History of Mintu Investment GroupWhat was once a family owned candy manufacturing micro-business, founded by Lemma Wakene and Aynalem Ayele as now become a huge plastic shoe manufacturing enterprise today under the name Ayni In-dustries Plc. Since its establishment in 2003, the company has sold more than 8 million pairs of plastic shoes and is recognized as a low price plastic shoes manufacturer.

The company has grown to diversify the business in different sectors. In 2008, came Wakene Food Complex that produces quality wheat flour that has grown to become a household brand in Addis Ababa, Nekemte and in Gambela.

In 2012, Mintu Plast Plc was established with a capital of 13 million ETB, aimed to produce PVC compound to supply raw materials to our sister company Ayni Industries and to produce better and fair priced PVC compounds for shoe and sole, PVC pipe and profiles, Garden hose suppliers. In 2015, Mintu Plast Plc started manufacturing PET preforms and caps for mineral water, edible oil and other liquid product manufacturers.

In line with progress, the investment group raised a capital of 40,000,000 ETB to venture into the real estate business primarily fo-cused on constructing apartment complexes under the name Menoria Real Estate Plc to offer affordable housing for middle income clients.

It has been a long time coming that we were plan-ning to publish our first investment group company profile. Much to do about everything, we never cease relentlessly from serving our people with excellence service.

From the onset of our first business venture, we Inherently forecasted our in-vestment portfolio to be focused in three key areas; manufacturing, export and real estate. These three areas constitute the Ethiopian landscape on a two-way street interchanging the needs of the society with the investor’s contribution.

It gives us great serenity to be in this position to offer profound service to our country and people in our chosen investment areas. Manufacturing and export has always been beneficial to the economy by providing a sustainable livelihood. Real Estate on the other hand, plays an important role to provide housing for the growing population and to rekindle social values.

Now we stand 15 years in business and has grown in stature, where do we go from here? We will continue to find innovative ways to manufacture quality plas-tic shoes and soles, PVC compounds, PET preforms and caps, wheat flour and specialty products; export agricultural products to more countries and build af-fordable apartment complexes. Our plans to increase our companies’ production capacity runs parallel to our vision, and we pride ourselves to have sustained loyal stakeholders.

Our state-of-the-art machinery and equipment at our factory has the capacity to produce 704,000 pieces of PET preforms and more than 1,200,000 caps per day. The company currently has a capacity to produce 12000 tons of PVC compound per annum. Wakene Food Complex currently produces 100 tons of wheat flour daily.

In rural Ethiopia, hundreds of villages lack a function-al primary and secondary school and access to clean drinking water. Mintu Group strongly believes that every citizen has the duty to help underprivileged young Ethi-opians get the proper education they deserve and live a healthy nourishing lifestyle.

Due to lack of clean drinking water, families regularly drink filthy water from muddy puddles or nearby rivers - often the same used for washing dishes and sanitation - leading to cholera, malaria, and other debilitating diseas-es. Women and children often travel miles from home to collect water leaving them vulnerable to assaults and truancy from school.

To help solve these concerns, we have constructed schools and water wells around our facilities to give free clean drinking water and education to the surround-ing community. Our wells are strategically built near schools to encourage families to settle nearby and send their children to school. Our contribution of free clean drinking water has dramatically improved the health of families in the community.

Along with Ayni Industries Plc, Wakene Food Complex is also a defining factor of our suc-cess that has propelled us to venture into the export of agricultural products. Established in 2008, the company continues to supply quality wheat flour to the local market mostly in Addis Ababa, Nekemte and Gambela.

The company now produces pasta, macaroni and flour for the local and international mar-kets. Our goal to achieve export standard products, maximum customer satisfaction and to increase our distribution network has lead us to continuously upgrade our machineries and equipment, which are ISO 9001:2015 certified. We are planning to expand our production line to include export standard biscuits and other products that are ISO 22000:2005 certified in the near future.
