The generosity of nature has once again enriched our lives by conferring the bounty of another shining opportunity to fulfill our dreams, realize our hopes and achieve newer heights. Build up our strength, overcome our drawbacks, forget our mistakes and begin afresh… a rebirth, to live more wisely. If time has shown it's benevolence to all of us by throwing open its precious treasure, nature has also been equally liberal in giving us immense potential to succeed, against all odds and emerge victorious, claiming the place and dignity, we dream and desire.

Dear Readers,

A bright New Year has been bestowed on us! It' the time for new beginnings, a fresh

start awaits us as the coffer of time renews its bounty, and the Earth turns over a

new page. For this, we need to weed out what is not worth keeping and plant the

seeds of the harvest we desire. We have the tendency of making grand resolutions

every year but get disappointed to see them shattered. Let's make a difference this

year, by not making any grand resolutions but quietly beginning the small changes.

We need to realize that it's the small changes that make a significant difference

which can be sustained and imbibed to be assimilated into our very being. Making a

significant improvement in our lives, making us a better person, spreading

positivity and happiness.

Even though we have the determination, we are unable to stick to our resolutions

firmly and go back to the way we were. This happens year after year and some of us

have gotten to the point where we don't even bother to make resolutions. We say

life happens, we don't have will power, or we lack discipline. These are definitely not the reasons our resolutions

don't work. They don't work because they are not inspired. We create a state of perfection that we haven't even

defined in our minds, and set goals which have no real meaning to us, usually focused on what we don't want. Then

we judge and criticize ourselves when we have strayed from our goal. We feel bad. After a few days of this, we

believe we have failed. We lose momentum. When we are in the states of blame, judgment, criticism, and

negativity, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to accomplish what is significant and of value to us. We must

take the opportunity to reflect, as it is a pragmatic, powerful action!

When we take a moment to reflect, without blame or judgment, and in a state of wonder, on significant events,

triumphs, and challenges we experienced during the year or during our lives, we often discover we've

accomplished so much more than we give ourselves credit for. We discover how much strength we have and we see

the values we embody. We realize the valuable lessons we have learned. Resolutions of being healthy, enjoying

life, choosing peace, instruct our brains to focus us on what we want, and work with us, not against us.

Achieving a goal is possible through a series of determined moments and our resolutions are fulfilled when we

have achieved a critical mass of these small moments! At the end of the day, when we take stock of how we did it,

it doesn't matter that we didn't exercise five times. It does matter that we exercised once. That is a special

moment to be recognized and celebrated toward our goal. It does matter that we are aware of the choices and

that we made one or more healthy choices, which backed by iron resolution will turn our entire life into a

harmonious and holistic saga of achievements and success.

This New Year definitely started on a positive note as we hosted two International Exchange Delegations from

South Korea, which were highly impressed with the achievements of our students. An International Education fair

was held to open new venues for your career.

May the rejuvenating freshness of the year transform our intentions into glorious action! Only then the entire New

Year will be filled with enthusiastic action, resulting in amazing achievements in every sphere.

HAVE A WONDERFUL YEAR AHEAD!

Best Wishes

Success stories that inspire....

IndianIdol DARPAN INANI

Darpan Inani (born 1994) is a prolific blind Indian chess player from Vadodara. He is the highest rated blind chess player in India with an ELO rating of 2053 as of Nov 2013.Rated 2053, he has been a bronze medalist at the 2013 World Junior Championship in Belgrade. He is the youngest player to have ever won the National blind chess championships. He is the only Indian visually impaired chess player to have ever won international first prize at the Creon open chess tournament in France in August 2018. This was a historic moment for Indian chess when a visually impaired player won first prize in international open sighted tournament in his rating category. He is also honoured with the Yuva Ratna award by All India Marwari Yuva Manch in April 2018 in Siliguri, West Bengal.

He was born to parents Satish Inani (father) and mother Vimala Inani (mother). As a young boy of 3 years, he was affected by the Steven Johnson Syndrome and lost his vision completely. He is an aspiring Chartered Accountant. He also plays the tabla and the harmonium. He has also taken vocal training in Indian classical music. He is a yellow belt in Karate.

He completed his entire schooling from a normal school, Baroda High school, Alkapuri, Vadodara. He was the only blind student there. Competing with the normal children, he seldom scored less than 90% and consistently scored a rank in top 3. He opted for commerce stream in his 11th std. Scoring 99.75 percentile in 12th std, he joined CA course. He has already cleared CA entrance and intermediates in first attempt and will be appearing for CA finals in November 2016. He completed his B.COM from Maharaja Sayajirav University. In 2015, he also appeared for CAT, an entrance exam for the most prestigious management institute in India - IIM, to pursue MBA. In his first attempt at CAT, he received calls from all the IIMs of the country barring IIM Ahmedabad. But finally, he rejected the admission offer from IIM Lucknow to pursue his CA and chess career. He plans to apply for IIM later in his career.

A few months ago, Darpan Inani appeared for his Chartered Accountancy(CA) Final exams in May 2018. He

was looking to make a come-back to competitive chess after a gap of one and a half years. A few months in, Darpan has done the unthinkable. He has become India's highest-rated visually challenged chess player, that too he is 100% blind. He has also achieved the record of being the only Indian blind player to have ever won an international prize at the Creon Open Chess tournament in France. He got this award after he increased 30 ELO rating points in a single tournament, improving his rating to 2015. He also played in two other events prior to this in Les Sables D'Olonne and Avione, two French towns. He increased a total of 46 ELO rating points from these three tournaments. In the midst, he also drew against strong opposition, who had a much higher rating than him.

What's remarkable about this young man isn't only about his outstanding results. It's more to do with his never say die attitude and demeanor. Darpan has always challenged himself and has achieved such a solid rating after competing in mostly sighted championships, proving that his disability is actually more of his ability. He has continued his passion for chartered accountancy but this hasn't stopped him from achieving greatness on the chess board. It shows his immaculate talent for multi-tasking, a skill that is hard to master. Moreover, Darpan has climbed the success ladder by his own hard work. He doesn't have any regular sponsor or coach but has still managed to go for these challenging events and has returned with great success.

His story is unique and exceptional and this doesn't stop him from helping others in his field. In May 2018, he also assisted Project Checkmate, an initiative to spread blind chess in India, with his inputs and advice. He created a video specifically for the project and its students, showing his compassion and gratitude towards the sport that he loves so much.Darpan is India's next big thing. If he could achieve his dream of becoming India's first 100% visually challenged chess International Master, one can only see the country reaching higher standards in this field. All we can now wait to see is where this lad from Vadodara, Gujarat next puts his feet onto.

GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING

08Without peace, all other dreams vanish and are reduced to ashes.- Jawahar Lal Nehru

- Contributed by Ms. Nalini Sharma

CHALLENGES IN MAKING A POSITIVE CHANGE“The distance is nothing; it is only the first step that is difficult.” This has been so rightly pointed out by Madame Marie du Deffand. Maybe the most common issue people have with personal development and making a positive change is that it stays a daydream. That they get excited and inspired, but then as those positive emotions fade and nothing really happens.Life continues as usual. It's very frustrating. One may read about personal development in pretty much all important areas of life. But it probably takes months or years to get going with making any of those positive changes. Have we ever thought, why? The reason is, it is uncomfortable. Making the changes feels so big, that is why it is easier to just keep dreaming about it as frustration builds up within. So what can we do if we get stuck in daydreams? The best solution for starting to make your dreams into reality is to go smaller. Even though grand changes and huge ambitions sound so inspiring and motivating, they are also scary. So the most important step to get started and to keep going, especially when you are new to personal development, is to remove as much pressure and expectations as you can. That is at least what has worked and still works the best for most of us. Let's see how to do it.GO FOR JUST TAKING A SMALL STEPS:It is one of the most effective ways to reduce the pressure and the expectations you may put on yourself and to start moving out of standing still or procrastination. Now, taking just one small step and focusing on that is for instance a great way to become productive at school or at work once again and it can be used in just about any area in life. If you want to become kinder and improve your relationships then just take one small step by giving someone a genuine compliment. If you want to become a better listener have just one conversation today where you focus as much effort as you can on learning more about the person in front of you, and truly be there as best as you can and nowhere else in your mind. If you like, then tomorrow you can take the same small action and just focus on that. If you want to take the first step and get started with something then do it today. 'Someday' so easily becomes never or at least a day several years into the future. Don't make that mistake, and if the first small step you come up with still seems too big to take then think of an even smaller step. Be kind to yourself, in this way and make the start as easy on yourself as you can.

Go for just taking care of today:When you feel overwhelmed, tired and just want to quit or relapse into your old and more negative habits then sit down for a minute. Breathe. Then narrow your focus greatly. Don't look forward because then you'll see all the things you have to do to reach your goal or to create a new habit. Instead, go smaller and focus on just taking care of today. Nothing more. Tomorrow will come in time. And then you will take care of that today too. Keep this narrow focus daily. Sure, you may have to do some planning. Do that early in the week or day. Then shrink your focus again to make your work and life lighter and more effortless.

Focus on just the small steps and on today and soon you will have travelled quite a distance with the desired change in your life becomes a part of yourself.

THE MAGIC OF MICHAEL JORDAN“I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying.” - Michael Jordan. Here is how the legendry Basket ball star- Michael Jordan magically turned his failure into success! Jordan suffered his first setback in his sophomore year when he was left out of the varsity basketball team. The reason? He was only 5'9” at that time. His taller classmate Leroy Smith had won the last spot on the team.

He made up his mind that he would never have to face a similar situation ever again and started practicing every day after that, making it a point to take out time for his practice daily without fail. He soon shot up to 6’3”, made to the team the next year and never had to look back after that.

From being a part of two gold-medals winning teams at the Olympics to winning NBA's Most Valuable Player Award five times in his career, Jordan dominated the sports field for more than a decade in the '90s.

Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination.Contributed by: Priyamvada Chauhan XII S3/3589

SPARKAfter every autumn comes the spring,

And dusks are followed by dawn,

Focus on it just once again,

And success shall shower upon.

A diamond cuts a diamond,

And the zenith is your aim,

There is time, train hard,

So that tomorrow and future,

Is not the same.

As the mind ticks like a clock,

And you have still to wait,

Pull up your socks and work hard, You yourself make

your fate,

It’s your spirit which enchanting you.

In the ocean of eternity,

Just take a dive,

Be confident and press the trigger,

And make your fear dive,

Every ferocious dangerous fire,

Was earlier only a spark,

So build the lightening in you,

That tears apart the dark.

ALGEBRIC PROBLEM OF LIFELife is an algebric problem,

Where 'x' is our aim,

And substitution of 'x' means,

To reach our aim.

First decide what is to be done,

Whether to factorize or to solve,

Think what is to be done,

For only one chance is there.

If it's to factorize,

Think, which one?

If it's to solve,

Solve it cleverly.

If wrong it goes, don't lament over it,

Learn from the mistakes,

For mistakes are the manure,

To the plants of success.

Strive and strive hard,

For reaching our aim of 'x',

Yes, life is an algebraic problem,

Solve it and relax.

FIREFire is the heat,When it is in stoves,It cooks and relishes. When it is in stomach,It rebukes and rebels. When it is in brain,It innovates and invents,When it is in heart,It loves and hates,When it is in thoughts,It revolts and brings changes.Fire is the heat,When it is controlled,It warms and flourishes,But when it is uncontrolled,It kills and destroys,Love fire but do not play with it.

ACCOUNTANCY IN LIFEMy parents are my opening stock,What comes I debit,What goes I credit. My birth is my purchased account,My ideas are my assets,My problems are my liabilities.Happiness is my profit,Sorrow is my debit,Soul is my goodwill.Heart is my fixed assets,Duties are my hidden adjustments,Character is my capital.Bad habits, I always depreciate,Good things, I always appreciate,Patience is my interest. My thinking is my cash balance,Behaviour is my journal entry,My aim is to tally the balance sheet.

HARDWORKHard work, hard work,Nothing but hard work,Why are you so tired,Just get up and succeed. Why are you the only key to success?Success is tough to have, But with you I can only succeed,Hard work, hard work and hard work.

Good judgments comes from experience and a lot of it come from bad judgments

Contributed by: Shaurya Jaiswal XII S211259

SAVE EARTHOur forests are dying,Our lakes are drying,Mother Earth is crying,And we must start trying.Trying to save our Earth,Giving back its worth,Towards a new day of Rebirth!!!Join the millions of people worldwide,To begin to live with pride,While waste begins to subside,And conservation is taken in stride.Use paper not plastic bags,Recycle clothing to us as rags,Re-do, repair, re-dream, buy green,Walk or share a ride, conserve the sheen.Read a book or play a game,Live in peace without shame,Begin today and do not delay,Mother Earth needs you to pray.

RECIPE FOR HAPPINESSTake two cups of patience,Two spoons of love and understanding,Two bowls of generosity,And add to it a dash of laughter.Put all these in the bowl of your heart,Add plenty of faith and mix well,Sprinkle sweetness and kindness,Serve over a period of life-time.And serve to everyone you must It will relieve you from life's stress,This is the recipe for happiness,And happiness is our life's quest.

CHANGEBy changing your thinking,You change your beliefs,When you change your beliefs,You change your expectations. When you change your expectations,You change your attitude,When you change your attitude,You change your behaviour. When you change your behaviour,You change your performance,When you change your performance,You change your life!

PARENTS' WISHŸ “On the day when you see us old, weak and weary,

have patience and try to understand us.”Ÿ “If we get dirty while eating and can't dress on our

own, please bear with us and remember the times your Mom spent feeding you and dressing you up.”

Ÿ “If when we speak to you, we repeat the same things over again… do not interrupt us. Listen to us. When you were small, your Mom had to read to you the same story a thousand and one times until you went to sleep.”

Ÿ “When we don't want to have a shower, neither shame us not scold us… Remember… when your Mom had to chase you with thousand excuses to get you to the shower?”

Ÿ “Help us to walk. Help us to live the rest of our life with love and dignity. We will pay you with a smile and by the immense love we have always had for you in own hearts.”

Ÿ “And when some day we say to you that we don't want to live any more, that we want to die… Do not get angry… for one day you will understand our pains. Try to appreciate that our age is not just lived but survived.”

LOCKED DOORSTime comes when due to confusions,We tend to cry,At this stage we should tell our heart,To again and again try.The winds will keep blowing,Still never is the sea,Shall your dreams remain flowing,Sorrows and disasters will never leave you.In this world of love and hatred,You just try to be true,Tears will roll down from your eyes,But never let anyone hear your cries.Your path may be stony,Never stop till you reach you destiny,Facing the world should be your mission,Make yourself strong enough.Have the courage to fight back,Never let the confidence within your lack,This journey is not easy,To live your life makes yourself busy.Do not lose your trust,Don't ever let your faith turn into dust,Why be tensed for your bad scores,Get up and open the closed doors.

WEEK!!!Sunday is the fun day,Why are you so far.Monday is the new beginning,Everyone is fresh and brimming.Tuesday is the study day,Study and study all the way.Wednesday is a returned day,When every one wishes for a holiday.Thursday is like another day,Where we shall make a lot of hey.Friday seems to be a fearful day,With everyone finding a hiding way.Saturday is the happiest day,Everyone is happy to have this weekend day.

LOVELIEST OF TREESLoveliest of trees, the cherry now,Is hung with bloom along the bough,And stands about the woodland ride,Wearing white for Eastertide. Now of my three score years and ten,Twenty will not come again,And take from seventy springs a score,It only leaves me fifty more. And since to look at things in bloom,Fifty springs are little room,About the woodlands I will go,To see the cherry hung with snow.

SCHOOLSchool is the best thing in my life ever,If I can, I will leave the school never,The teachers, the classmates and the classroom,And chattering, running, fighting, big bang boom.In the canteen, burger, sandwich,And lemonade a glass,And if we come late after the break,We have to stand outside the class.Functions, competitions and sports meet,All of us want each other to beat,Exams, tests and marks,Some students fail to score and some spark. This is the fun and joy of school,Where the way of studying is very cool,It is the embodiment of a preacher, And holds the key to our future.

TEN WORDSThe most selfish one letter 'I' ……………... Avoid it.Most satisfactory two letters 'We'.............Use it.Most poisonous three letters 'Ego'............ Kill it.Most used four letters 'Love'................ Value it.Most pleasing five letters 'Smile'.............. Keep it.Fastest spreading six letters 'Rumour'.... Ignore it..Hardworking seven letters 'Success' ......Achieve it.Most enviable eight letters 'Jealousy'... Distance it.Most powerful nine letters 'Knowledge'..... Acquire it.Most divine ten letters 'Friendship'...... Maintain it.

SCIENCEScience, a birth of thought,Answers to question for us it has sought,Without it humans would be a dumb lot,Minds and bodies all would start to rot.Science, Maths, English,Till now, from the start of General Knowledge,Have all given us something to learn,Knowledge, the greatest wealth to be earned. From Earth to mars,Given resources though scare,It has led us everywhere,From the inside of an atom to far of atmosphere.Intelligence, one could say a side effect,Our minds though far from perfect,But still they have advanced a lot,From long ago battles that were fought.

THE TEACHER IS ABOVE GODŸ The teacher is above God. God gives life, but it's the

teacher who imparts the strength to live it.Ÿ God had made the body, but it's the teacher who

moulds it.Ÿ God has given feet, but it's the teacher who teaches us

where to place them.Ÿ God has given legs, but it's the teacher who teaches us

to walk.Ÿ God has given hands, but it's the teacher, who teaches

us how to use them.Ÿ God has made people, but it's the teacher who teaches

us to get associated with them.Ÿ God had made the world, but it's the teacher who

teaches us how to serve in it.Ÿ Teachers are the sculptors of the nation.

Here comes the end of my poem with a message, 'Listen to your teachers, it will certainly pay you in long run.’
