23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time James 2:1-5 Quesons to Ponder: 1. What does the term discriminaon mean to you? Do street people frighten you? 2. The book of James promotes a society of charity and equality to all people. How does this reading address equality of treatment to people of all classes? Can you promote this equal treatment in your life, community, church? 3. James tells us that God chose the poor to be rich in faith and heirs to the kingdom that he promised to those who love him. Do the poor have a be*er chance at salvaon? How can those of us gi+ed with material goods show that we are ones who love the Lord?

Hello Parish Family! I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend and spent some extra me with family and friends! When Labor Day rolls around that means that Jimmy’s birthday is also here. He turned 10 this year...I can’t believe my baby is now in the double digits! I was doing the dishes over the weekend and let my mind roam thinking about wring this le*er. I was thinking about how much I dislike (I try not to ever use the word hate) doing dishes, but at the same me I am glad I am able to do the dishes. I can stand at the sink, I can bend over, my hands don’t hurt, and I have access to hot and cold water and as much as I dislike doing the dishes, I was glad I was able to! My mind moved on to Jimmy and his birthday. His Lego designs have been focused on airplanes for over a year now. These planes are not passenger plans, but planes for the military. He builds bombers, fighters, and cargo planes, but more of the first two. His second love currently a+er Lego plane building is learning about WWII and plane history. I feel like I am on the Jeopardy game all the me because I get quizzed on WWII and planes endlessly. Jimmy does well in school and even though he is only 10, he is already talking about colleges and career plans with a focus of going into Aeronaucal Engineering and the Air Force. Jim and I tell him that wherever he wants to go to school he can go if he stays focused. But those thoughts of him going off to school made me realize my baby would be moving on sooner than later! I realize I have a few more years of him at home and those years will be filled with many more dishes ahead, but I sll need to keep cherishing those moments with him. I always hear folks tell those with babies to cherish the moments, but you don’t hear that advice when the kids get older. Nevertheless parents with older kids sll need to cherish every moment. Kids are sll celebrang their “firsts” as they get older and their accomplishments are starng to lead them to where they are going in life. Jimmy has been reading books about WWII and planes and learning more about what he is interested in and affirming that it is a true interest and not a passing idea. He has found that art (in school) is not a favorite subject (no offense to the art teacher), but art is probably not where his career path lies. When we travel, his choices are not beaches or amusements parks, he wants to visit Pearl Harbor or the beaches of Normandy; and if we go outoftown anywhere else I need to find something about WWII or military and planes that we can check out. Quong Dr. Seuss’ book – Oh, the Places You’ll Go! I tried to cherish this birthday with Jimmy, even though it was a busy weekend and it involved more dishes. He may be 10 and sll have a few more years at home, but I realize those years will fly by; I sll need to pause and cherish moments with him. It’s amazing how real life puts “moments” in front of us to make us take note – a+er mom and dad both suffered leg trauma this past winter, I try to find more me for them. And now it’s a 10yearold’s birthday. I know our lives are busy, but I think somehow I am being reminded to slow down and appreciate the me I have with those I love! I wish everyone a “cherish the moment” kind of day! Make those moments a Prayer of Thanks! God Bless, Dawn Schepers Youth Minister
