Welcome!
ISSN Leader MeetingOctober 27, 2011
Brandon Wiley, ISSN Director
Keeping Perspective“Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It
means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.”
“Just for today, no matter where I am going, or what I am doing,
or who I am doing it with, it is my intention to focus on the
positive.” - Lucy MacDonald
“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one
after another.” - Walter Elliott
“Life is not a matter of having good cards, but of playing a poor
hand well.” - Robert Louis Stevenson
“When faced with the reality of how fragile life is, it’s amazing
how priorities can change in an instant. In the end, we’re only
as good as the relationships we build, maintain and cherish.”
What a difference a year makes… The Network has expanded from 24 to 34 schools
(Serving nearly 16,000 students - 64% are low-income students,

In June 2010, eleven ISSN schools had graduating classes.

college going rate was 94%, of which over 70% went to four-
year colleges or universities

Badges for Learning
Asia Society has submitted a grant application to explore
the development of “badges” for students to earn that
signify that they are globally competent and college-
ready…
Likewise, we can offer a badge system to allow teachers to
demonstrate they know how to teach for global
competence…
This may lead to further discussion about an ISSN Diploma
ISSN NING
The NING has undergone a redesign to
accomplish several goals…
1.) Make it more user-friendly and intuititive
2.) Encourage greater collaboration, sharing and
communication
3.) Serve as a “one stop shop” for information, resources
and ideas
4.) Facilitate “anytime, anywhere” professional
development and opportunities to “meet”
The Future of the Network…
As we move forward, we face challenges to sustain,
remain viable and effective…
Your continued leadership, feedback and commitment to
the ISSN Mission will be more important than ever.
Change is inevitable.
Thank you for sharing your gifts with the ISSN -
you are the network; the network is you.
