• Receive the license(s) in a license pack file.

13

Page 14: isod-inst.pdf

LicensingLicensing PrerequisitesPrerequisitesTo configure license(s) and obtain a license pack file, you need the following:

• The Sales Order Number (SON) for the software you want to install.

• Web access and an account on PTC.com. Register at http://www.ptc.com/appserver/common/account/basic.jsp.

• The Physical Address of the Ethernet adapter on your Arbortext IsoDrawcomputer. This address is the same as the CPU ID in the license configurationprogram on the PTC.com Arbortext Support Center website—and the Host IDin the Arbortext IsoDraw installer program.

To display the Physical Address of the Ethernet adapter (CPU ID or Host ID)for your system:

1. From the Windows StartStart menu, choose RunRun.

2. In the RunRun dialog box, type cmd in the OpenOpen text box.

3. In the Windows command interpreter window, enter ipconfig /all atthe command prompt. The Physical Address is listed underEthernet adapter Local Area Connection.

AboutAbout LicensingLicensing

For each copy of Arbortext IsoDraw software you plan to install, you must:

• Configure a license on the PTC Arbortext Support Center website, http://www.ptc.com/support/arbortext.htm, using your Sales Order Number (SON) andHost ID (also called CPU ID). See Configuring Licenses on page 17 fordetailed instructions.

• Obtain a license pack file containing your configured license(s). The licensepack file comes as a text file attached to an email from PTC LicenseManagement ([email protected]). You save the attached license pack file to afolder on the computer you will install Arbortext IsoDraw on. See ReceivingYour License Pack on page 18 for detailed instructions.

14 Installing Arbortext® IsoDraw®

Page 15: isod-inst.pdf

AboutAbout LicenseLicense TypesTypes

Arbortext IsoDraw can run using either a locked or floating license.

• A locked license allows Arbortext IsoDraw to run on one authorized computer. The locked license is stored in a license file on that computer.

• A floating license allows Arbortext IsoDraw to run on any computer connectedto a “license server” computer on your network. The license file on the licenseserver can contain multiple floating licenses. This allows multiple computerson the network to run Arbortext IsoDraw concurrently—up to the total numberof floating licenses available.

See License Types on page 15 for more information the different licensing typesavailable for Arbortext IsoDraw software.

NoteNote

You can also set up Arbortext IsoDraw to run with either a locked or a floatinglicense if you specify Both license typesBoth license types during installation. (See Select LicenseType on page 35.)

FloatingFloating LicenseLicense PrerequisitesPrerequisites

The following prerequisites apply if you plan to install Arbortext IsoDraw 7.2software with a floating license:

• The floating license server must have the FLEXnet™ license managementsoftware installed on it. This software is in the FlexLM folder on yourArbortext IsoDraw 7.2 CD and in the Arbortext IsoDraw 7.2 download Zipfile.

Run \FlexLM\setup.exe to install this software on the license server. Seethe FLEXnet Licensing End User Guide for instructions. (Installing FLEXnetlicense management software requires administrator rights on the license servercomputer.)

• Your Arbortext IsoDraw software must be have a working network connectionto the license server computer using the port number you specify.

LicenseLicense TypesTypesWhen you install Arbortext IsoDraw, you must specify the type of license you willbe using. The licensing options are:

• Locked licenseLocked license

• Floating license, managed by a license server machineFloating license, managed by a license server machine

• Both licensing typesBoth licensing types

Licensing 15

Page 16: isod-inst.pdf

Each licensing type is described below.

LockedLocked LicenseLicense

A locked license enables you to run Arbortext IsoDraw on one authorizedcomputer. The locked license is stored in a license file on that computer and islocked to that computer’s Host ID (also called the CPU ID; i.e., the physicaladdress of the Ethernet adapter in the computer). You can run an unlimited numberof instances of Arbortext IsoDraw on the one authorized computer.

If you select Locked licenseLocked license during installation, you must specify the license filepath.

FloatingFloating LicenseLicense

Allows multiple computers (license clients) on the network to runArbortext IsoDraw concurrently—up to the total number of floating licensesavailable. The computers running Arbortext IsoDraw must be connected to thelicense server machine.

When you install Arbortext IsoDraw with a floating license, you must specify thecommunications port number and license server name (Host Name) in the formPORT@SERVERNAME; for example, 7788@aberdeen.

Before you install Arbortext IsoDraw with a floating license, verify the followingwith your network administrator:

• The port number your Arbortext IsoDraw system will use to communicate withthe license server.

• The Host Name of the license server machine on your network.

• Installation of the FLEXnet license management software on the license servermachine.

The FLEXnet license management software and installer program, setup.exe, are in the FlexLM folder on the Arbortext IsoDraw 7.2 CD or in thedownload Zip file. After the FLEXnet software is installed, it must beconfigured to recognize your Arbortext IsoDraw computer as a floating licenseclient. See the FLEXnet Licensing End User Guide for license managementsoftware installation and configuration instructions. You can download thisguide from the Reference Documents section of the PTC.com ArbortextSupport Center website.

NoteNote

The license server can also have an Arbortext IsoDraw 7.2 floating license clientinstalled on it. In this case, the license server name is the Host Name of thecomputer you are installing the Arbortext IsoDraw software on.

16 Installing Arbortext® IsoDraw®

Page 17: isod-inst.pdf

NoteNote

If you installed FLEXnet license management software for Arbortext IsoDraw 7.0or 7.1, you can use this same license management software for Arbortext IsoDraw7.2. The license management software for 7.0, 7.1 and 7.2 is the same.

BothBoth LicensingLicensing TypesTypes

Selecting Both licensing typesBoth licensing types during installation enables Arbortext IsoDraw to runwith either a locked license or a floating license. You must configure both types oflicenses; i.e., you must enter the license file path for the locked license and thePORT@SERVERNAME for the floating license. (See details in Locked License onpage 16 and Floating License on page 16.)

The email message may contain licensinginstructions for several PTC software products, depending on the content of thelicense pack file.

Save the attached license pack file, lm_xxxxxxxx_standard.txt, and notewhere you saved it.

• If you install Arbortext IsoDraw with a locked license, you will need to specifythe license pack file location during installation.

• If you install Arbortext IsoDraw with a floating license, you will not need tospecify the license pack file location during installation. However, your systemadministrator will need to know where to find it in order to configure theFLEXnet license management software before you install theArbortext IsoDraw software.
