According to re- ports, the Education Department is also likely to notify the transfer list of PGTs, GTTs and PSTs before the commencement of summer vacations this year. As per the order issued on the 13th of this month, Principal of Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School here, Smt Sangeeta Chand has been posted as Deputy Education Officer of Diglipur with additional charge of GSSS Subhashgram, while Mr S Suresh Kumar, Deputy Director of Education (Perl) has been transferred to Zone-V as Deputy Education Officer, Wimberlygunj with additional charge of GSSS Wimberlygunj. Mr Sushen Mallick, Deputy Edu- cation Officer of Rangat will report to the Directorate of Education at Port Blair, while Mr Shashi Kumar, Deputy Education Officer, Diglipur has been transferred as Deputy Education Of- ficer, Mayabunder with additional charge of GSSS Pahalgaon. (File Pix) Jet Airways to wind up operations from Port Blair ROOPA LALL PORT BLAIR, MAR 16/--/ In a setback for Veer Savarkar International Airport here, airline com- pany, Jet Airways, which operates daily flight serv- ices connecting different parts of the country with Port Blair, is likely to wind up operations soon. Fac- ing issues over low passenger occupancy and human resource crunch, the airline has reportedly decided to discontinue its service in this sector from July this year. According to reports, the airline has been suffer- ing from revenue losses for the past many months in this sector. The corporate management, if sources are to be believed, has transferred or promoted staff posted at Port Blair to Chennai, Delhi and other cit- ies, while some have quit their jobs. “The airline man- agement has found losses for its operations in this sec- tor due to low passenger traffic and increasing number of low-cost airline operators. In view of this, the decision has been taken to withdraw services from the VSI airport here,” said the source. Speaking to EOI, Terminal Manager of Jet Airways, VSI Airport here, Mr Kamal said that the last flight between Port Blair and Kolkata is scheduled on March 24, while June 30 will be last Jet Airways flight taking off from Port Blair to another city in India. “The corporate of- fice has taken a decision to wind up services here from July 1 owing to revenue losses,” he confirmed. Shompens provided ration articles BALRAM SINGH CAMPBELL BAY, MAR 16/--/ A three-member group from the Shompen tribe from the East West Road 24 km settlement arrived at the Shompen Sarai here on Thursday. Staff of the Andaman Admi Janjati Vikas Samity provided them rice, pulses, salt and match boxes and later dropped them in a vehicle closer to their settlement. On Friday, another four Shompens from Govindnagar settlement approached the Andaman Admi Janjati Vikas Samity authori- ties where they were provided with ration items and other articles. One among them, suf- fering from certain skin ailment, was taken to the Primary Health Cen- tre here where doctors prescribed necessary medications. They were, later, dropped near their settlement, according to information. Seminar on ‘Socio-Legal Rights of Tribals’ begins PORT BLAIR, MAR 16/--/ The two day National Seminar on ‘Socio-Legal Rights of Tribals in Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Is- sues and challenges’ got underway in the Andaman Law College on 16 March. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Anindo Majumdar, who is also the Chair- man, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Legal Education Society, inaugurated the semi- nar as the chief guest. He reiterated the Administration’s commitment in protect- ing the rights and freedom of the tribal community in the Islands. Policy was formu- lated under PAT Act for protecting and safe- guarding the socio-economic and cultural interest of the tribal people in the Islands, he said. About socio-legal rights of the tribal, he also said that more effort is needed to sensitize the tribal about their legal rights. Laws are framed to bring in just and humane society to which the tribals are part; and we need to work for protecting their safety, social and economic interest, he said. People liv- ing or running their business, or school chil- dren using the playground are welcomed by it and its stench, surely inviting many diseases into homes. Umpteen re- quests by the harried citi- zens has fallen into the deaf ears of the Port Blair Municipal Council. Has the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan gone on a vaca- tion here, asks Sudhir, a resident of Anarkali. “The civic body is per- forming well in imple- menting the cleanliness mission in other parts of the city, but this area probably has gone out of radar.
