He said that in general hehas thought American towns tobe somewhat monotonous, lack-ing the texture and individual-ity of these In Europe. For thisreason, he said, Sanibel hasbeen a delightful surprise.

He did say that he hopesSanibel will not be sacrificedto the current tendency to turneverything to gold so that weare left starving for what wehave lost, and recommended that

we work to preserve the wildand spacious beauty of theseislands.

We agree — not only does• modern man need some breath-ing areas, but the world's great-great-grandchildren w i l l besorely pressed for wildernessand recreation areas unlesssteps are taken today to assuretheir preservation.

There are some familiarfaces at the Sea Horse Cot-tages, the two WEISIGER fam-ilies, junior and senior. WHO'S WHO ON SANIBELWell, this Is to laugh! CORT

and DAN DANIELS had fishedfor a solid week on Clam Bayouand never caught a thing. LastWednesday they were feelingparticularly defeated as dinner-

ttime approached, when suddenlyan obliging mullet jumped intotheir boat. Sanibel is obviouslya wonderful place therewasn't even a magician aboard.

Mrs. WALTER STRONG andMrs. CECIL HUDSON werehostesses to 25 members of theLadies Guild of the SanibelCommunity ChuichonThurs-day, Dec. 30, for a coffee hour.

Mr. and Mrs. CARL M,LARSEN from Woodstock, 111.,a r e wintering at PeriwinkleApts. for their third season.

The Combs's daughter, MARYPARKER, and grand-daughterBARBARA have been visitingthem for three weeks from IowaCity. Mrs. Parker is with thestate Geological Survey at theLFnlv. of Iowa, working with sub-surface stratigraphy and map-ping.

Mrs. A. JOSEPH DONAHUE(Enid P. of Sanibel Bend) saysshe has been workingfranticallysince she flew in with the Can-ada Geese Nov. 20, to lay outher collection of shells for pub-lic display again. It won't beas fancy as the L l l i a s F.Cockerill collection but was ac-quired over the years in orderto name her mother's shellsbefore she sold that fabulousthirty year collection to Cape.Ernest Kinzie.

In the meantime, people whocannot stay for the Sanibel Fairin March will have this oppor-tunity to see a wealth of thebeautiful world of underseas.Enid has about 60 feet of caseslaid out although many shellsare not in their rightful groupsas yet. She says it is no museumbut a place to Muse . . See'um.

Sir KEITH UNWIN and LadyUnwin are enjoying a breathof fresh air and a week's re-spite from diplomatic life inNew York City at the BlueDolphin. Sir Keith is a memberof The United Kingdom's per-manent mission to the UnitedNations.

Mr. and Mrs. CECIL HUD SONof Gulf Drive have returned toSanibel from a flying trip toDetroit to spend Christmas withtheir daughter and son-in-lawand four grandchildren, theHOWARD PEDERSENS of Plea-sant Ridge, Mich.

Mr, and Mrs. HALDON P.GREGORY of Decatur, Illinois, have returned once again to San- ..ibel for the next three monthsand are at Dugger's TropicalVillage.

Have you heard "Bill Cos-tello with the news?" Well,BILL and his wife, HELEN,are on Sanibel, They are stay-ing at Periwinkle Apts. and willbe here for several weeks.Bill Is convalescing from someadvanced open-heart surgery.Being a White House corre-spondent, he makes his homemost of the time in Washing-ton, 0.C. Helen is an artistand has had exhibitions of heroils at the Corcoran Galleryin Washington and earlier inTokyo, when Bill was a CBSforeign correspondent and cov-ered the occupation under Mac-Arthur. He later served as awar correspondent in Korea andtells with some humor how hechose an ammunition truck todive under in a strafing attack.

©ut back to the heart sur-gery: Bill is almost a mission-ary for this operation and itslife-saving potential. He sug-gested we watch the Reader'sDigest for an article by hisown surgeon, Don Effler, ofthe Cleveland Clinic.

Bill b l ames his friendGRIFFING BANCROFT of Cap-tiva, for bringing him underthe spell of Sanibel.
