Villanueva) PLAI-STRLC initiated a post NBW activity, storytelling and art workshop session in one of the Gawad Kalinga sites at Yolanda Village, Brgy Jasaan, Sta Cruz, Laguna from 8:00 to 5:00 pm last December 7, 2005. The objective of this activity is to help promote the love for reading in children through educating the family and the community as well. The storytellers were Ms Lou Abad and Ms Thess Flores each narrating “Ang Barumbadong Bus” and “Tembong Mandarambong” respectively. A Christmas card making contest was conducted after the story telling session. Three (3) winners were selected from the cards created by the children ages 6 below, with the assistance from some UPLB librarians and Laguna Provincial Library staff who joined the outreach activity. Children and guests where treated to a “face painting” session while the cards are being judged with Dr Joy Gordoncillo and Ms Maan Ingua as artists. Nera as the Resource Speaker last December 9, 2005 from 1:00pm - 5:00 p.m. at San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite, Manila.-Cavite Blvd., Sta. Cruz, Cavite City. Dir. Nera is a member of the Board for Librarians of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and presently the Director of Libraries of the Lyceum of the Philippines. The seminar aims to tackle relevant issues on the essential role of librarianship as a profession in developing the intellectual capacity of the citizenry and to share and discuss issues that are affecting our very existence. Also, during that occasion, the new set of Board of Trustees & Officers was inducted into office. 2005 NATIONAL BOOK WEEK CELEBRATION 2005 NATIONAL BOOK WEEK CELEBRATION 2005 NATIONAL BOOK WEEK CELEBRATION 2005 NATIONAL BOOK WEEK CELEBRATION The following activities were held during the 71st National Book Week celebration with the theme Kultura ng Kultura ng Kultura ng Kultura ng Pagbabasa'y Palaganapin, Aklat at Aklatan Pagyamanin Pagbabasa'y Palaganapin, Aklat at Aklatan Pagyamanin Pagbabasa'y Palaganapin, Aklat at Aklatan Pagyamanin Pagbabasa'y Palaganapin, Aklat at Aklatan Pagyamanin (Developing the Culture of Reading Through Books and Libraries), last November 24-30 2005: • 24 November - FunWalk and Book Character Parade around Rizal Park, Mass, and Opening of Exhibit. Opening ceremonies will be held at the National Library with NCCA Chairman Ambeth Ocampo as keynote speaker. • 25-29 November - Different library associations, including ASLP and PNU-LISAA have lined up various activities in line with the celebration. • 30 November - PLAI Fellowship luncheon at Manila Hotel with Joey Lina as guest speaker. The event will be capped with this year's PLAI awardees: Belen Vibar, Milagros Ong, Teresita Moran, Loreto Serina, Miguel Cobaria, and Fe Abeleda-Robles. The National Book Week is an annual event sponsored by The National Library in cooperation with Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI). The celebration was had Thelma Kim as NBW Chairman with Co-Chairman Lourdes Soriano.
