-able; we’re not sure what to do with thevideo yet.

The conference center was cute andserved us enough food to choke the BlackHorse of the Apocalypse. The weatherwas lousy and we were all too happy tostay inside – but that’s where the action

was anyway. Our Endtime staff memberswere thrilled to meet and spend timewith so many people they have come toknow so well by phone and throughemail.

I get the feeling we will be havinganother Prophecy Retreat. And when wedo, I hope you are able to join us!

Exclusive Interview

Exclussive IInterview

Window of OpportunityFor China it Might Be Now-or-Never

Edward Timperlakewas a presidentialadvisor on Chineseaffairs in both theReagan and Bush

administrations. He and his writ-ing partner William Triplett co-authored two bestselling books,Year of the Rat and Red DragonRising. The former documentshow the Communist Chinese pen-etrated the American governmentthrough campaign contributionsto Clinton and Gore. The lattershows how China, the leadingnational security threat, hasgrown to become ever more dan-gerous.

Timperlake and Triplett haveover 50 years of combined profes-sional experience in national secu-rity affairs. Both have an intenseappreciation for the future strate-gic threats facing the UnitedStates and the rest of the democraticworld. Both have been interviewed onseveral occasions by Endtime.

The following is a recent interviewwith Edward Timperlake. The sidebararticle, on pages 20-21, “A DespicableBreach of Trust” highlights the escalatingtensions (understated) between the U.S.and China.

Baxter: Ed, where are we right now inour relations with China?

Timperlake: At a critical point. Therecent U.S. elections were important inthis regard. By switching administra-tions we have brought a team to the fore;President Bush and his senior advisors,Secretary Powell, Secretary Rumsfeld,

and Condoleeza Rice of the NationalSecurity Council are hardened pros. They all saw the demise of the SovietEmpire. They saw how nuclear deter-rence, toughness and fortitude of princi-ple works.

We have a president that has saidTaiwan is worth defending. This is animportant issue. America has a challenge– to rebuild our defenses. We are going inthe right direction right now. But we dohave a red zone. I hate to use a footballcliché, but they’ve moved down the field. They’re approaching us. I think ourdefenses will be built, and we are going tosend the right signals. The president andhis team have awakened the Americanpeople hopefully to what needs to bedone.

Sax: But you think we’ve given up 80yards already?

Timperlake: I think we did. Exactly. That’s an excellent analogy. They’re play-ing in our half of the field.

Sax: Ed, you mentioned Hitler. Therewas a lot of rhetoric coming out of NaziGermany in the 30’s, but people didn’tgive it any credence. Look what hap-pened. They said they would do certainthings, and they did. Now there has beena tremendous amount of rhetoric comingout of China. They’ve made it very clearwhat their intentions are with Taiwan. And we’ve made our intentions prettyclear what we’re going to do about it.

Are these guys in Beijing full of hot

air? Are they just blowing smoke, or isthere something more?

Timperlake: It’s more. When I was inthe intelligence business, I studied theSoviet Empire with some pretty high-level clearances. Our fundamental ques-tion always had two parts. What are youropponents’ intentions and what are theircapabilities? You had to marry these twofactors to get the complete picture.

The Chinese have made no secret abouttheir intentions. But what are their capa-bilities - their military? Before I addressthat, however, I want to say that my fightis not with the Chinese people. Ourhearts go out to the citizens of China whosuffer under this totalitarian regime. I ampicking on the leaders.

They have a bad system. And insidethat bad system they have good and badpeople. A lot of their “bad people” aretheir military officers who are writingsome very ugly things about attackingAmerica. Well, is it bombast, and is ithollow? No. And here’s why.

In your introduction you mentionedthe Sovremenny destroyer. TheSovremenny has eight Sunburn missileson it, which have nuke warhead capabili-ty. These are high speed, 2.5 times thespeed of sound. They cruise in a few hun-dred feet above the water, do a pop-upmaneuver about 80 kilometers out andcome down on a carrier or cruiser and takeit out. With a nuke blast you don’t haveto get too close.

The Russians and Chinese are shakinghands and working with each other. Theyare sending very powerful forces upagainst the American fleet. America hasthis terrible policy... I’m sorry; it’s a won-derful position in a lot of ways—we don’tshoot first...usually. Because of that, ifthat destroyer gets off its armament load, those sailors—those young men andwomen in the Seventh Fleet would havetheir hands full with an incoming attackthat they may not have the appropriatedefenses for. That’s why the President ofthe United States and his Secretary ofDefense are sounding this wake-up callon missile defense, a wake-up call onrebuilding the military, and a wake-upcall telling China to back off on Taiwan.

they have already run a few laps aroundthe track, and we’re still trying to get ourshoes on. We were going backward in thisregard up until just a few weeks ago.

Baxter: I want to make sure everyoneadequately appreciates what is going onhere. Back in 1996 when Taiwan had itsfirst democratic elections, China launchedmissiles five miles off the coast of Taiwanas a warning. The U.S. countered by put-ting two of our aircraft carriers, into thestraits of Taiwan. China had no militaryanswer for our aircraft carriers. Shortlythereafter, China placed an order withRussia for two Sovremenny destroyers. They have just taken delivery of theseships. And as you mentioned, Ed, they dohave nuclear warhead capabilities. Afterfive years, China now has an answer to ouraircraft carriers.

Timperlake: Yes. That is true.

Baxter: Let’s go down a different roadnow. George Bush is announcing theimplementation of an anti-missile defensesystem. One date I read was that by 2004we will have some of those weapons inplace.

Look at it from China’s viewpoint. They have threatened to take Taiwan. They said you can stake your life on it; weare going to do it; in fact, we are willingto “shed all of our blood if necessary.”Those were the exact words of ZhuRongji, the Prime Minister of China. Will there be a time when diminishingreturns hit them? A time when instead ofpulling closer, they start falling furtherbehind? What I am trying to say is, whatis their window of opportunity?

Timperlake: You ask the absolutemost insightful questions I’ve ever got-ten. I was just on Taiwan. The issue is notabout “absolute” military strength. It’sexactly what you’re talking about, whichis “relative” military strength. What do Imean by that?

The Chinese military has fortified theircoast with 300 of those missiles nearTaiwan. That is enough to paralyze muchof the Taiwanese infrastructure. They cantake out runways, hit the ships in port ifthey catch them off guard and shut downtheir power grid. I’m not talking aboutnukes here. They have the “relative”strength for a strategic strike that can

cripple an island like Taiwan with thepress of a button. This is a serious imbal-ance, and Taiwan has a serious problem. The gulf is wide. But with missiledefense, maybe, just maybe in the foresee-able future, we can then see a ray of hopethat our technological capabilities will beable to track and knock down theatre bal-listic missiles, which is what we’re talk-ing about here. If we develop effectiveweaponry to knock those down, then wewill have brought stability back to thatpart of the world. The surprise attack can-not happen. China would then be forcedto negotiate.

I think the president took a courageousstep in this direction when he started theanti-missile defense program. This tech-nology can stop this threat in the PacificRim that, in a moment’s notice, can cre-ate havoc on our troops and on the

Taiwanese, South Koreans, or God forbid, the Japanese.

The greatest hope for humanity is forthe People’s Republic of China to eventu-ally decide they’re on the wrong path ofhistory and for their government tochange.

Baxter: Let’s bring another factor intothis. Back in 1995, Chinese GeneralXiong Guankai, known as General X,said to Charles Freeman of our StateDepartment that he didn’t think that wewould trade Los Angeles for Taiwan.

Timperlake: That is correct. In fact, that was a very powerful statement.Obviously the General made a joke, right? He said it in the heat of themoment? Off the cuff? No, no! TheChinese were very serious. The phrase he

used translated to something like,“Americans are not prepared to trade L.A.for Taipei.” He and the Chinese govern-ment backed it up. So it was not a falsestatement. It wasn’t made with bluff. Itwas made at the height of a moment say-ing, look, that’s the way we’re thinking, and you Americans had better understandit.

That’s what catches me by surprise. Alot of the apologists for China tend toignore what they’re saying!

Baxter: Because we don’t want tobelieve it. Because we’d like to believethey want peace as much as we do.

Timperlake: Exactly right.

Baxter: Let’stake this to thenext step. Chinatoday has at least24 intercontinen-tal ballistic mis-siles equippedwith nuclearweaponry.

Ti m p e r l a k e :I’ve heard as highas 28, unclassified.

Baxter: Andwho knows howmany they reallyhave.

Ti m p e r l a k e :Yes.

Baxter: These24 or 28 are “city-buster” atomic bombsten times as powerful as the one droppedon Hiroshima. This would give China theability to take out dozens of majorAmerican cities. Once we get the anti-missile defense system effectively work-ing, China’s position, all of a sudden, willbe greatly reduced. They are gettingready to lose their checkmate ability forthe United States of America. So if they’regoing to take Taiwan, they’ve got to do itbefore the anti-missile defense system isup. That’s serious.

Timperlake: We are in a very danger-ous period. My co-author, Bill Triplett, has been studying the Chinese military

since 1965. I’m the weapons expert. Istudy weapons, military positioning anduse of force. Our combined read is thatChina has a transition problem in the nearterm. Some of their old rulers hate to letgo, and some of their military want to behardliners. They are having internaldebates right now on the appropriatestrategy for exercising their will aroundthe globe. A lot of the arguments that youhave made, I am sure are being discussedin the halls of Beijing daily. Specifically, what will they do considering their rela-tive power against America, and theirability to make a surprise surgical striketo paralyze Taiwan.

I don’t know where they will go, butmy argument is very clear. This debate

has to be taken in front of the Americanpeople so they know what the exact stakesare, because it could turn very ugly. Wewill probably have to bring the SeventhFleet into harm’s way and casualties willoccur. That is something the countrymust be ready to rally around. But let’shave this debate before the first missileflies.

Baxter: You’ve been studying theChinese for a long time. What is thepotential for miscalculation? What is thepotential that they would launch a light-ning strike against Taiwan and then lookat the United States and say, “It’s over.Forget about it. You said you subscribed

to the One China Policy. (Even GeorgeW. Bush has said this.) We had rebellionon our hands. If it were Texas, you wouldgo in and defend your sovereignty there.Likewise, we are defending our sovereign-ty in Taiwan. Are you going to risk asuperpower nuclear exchange on a policythat you yourself have said you subscribeto?”

Is that a possible scenario?

Timperlake: It was much more possi-ble when Bill Clinton was president, because they were getting mixed signals. The miscommunication was muchgreater. Yes, I’m sure the president sub-scribes to the One China Policy. But ifyou’ll notice, he also said that we will sell

the equipment nec-essary to Taiwan, and make sure theyare not overrun byforce of arms. A def-inite line has beendrawn. I think thatis a powerful andimportant signal tosend right now. Itmakes them thinktwice.

If Taiwan loses itsfreedom and democ-racy...if Taiwan isallowed to be“painted red,” thatis, if the communistChinese take overand impose theirwill on it, thenJapan has to cut aseparate deal, SouthKorea gets nervous,

and on down through the Pacific Rim. Itall becomes unstable. America then has tomake the choice to move out of thePacific, because Japan may have the uglychoice of going to nuke weapons.

Sax: The people who understand theprophecies in this area understand thatwhat you are telling us here is an all-too-real scenario.

Ed, you and I were joking earlier that, when you wrote your book Red DragonRising with Bill Triplett, there was thepossibility that it was just a moment intime when things got a little hot betweenthe two countries, and two opportunisticguys seized on the chance to write a big

scary book about this Red Dragon and itsrising military. And then a year later, thewhole thing blows over and life goes backto normal. Meanwhile, you and Triplettsold a few books along the way. It couldhave played out that way. But it didn’t.The fact is, the nation of China has beenfollowing through on everything you’vebeen discussing for years, and it’s gotten awhole lot worse.

Timperlake: At the military briefingsI attended while on the island of Taiwan, they showed pictures of a major highwayand rail line that runs down the entireChinese coast. The geography of that partof the world is nothing more than littlefishing villages and seaport cities. It’s ahighway to nowhere...except to Taiwan. They pointed out that it leads to all oftheir ports to load troops and logistics totry and figure out how to cross that straitand do some ugly things.

The Taiwanese are concerned, and theyhave every right to be.

I am a marine, and have trained inamphibious operations. I know how hardthey are. I believe the missile threat isprobably the most important one rightnow, and it has to be checked. The airthreat from China is extensive thanks tothe Russian equipment and top-flightfighters they’re buying. I was a marine

fighter pilot and a graduate of the SeniorOfficer’s Course at Top Gun. I know aircombat, and I know the Chinese air forceis increasing their military might withRussian purchases.

You are right on as far as the emergingthreat from China. My only hope is that, deep down inside, the Chinese people

may see how bad their system of govern-ment is and do something about it. It hasto come from within. We have to deterthem, and buy time.

Taiwan shows that democracy works. It’s an island with a population of only 22million people, and they have the 5thlargest economy in the world. To let themget gobbled up by China would be a greattragedy. By standing tall and saying it’swrong, the American people are sending apowerful signal around the world. This isour system of fundamental beliefs andgovernment. We don’t have to impose ourwill on everyone, but we do have to standon principle.

Baxter: And we have to stand againstthose who would impose their will byforce.

What we’re seeing here is a battle forthe soul of the world, Ed. We are eithergoing to face a 21st Century dominatedby true democracy and freedom, or wewill see a 21st Century dominated by aresurgent Marxist state. What you saidwas so valuable - that if we lose Taiwan, itbleeds to Japan, and to South Korea andto that entire part of the world - the partof the world that’s getting ready to be theeconomic powerhouse of 21st Century. It’s projected that in 2015 the AsianPacific Economic Cooperative (APEC)

May 4, China Thumbs Nose. Beijing said the United Statesdeserved to lose its seat on the UN Human RightsCommission because it has always used the body to “pursue itspower politics.” The Communist-state controlled Xinhua newsagency called the U.S. a “self-proclaimed human rights cham-pion” that lost its seat by legal means.

will have twice the gross national productof the United States. We’re dealing withvery high and weighty issues.

Timperlake: The strength of theRussian-Chinese alliance is somethingthat should give America pause. I don’tthink the Russians will ever fire theirICBM’s in anger. They are rational. Butquite frankly, by allowing this technologyto bleed into China, things have becomemuch more dangerous. And having themsteal our W-88, that’s the small nuke thatgoes in a multiple entry vehicle, hasincreased the China threat dramatically. You can put up to 11 of them on top ofone missile.

Baxter: Ed, are you telling me that ofthese 24 or 28 missiles that it’s beingreported that China has, they now havethe ability to put up to 11 warheads oneach one? That would mean they couldhit between 240 and 300 Americancities!

Timperlake: They’re getting to thatpoint. We don’t know. They’ve stolen thetechnology to build the small nukes. They have developed what’s called kickmotors, thanks to our defense industrialfirms who gave it to them for satellitepositioning. This means they can create a

vehicle to transport warheads into orbit tothe edge of the atmosphere, and then thekick motors send them raining down ontheir targets. The Chinese have all theparts. We haven’t seen them demonstratethat they can do it yet, but they bragthey’re getting close.

Another thing they’re getting close to,and they brag they’ve done it, is launch-ing missiles from submarine tubes underthe water.

All of a sudden now, the People’sRepublic of China is emerging as a mod-ern military superpower. They’re not thereyet with their nuclear arms at this point, but they are on the threshold of creating avery potent and capable nuclear arsenal.

America has always relied on strongweapons to tell the world, “Don’t messwith us. We mean peace. We will neveruse them in anger, and we won’t fire first. But remember, we have enough todestroy you.” That is what’s called deter-rence. Russia has it also. But notChina...yet, except what we discussed ear-lier – one missile, one warhead, one city. But the minute they start developing thetechnology they’ve stolen, bought andborrowed, then we have a significantproblem. We will then have to face Chinaas a superpower.

They’re not there yet, but they’re veryclose.

Baxter: It was reported recently thatRussia conducted a simulated attack. Thescenario was China and the U.S. experi-enced a nuclear exchange, and Russiasimulated what they would do in such acircumstance. Bill Gertz broke the story. If such an exchange were to happen, doyou see it likely that Russia wouldbecome involved, or would they be morelikely to stay out hoping China and theU.S. would bring each other down so theycould emerge as the dominant player onthe world scene? Do you have a feel forthat at all?

Timperlake: My personal feeling isthat your latter scenario is correct. I readRussia has an arsenal. They provide thegoods and military capability to China, then step back and say, “Why don’t thetwo of you fight it out!”

Sax: Your hunch seems to line up withthe prophecies of the Bible.

Baxter: Ed, the information you bringis essential for us. We do believe there isa confrontation coming. This is one of thetimes we hope we are wrong. And if I’vemisread this prophecy concerning a com-ing war with China, I’ll be very happythat I was wrong.

Thank you for being with us. ❏

national missile defense. “Washington is following a dangerouscourse... It is a new threat to world peace and security...andwill start a new arms race.” China also understands that ifnational missile defense works, it could shield Taiwan.

May 4, China Shuts Up. When asked why they would notallow American technicians on Hainan Island to inspect thedamaged U.S. surveillance plane, Beijing’s Chinese-Englishdictionary ran dry.

May 7, China’s Shore Seen. The United States resumedreconnaissance flights off the coast of China, the first sinceApril 1.

May 7, China Steers Shots. U.S. intelligence reveals that itdetected in early April China moved its 24 intercontinentalballistic missiles, most of which are aimed at U.S. cities. Sameday: The People’s Liberation Army is seen building ballisticmissile launch sites to cover U.S. military targets in thePacific.

May 8, China Chops Plane. Beijing announces it will forcethe U.S. to take the EP-3 reconnaissance plane home in pieces.A Chinese official said the U.S. should “draw a lesson” from thecollision and “correct such wrongdoing.” Deputy ForeignMinister Li Zhaoxing said, “If we allow such a military plane, which had a mission of spying on China, to be flown back froma Chinese military airfield, that would further hurt the digni-

ty and sentiments of the Chinese people.” It would be “thecause of strong indignation and opposition from the Chinesepeople. This is the reason for what we are doing.”

May 23, China Spouts Off. A 21-member congressional del-egation greeted the President of Taiwan in New York. Sameday, Washington, D.C. The President of the United States ofAmerica hosted Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama. Bothmen are denounced as renegades by China, promoting inde-pendence for their respective regions. Beijing accuses the U.S.of “rude interference.” They are “strongly dissatisfied andopposed” to the meetings. The official China Daily calls it a“despicable breach of trust” by Washington. Major media out-lets reported that the already sour relations between the twocountries took a marked turn for the worse that day.

The U.S. State Department said the visits should not have animpact on Washington’s ties with China. A senior WhiteHouse official who asked not to be identified, told Reuters,“Relations with China, I would say, are stable and more posi-tive than not.” Bush still intends to be at the Asia PacificEconomic Cooperation summit in Shanghai and meet withChinese President Jiang Zemin in Beijing in October.

Chinese officials say, “The new U.S. administration has goneback on its word...has broken its commitments,” and it shouldstop “interfering in China’s internal affairs.” Or else? ❏

Perspective

BY EDDIE SAX

Ilove summers. It’s my time tovacate and head for landsunknown. I thrive on changes inaltitude, new smells, and opportu-nities to plant seeds. I make the

bold assumption that I’m in the will ofGod and that He will lay across my pathcertain people for certain reasons. I asknot why; I just be me and figure it all

works out in the end.We had just toured the ice caves high

above the fairy tale Austrian village ofHallstatt. It was the summer before last, and it’s where we met Carol.

“Where’ you from?” my wife and Iasked her.

“Richmond.”“Virginia?”“Yes.”“We’re from Richmond, too,” I said,

“but we’re from Richmond, Indiana! What do you do?”

“I’m a school teacher.”“What grade?”“Third. How about you?”“I work for a prophecy ministry,” I

answered. “One of those fundamentalisttypes.” It was a probe. I was looking for asign of life.

“I have a real problem with religion. You know, organized religion.”

Apparently I hit a nerve. We were offto the races. Should be fun. She told usshe was raised in church, but one thingled to another and...you know the story.

“I have problems with organized reli-gion, too” I commiserated, suspectingthat my problem with it and hers weredifferent. “What’s your problem?”

“My uncle is a Pentecostal minister...Iwas raised Baptist...and it’s like...well,like my little five year-old niece comes upto me and says, ‘Auntie Carol, you’regoing to hell.’ It’s absurd...what they’vetrained this kid to be! My own niece! Ifthis is what religion is all about, then Iwant no part of it.”

“How shocking,” I said. How cool, Ithought.

“It’s like they’ve brainwashed her!” Terrible. Yes, simply terrible. “Is she

right?” I asked.“Huh?”Our bus was almost back to Hallstatt

and I didn’t want the conversation to be awaste. I persisted. “Is she right? Are you,or are you not, going to hell?”

She responded to my bombshell-of-a-question with some obvious hesitation.“Well, no!”

“You don’t sound so sure.”“I’m a good person.” Defense. And her

argument was as solid as the first littlepig’s straw house and I could tell sheknew it.

“C’mon, Carol. You know your Bible. Is that what it takes to make it in? Do all‘good people’ go to heaven? I thought itwas a belief thing – faith, repentance, obedience.” I used the ‘o’ word.

“Well,” she admitted. “I know I’m notliving right.” Confession.

“Waddya mean?”The bold were becoming meeker. “I’m

not doing what I should be doing.” “You mean according to the Bible?”“Yeah. I’m not living for God right

now.”We were about five minutes from

where my wife and I would be de-bussing. Carol and her two friends werecontinuing on back to their youth hostelin Salzburg. It’s now or never. I chose

now. “If you were to die right now, doyou think you would go to heaven orhell?”

“To be honest, I’d have to say hell.”She said it, not me. “So your niece was

right.”“I guess. But the fact that she said it...”

her voice tailed off.“It’s terrible, huh?” I said. I didn’t

mean it, and she suspected as much. I wonder what became of Carol. I figure

my wife and I were part of her lifelongjourney in search of Jesus. I wonder if sheever thanked her niece for being so hon-est.

I am immersed in prophecy every dayand, quite naturally, feel a great urgency. But it’s good to get out from under itevery once in a while to see if it still feelsas urgent; to see if I am a brainwash vic-tim like Carol’s niece. Pleased to reportthe answer is no. God’s word is as realhigh in the Alps as on the plains ofIndiana.

May you all have a blessed summervacation. ❏

Mideast Update

When You SeeThese ThingsPutting it all into perspective...

BY IRVIN BAXTER JR.

So how has it come down to this?Israel’s much-feared warrior,Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, isholding his nation in check, observing a unilateral cease-fire,

while Nobel Peace Prize winner YasserArafat fans the flames of terrorism until20 teenagers, mostly girls, are brutallykilled in Tel Aviv by one of Arafat’sPalestinian suicide bombers. How did we

get into this sinking Mideast quagmire, and how are we going to get out?

Barak’s offer...refusedWe can probably place the blame for

the present dangerous situation on for-mer U.S. President Bill Clinton. In hiszeal to forge a final peace agreementbetween the long-time antagonists, heforced the exposure of the fatal weakness-es of the Oslo Peace Process. He forcedArafat to reveal his true position.

The world was shocked when it wasannounced that Israeli Prime MinisterEhud Barak had offered to withdrawfrom almost 100% of the occupied WestBank, half of Jerusalem and to surrendersovereignty over the Temple Mount com-pletely and forever. The world was evenmore stunned when Yasser Arafat turnedthis unprecedented offer down! Arafatinsisted that 5 million Palestinianrefugees be given the “right of return” tohomes within pre-1967 borders. For

Israeli medics and police evacuate victims from the scene of a bomb explosion outside a discotheque on the beachfront in Tel Aviv, Israel early Saturday June 2,after a suicide bomber attack late Friday that left at least 20 dead and at least 80 injured.

Barak to bow to this unthinkable requestwould have meant the end of the nationof Israel.

Al Aqsa IntifadaTo add insult to injury, Arafat launched

a new wave of terrorism in response to thebest peace offer the Palestinians had everreceived, or were ever likely to receive.

It suddenly dawned on the world andeven on the liberals in Israel that Arafathad meant what he said one week afterOslo when he declared that he had madethe “peace of Saladin.” Saladin, in 1187,had only made peace as a strategic moveuntil he could manage to utterly destroyhis enemy.

Soon, even the United States acknowl-edged that the Oslo Peace Process wasdead. Public sentiment in Israel swung tothe right like a huge pendulum. But thePalestinian terror campaign continuedunabated. The longer the terror draggedon, the more Barak’s government lostsupport. Finally, he was forced to call newelections.

In the meantime, Israel was forced tostrike back, and the death toll began torise.

The loss of faith in the peace processand the rising toll of terrorism causedIsrael to vote for security in the person ofAriel Sharon. Most Israelis felt that Ariel“Warrior” Sharon was the only one thatcould bring security to Israel. OnFebruary 6, 2001, Sharon was swept intopower by an absolute landslide. His his-toric margin of victory was an astounding37%.

Once Sharon settled into office, IsraeliDefense Forces began to pick off terroristleader after terrorist leader, one by one.Slowly, the ferocity of the attacks escalat-ed. Finally, Sharon used F-16’s to bombsome Palestinian positions.

The International Community realizedthat events were spiraling out of control.A regional war lurked just over the hori-zon as a very real possibility. Loud callswere issued by the World Community foran immediate cease-fire. Still the violenceescalated.

Suddenly Sharon announced that theIsraeli government would immediatelyimplement a unilateral cease-fire.Palestinian terrorism continued.

One terrorist attack after another wasperpetrated by Arafat’s suicide bombers.Still Israel maintained the cease-fire.

Israel was demonstrating who reallywanted peace. International pressurebegan to build against Arafat and thePalestinians. Still the one-sided killingcontinued. World opinion tilted furtherand further in support of Israel.

Pacha Club massacreFinally on June 1st, a Palestinian sui-

cide bomber joined a line of teenagerswaiting to get into the Pacha Club in TelAviv. When he detonated his deadlybomb, 20 were killed and over 80 wereinjured—some severely.

Israel’s government quickly announcedthat its unilateral cease-fire was over. “Wejust cannot allow this to continue,”Sharon explained. The entire world wait-ed for the heavy hand of Israeli retaliationto fall. In the meantime, governmentsfrom around the globe brought heavypressure to bear on Yasser Arafat to joinIsrael in her cease-fire. Arafat has justannounced that all terrorist activity fromthe Palestinian side will stop.

As Endtime goes to press, the world iswatching to see if the words of YasserArafat will be followed by the appropriateaction.

What are the options?Confidence in Arafat as a peace partner

is almost non-existent in Israel. Rightnow, Israeli leaders are debating theirchoices.

Talk has been rampant about a planthat apparently exists to invade the terri-tories of the Palestinian Authority.Officials of the PA would be driven out ofthe country entirely and power would behanded to more moderate rulers thatwould work with Israel to restore peaceand security to both Israelis andPalestinians.

Another plan presently being consid-ered by Israel is to forge total separationbetween Palestinians and Israelis. A fenceof separation would be built and well-manned checkpoints would be the onlymeans of access between the two entities. Many consider this as unworkable howev-er.

Believe it or not, some want to revivethe moribund peace negotiations thathave for ten years failed to produce anagreement.

It remains to be seen what the nextbend in the road holds for the never-end-ing Middle East conflict.

Where are we headed? We are not totally clueless when it

comes to the future of the Holy Land. Theprophecies of the Bible reveal severalmajor developments that will occur in thenear future.

Revelation 11:1-2 and II Thessalonians2:4 tell us plainly that a temple will standon the Temple Mount before long. Daniel9:27 lets us know that animal sacrificeswill be re-instituted in Jerusalem afterthe temple is built.

II Thessalonians explains that theAntichrist will stand in the temple claim-ing to be God. This event will triggertremendous persecution in the area of theWest Bank settlements. Jesus prophesiedthis in Matthew 24:15-21.

Still, lasting peace will not come toJerusalem. The Bible clearly prophesiesthat the World Community will finallydecide to take matters into their ownhands. Zechariah 14:2 says that all nationswill come against Jerusalem. This willtrigger the coming Battle of Armageddon.

What should we expect then? What events could result in the build-

ing of Israel’s Third Temple. It willalmost certainly not happen because of apeace agreement with the Palestinians.Arafat had a chance at a much better dealthan that and turned it down. If a warwould break out, a new temple might bebuilt as a result of the new reality createdby the outcome of the war.

If Israel would implement unilateralseparation, perhaps one of the provisionswould be that Jews are allowed to pray onthe Temple Mount.

Then there is the possibility of a solu-tion imposed on the region by the UN.Would the United Nations allow thebuilding of the Third Temple by Israel? This would explain how an internationalleader, the Antichrist, would later standon the Temple Mount, claiming to besovereign there.

There’s one thing for certain. Jesus saidthat, when we see the prophecies of theMiddle East coming to past, we shouldlook up for our redemption draweth nigh.It is obvious that these prophecies willsoon be fulfilled. The only question isexactly when? That, we can’t say for sure. But we can tell what Jesus said: “Be yealso ready, for in such an hour as youthink not, your Lord doth come.” ❏

But the celebration was short-lived.When Vermont Senator James Jeffordsdefected from the Republican party, allSenate committee chairmanships shiftedto the pro-United Nations Democrats.

The defection signaled the end to JesseHelms’ reign on foreign policy in theCongress and what is being hailed by ana-lysts as the ushering in a new era thatpromises to be less isolationist and moreamenable to international treaties and theUnited Nations.

In a tellingly unbalanced Reutersreport, Helms was labeled as “the cur-mudgeonly North Carolina Republicanchairman of the Foreign RelationsCommittee,” who “earned the nickname‘Senator No’ by blocking treaties, nomi-nations or anything else that obstructedhis decidedly conservative worldview. Hisactive ideological agenda, fervent anti-communism and deep distrust of interna-tional organizations and many foreigngovernments made him a hero toAmerican conservatives and a villain tothose around the globe who saw him as asymbol of U.S. isolationism.”

EU Mirrors UN EnvironmentalPolicies

The European Commission is pushingfor a “sustainable development” policy forthe EU. It would aim to “assure econom-

ic growth while protecting the interestsof future generations.”

Referring to global warming, EuropeanCommission president Romano Prodisaid, “It is increasingly recognized thereare a number of worrying trends we needto address now before it is simply too lateor before the costs of reversing thesetrends rise steeply.”

The justifications being used by theEU on environmental policies appear tocome straight from a UN textbook.

“Europe should set the standard,” Prodiadded.

Jiang Slams Bush

“Logically unsound; confused andunprincipled; unwise to the extreme.”

This was Chinese President Jiang Zemin’spublic assessment of U.S. PresidentGeorge W. Bush.

Jiang said Beijing will “watch andassess” until he meets with Bush in thefall, and that Beijing should not makeany rash actions, particularly in view ofChina’s bid to join the World TradeOrganization and to host the Olympics.CNN reports that Jiang allegedlyremarked, “Let’s find out more aboutwhat Bush wants to do with Taiwan, theDalai Lama and the missile-defense sys-tem... Let him put more cards on thetable. We shall respond accordingly.”

Under internal pressure from his mili-tary, if Jiang fails to get concessions fromBush during their October summit, hemay be forced to significantly harden his

Senator James Jeffords announced his decision to leave the Republican Party and declared himself an inde-pendent.

UN University Takes Aim at America

A United Nations University report iscalling the World Bank and InternationalMonetary Fund outdat-ed institutions in needof overhauling. “Theprocess of globalizationhas given rise to newproblems and gover-nance needs,” said thereport. The moralauthority of the UN is“seriously underminedbecause its laws orprinciples are enforcedselectively when itsuits the interests ofthe rich and powerful,”an apparent referenceto its wealthiest mem-ber, the United States.

It also called forthe repeal of the vetopower, currentlyenjoyed by the U.S.and four othernations, and its cur-rent system of fund-ing by annual duesfrom membernations. The reportconcludes that theUN should have anindependent sourceof funding that would “loosen thereins of political control now exer-cised by the powerful memberstates.” America again.

How Can We Say No?

A massive global voting campaign is

underway called “Say YES for Children.”Its stated purpose is to “seek to influencethe outcome of the UN Special Session onChildren.” Its intended purpose is publicawareness of the need for global gover-nance structures. The use of children istheir vehicle of choice. After all, who cansay no to kids?

The “Special Session” is being hostedby the UN General Assembly inSeptember. UNICEF is coordinating ahuge coalition of individuals and organi-zations to ensure that people “every-where” will have access to vote. Helpingthe effort are AARP, Christian Children’sFund, World Vision and the U.S.

Conference of Religions for Peace.

Global Trackers, GlobalPressures

UN Chief Prosecutor at The Hague,Carla del Ponte, has been lobbyingNATO to create a special team dedicated

to tracking suspectedwar criminals. It wouldbe, in essence, a policeforce. Her initial targetsare criminals in BosnianSerb territory. It is notknown, however, wherethe force would set itssights once established. One would presume itwould not respectnational boundaries.

More internationalpressure came upon theregion by way of theUnited States, who isdemanding fromYugoslavia the extradi-tion of SlobodanMilosevic in return forU.S. aid. The UN isthreatening severe eco-nomic sanctions. TheYugoslav administra-tion under PresidentVojislav Kostunica is

resentful of what it seesas excessive foreign inter-ference. President Bushexplained to Kostunicain no uncertain terms at

their May 9 meeting that his governmentwill fall unless he fully cooperates withthe UN War Crimes Tribunal.

“As if our problems were not enough,”said Kostunica, “we have to cope with theWest’s reluctance to give us a chance tobuild our institutions and establish therule of law by allowing our judiciaries to

implement national laws and to try warcrimes suspects.”

Indeed, by even UN standards,Kostunica is quite correct. TheInternational Criminal Court’s own rulesstate that it will not step into the pictureunless a country is unwilling to conductthe prosecutions to the ICC’s satisfaction. In the case of Milosevic, Yugoslavia is notbeing afforded this courtesy, bringinginto question the ICC’s true motives.

What is Endtime Magazine? In 1968, Irvin Baxter Jr. discovered the United States

and other modern nations in the Bible. He also found theBerlin Wall in the Bible and that one day it was to be torndown, reuniting Germany, and that event would be thecatalyst to spark an international movement called the"New World Order." These things have now come to pass.

Irvin Baxter Jr., a Pentecostal minister, began EndtimeMinistries in 1986 when he wrote A Message For ThePresident, a book explaining the major prophecies of theBible which he had been teaching since 1968.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, prophetic fulfillmentaccelerated rapidly. The decision was made to launchEndtime. The purpose of the magazine is to explain theprophecies of the Bible and to show that they are nowbeing fulfilled in intricate detail.

Articles focus on the soon return of Jesus Christ, thetruth of the Bible, and the need for salvation. Endtimedoes not deal with doctrinal controversies, as valid as theymay be. This will be left to other publications. $50 plus shipping and handling
