ISIS — world’s most productive spallation neutron facility

ISISJ-PARC, LANSCE, PSI, SNS

ISIS: 800 MeV protons on to tungsten targets, 0.2 MW

TS-1, 0.16 MW, 40 pps; TS-2, 0.04 MW, 10 pps

~800 neutron experiments per year

~1600 visitors/year (~5000 visits)

ISIS accelerators wholly for neutron factories

Also muon factory

Decreasing number of target stations

TS-2 optimised for cold neutrons

Long wavelengths, big molecules

TS-2 runs at 10 pps — 100 ms between pulses

10 pps stolen from 50 pps from synchrotron

Only 40 pps left for TS-1

Beam current × 50/40

Dual harmonic RF — JWGT later

Commissioning TS-2

Difficult while running full programme to TS-1

Also CDM restrictions
