Dear Students, Teachers and Parents,

The season of festivities is almost here and I wish you all

a wonderful, safe and joyous time with family and

friends.

At AVV and AB we continue our work to ensure that all

students receive a high-quality education within safe,

caring and inclusive learning environments. We also

look forward to strengthen partnerships with parents as

this is essential to achieving our goals: student

achievement and their well-being. Good schools

become better schools when they are connected to

parents and families. We encourage parents to find

positive and meaningful ways to engage with your

child's school through various events and activities

planned by our wonderful team.

The year so far has been one of great achievements. It

gives me great pleasure to share some of them with you.

On the academic front it has been a year of stellar

success with splendid AISSE (10th) and AISSCE (12th)

results and, laurels coming our way from the Ministry

How does it feel like being elected as the head boy? It's a great feeling. I am thankful to the students and teachers for giving me this opportunity. I would like to fulfill all my duties sincerely.

Why do you think the students elected you?I am quite friendly and the students know me well so they elected me.

What do you think are the qualities needed for being the head boy?I think they are leadership skills and knowledge of school rules.

What changes do you think, as a head boy, can be brought about in the school? As a Head Boy, I think that not only giving orders but being actively involved in what the Student Council does is needed. This can improve the discipline level as there is still scope for improvement.

Are the duties of Head Boy a burden for you, considering the fact that you are in 12th grade? No, the school is giving privileges to 12th grade students such as being able to go home early. Also, the Student Council is a great help.

Head Boy - Shlok Gandhi

How does it feel like being elected as the Head girl?It makes me feel confident of myself and responsible towards my duties.

Why do you think the students elected you?Students connect with me and I am approachable so students feel free to talk to me. So, they elected me.

What are the qualities needed in a Head Girl? You need to be a good leader. Also, this post requires patience and really good listening skills.

How does it feel like leading the Student Council? It is a very zestful feeling to lead a council where everybody is helpful and cooperative.

Are you satisfied with the work you are doing?Yes, I am satisfied. But of course there is scope for improvement as you need to be constantly evolving.

What do you think can be changed in the school? There should be more coordination and cooperation amongst everyone in the school and people should be religious towards the school philosophy.

Head Girl - Harashruti J. Mistry

How does it feel like being elected as the Sports Captain?J: I am very glad. I am happy that people believe in me

and voted for me.

P: I am very elated and was on cloud nine on the day of results.

Why do you think you are eligible for the post?J: We will talk about each other. I think Priyanshi has good leadership qualities and she is also a very organized person. And she is good at handball.

P: Jinesh is amazing at almost all sports and excels in all of them.

What do you think can be changed about the sports scenario in the school?J and P: So far, so great. And as of now, the things are

running smoothly. But then, there is always scope for improvement. A few minor changes could be made here and there. For example, when school teams win, all the participants' names should be announced rather than just the team's as a whole. We would also like to introduce a few sports.

What can be done to make more and more students active in sports?J and P : It is not like students are not involved in sports. Most of the students are brilliant in the sports they play. But there are a limited number of students who can go as a school team to tournaments. So, most students don't get a chance.

Are you satisfied with the work you are doing?J: Yes, I am. All teams that I have made so far have achieved victory and have made the school proud.

P: I am also happy with the work done so far. But then, sky is the limit and I will try to improve my quality of work.

A MOVIE WHICH INSPIRED ME

Watching movies for me is a fun experience. I am fond of watching movies and spending time with my family. They make you think out of the box. Some of the movies act as an inspiration to me. One of the movies which inspired me a lot is Mary Kom.Mary Kom is a biopic of the five times World Boxing Champion M C Mary Kom. The movie shows a lot of things which inspired me and gave me lessons for life. Her endless love for boxing in the movie inspired me to be very dedicated towards any work. She was born in a poor family with no facilities. With her hardwork, patience and dedication, she achieved great success in life. After facing so many problems in her life, she never lost her focus. To become successful in life, patience and hard work is required. She is one of the greatest inspiration to me.

I LOVE MY PARENTS

We are nothing without our parents because they take care of our health, provide the best education and fulfil our basic needs. Mother is mother, she has no match. Father can be our best guide and philosopher.I love my parents very much because they are the best mama and papa in the world. Every child must respect and honour their parents.

Maitri - 2 A

I love my parents because –They take care of me.They give me food. They bring gifts for me.They help me with my work. They play with me.THEY LOVE ME.

Riya Parikh - 1 B

I love my parents because they always protect me and my little sister. My parents always help me with my studies and also help me find answers to my questions. My father is my best friend and I share all my secrets with him. He makes me laugh when I am sad and also plays with me. My mother is strict but is also sweet as she dances and sings with me like a friend and encourages me when I am upset.I am thankful to god that I have such lovely parents and hope that I will always make them feel proud of me.

Ananya Nayar - 1 B

I love my parents because of various reasons. They gave me birth and my identity. They are my first teachers. They give me whatever I need. They love me very much. They take care of me. I want to become a person with close resemblance to my parents when I grow up. They take me to school so that I can study and become a good person. I really love them very much.

Alisav Sharma - 1 A

I love my parents because they are the best part of my life that are always with me and my sister. We can share our feelings (sad or happy) with them. My parents are like my best friends. They guide me what is wrong or right. If I am scared or afraid of anything they help me to overcome my fear. They always show me the right way. They appreciate me for the things which I try to do the best. Sometimes if I am weak in some field they motivate me to do and say that yes I can do it. With the support of my parents I can do a lot. So I love my parents very much and thank god for giving me such loving and caring parents.

IF I WERE A BIRD WHAT WOULD I DO

If I were a bird, I would fly very high in the sky. From the sky the world is so beautiful!! There is so much peace in the endless sky. I will fly as much as I can. It's so joyful!! I could see many beautiful places from the sky like mountains, buildings from up, sometimes rainbows and many more such things. From the sky men and women look like small toys.In the cities there are so many rules; traffic rules for humans. To travel from one place to another they need passports, visas and tickets. But not for me! I would just keep flying across many countries, crossing the borders and going high and high. While flying in the sky I don't see the boundaries made by man. I see just, one world. I would like to see peace and love on the earth just like it is in the sky. Oh no!! I forgot that I am a human.

Jwalin Diwanji - 4 B

Birds are god’s gift to nature. They are one of the most beautiful creations of god. They are of many different colours and sizes. And I like to watch birds and hear their sound in my free time. So, if I were a bird it would be like my dream come true. I would be able to do everything which I cannot do now. I would be free of all my problems like waking up early in the morning, studies and going to school. I would love to fly high up in the sky over the mountains and under the clouds. I would sit on the top most branch and see the whole world and all the small creatures . What fun it would be to become a bird!!

Dhruvi Parikh - 3 B

Birds are wonderful creatures by god. There are thousands of species of birds that exist in the world. This makes them very interesting .i like to imagine what it would be to be a bird The first thing I would do if I become a bird, is fly wherever and whenever I want. I will spread my wing and fly as high as I could, I would feel the wind in the skies, would pass through the beautiful cloud and feel the warmth of the sun to be able to actually do it ,would be the most beautiful gift I would ever have in my life. The second thing I would is to travel and adventure the world. Birds are able to see the land and sea, thousands of feet below them. Seeing the world differently and living life differently are good things to be experienced.

Bhavya Vaid - 3 B

I would like to be a small, beautiful bird like a parrot. If I were a parrot, I would go to different places. I would know about human life. I would go over an ocean or a sea and I would see fishes and crabs and other water animals. I would see rivers flowing down and the big, big mountains like the great Himalayas. I would play with the snow. If I would go to a fairyland, I would meet fairies and play with them. There would be a river beside a forest. I will build my nest on the top branch of a tall tree. I will see everything around me from my nest. I will live happily with nature.

Dishna Patel - 3 B

If I were a bird I would go and fly high in the sky. And touch the stars that humans can't do. I would go to Dubai and fly higher than the Burj Khalifa. Though I am so small, the whole world would be so small for me because I am seeing everything from so high up. I would go home and make other bird sounds.

Tejasvi Nanavati - 3 B

INTERNET- MY VIEWS

Not only adults, teenagers but nowadays the 12 year old children also have their mobiles and because of mobiles they have their Facebook and Whatsapp accounts for themselves. Many a times it happens that the children do not discuss their feelings with their parents and they do not even care about what their parents are doing for them. If they are sad they will discuss it with their friends on Facebook but, if we tell them to sit with their parents, they do not even bother and instead they will say, “If we chat with our friends we enjoy but with our parents we get bored.”I agree that it makes communication easy and it also has many advantages but more than advantages, internet has disadvantages like the one described above. One more disadvantage is that many people are trapped in fraud cases and mostly it happens that the people who do fraud are many times not caught even after doing police complaint. So I prefer not to have Facebook and Whatsapp account, especially for children below 18.

MY FAVOURITE PET ANIMAL

A pet is a living thing that can make us smile or laugh by watching their behaviour. There are many kinds of pets depending on individual choices like cats, dogs, rabbits, fish etc. It can make people interested, mostly kids. When we look after our pet it can make us a responsible person. My favourite pet is fish. I have 3 mini sharks which are black and white in colour. Their names are Nimu, Liku, and Kallu. I have one green spotted fish named Tinu. We have kept them in an aquarium.I talk to my pets sometimes, but it cannot reply and it cannot hear me. I feel that it conveys its feelings through actions. I wish my pet could talk. I could share my feelings, thoughts and secrets too. We should take good care of our pets. I feed them fish food every day and help my father clean the aquarium.Pets are such amazing creatures. They are wonderful creations of god. Playing with them helps to reduce our everyday stress and its great fun to be with them. I love my pet fish. Though they are not colourful, they are lovely and fun to watch.

After the scorching heat I love the first rain drops on my body. I like pitter patter sound of the rain. It sounds to me as the poetry of god. I like the wet smell of the soil. Rain waters the plant and gives good wash to the trees .I like to play with my friends in the rain. We enjoy floating our paper boats in the puddles. I like the thunder sound and the lightning in the sky during the rain. I love to watch a beautiful rainbow after the rain stops.

FEAR

A few seconds left. 4,3,2,1! Tick-tick, time is up. On some faces it was an expression of pleasure. On some faces it was clear despair, and, on some faces, it was a 'just in time' expression. Now, this is what comes to our mind when we think about exams. Actually, how do we express exams? Frightful, boring, a thing that increases our blood pressure and so on. But, why are we afraid of exams? Either it is because we don't get anything into our brains, or there is a lot of work. If we don't get anything then it is our disinterest to learn. If we are determined then we will understand that it is no rocket science. And, if there is lot of work, then don't worry, because if we are determined, then it is nothing too much. So, in both situations, it is important to have determination. Exams are the steps to success. If you don't get good marks, then don't be upset because there is always a next time. But not in the case of school exams. In school exams, we have to do well. It is a one time, achievement. So now buck up! By the time this reaches you, exams would have been long over and forgotten. But for now, wish you best of luck!

“ DON’T MIND IT’S A MIND AFTER ALL”.

Mind has a power which few can tap into. A vessel can be filled by anyone but kindling a fire requires patience, which is a rare quality.Mind is an expanse that is too vast to be crammed. But ironically, this vastness is quite limited and needs to be expanded through experience, knowledge and introspection. A larger fire gives a better view in the darkness and in the same way an expansive mind provides a wider perspective of the world, but a filled vessel reflects only from the outside. The mind is like a limited entity which can only reflect, never assimilate.Hence, we must be ready to wait, to possess a mind powerful enough to achieve than to cut by cramming things in, like a vessel. Mind is like a fire that burns the fuel of knowledge to grow and pierce the darkness and illuminate the paths of not just oneself but also others.“Flames Pierce The Darkness With Their Own Light But Vessels Need Others To Even Be Visible”.

ADVANCED COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY

Today the computer is used in every field and has made our day to day tasks very easy, but there are some advantages and some disadvantages. Computer has made a vital impact on our society and has changed our way of life. Nowadays, technology has developed. Big computers were there before, but now touch technology has been introduced which is very fast. Internet is playing the main role in the advancement of technology. It has made life easy. We can do banking, transactions, online shopping, book tickets of trains, planes , search information and see images and videos. We can also perform many other things. Smart phone is also a useful invention.Technology is great, but if we use it in a positive way. We should not misuse technology. If a person uses technology in a negative way, he/she would be directed to a wrong path. Instead he/she should use it in a useful way. It would lead to the betterment of the society. Technology can be perceived as a tool for helping or destroying people.

IMPLICATION OF NO DETENTION POLICY

Under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, there is a 'No Detention Policy' upto class VIII in order to achieve the goal of Universalisation of Elementary Education. This is also to increase the retention of kids by the way of 'no pass-fail' system. But is this actually correct? Grades VI, VII and VIII are the building blocks of classes IX and X. And if all the students are passed upto grade VIII without their base being clear, then isn't the quality of human resource generated being compromised upon? Recently, 'The Hindu' reported many teachers, country-wide, complaining that students have being showing a lethargic attitude towards studying because they knew that they won't fail. In India it is very difficult to implement any program or scheme as a blanket because of its diversity, pluralistic society, geographical set ups, the urban-rural divide, etc.The idea behind the policy is perfect but there should

IPL CONTROVERSY

Today world is changing with great pace, so is our sports, sports personnel and their sportsmanship. One of the most changed sport is cricket and the main reason for changing cricket is beginning of its new format of fast and furious cricket 20-20.IPL is in the list of most expensive games. Though being one of the most innovative form of cricket, it shares the feature of being a two-sided coin. One side, which is showing the future of cricket while the other showing reality of future. Roots of it are still not fair and transparent.Right from its first session, cases of indulging of players in spot- fixing started which banned the career of several talented buds. Several cases of money laundering and the money used in it have been questioned.Coming to the second side of the coin, it has become the great platform for budding talents. It is giving equal chance to every player either from village or urban area.Sports must be taken as sports and not like a platform for politics. Sports and politics are two different fields and must be taken differently. Both of this are used for betterment of the country and this betterment can be done only when these two does not collide with each other.

MIND IS NOT A VESSEL TO BE FILLED BUT A FIRE TO BE KINDLED

Anisha Chazhoor - 10A

'Empty vessels make the most noise'. This was an essential proverb during the olden times. However, with the onset of an all new era, it is time to modify this proverb to suit the situation of today's time. It now seems that empty vessels are not the only ones that pose threat to us. Even completely 'filled vessels' can prove hazardous to us, in case they are filled in the wrong way.It is our education system which has gained us this notoriety. Marks have gained more status and true knowledge has taken a back seat. The person achieving good grades is termed as 'intelligent' and the one failing to do so is labelled as a 'failure'. We do not take into consideration, the extent to which a person has comprehended the topics. Was India always like this? To understand these questions a brief review of early system of education in India is indispensable.India, once upon a time, didn't believe in such methodologies to impart education to children. We were praised for our innovative approaches to inculcate moral values in the minds of children, at a very young age. Teaching wasn't confined to the four walls of a room or the pages of a book. Students were taught to learn from every aspect of nature. Their mind was trained to be alert and vigilant. They observed from their vicinity and acquired knowledge. However colonization reduced our education system to mere rote learning.Gandhiji believed that education meant an all-round drawing of the best in child and man, in body, mind and spirit. Sadly, 'mugging up data' has become a widespread disease, which is perhaps more fatal than cancer. Though it is an easy method to skip hard work, its retaining period is short lived. Memorized facts do not survive in our brain's memory disk. We tend to stop the practice of 'brain-storming'. Moreover, the person's reasoning power reduces substantially. Eventually the fire of curiosity dies out. If a person doesn't analyze a topic whole-heartedly, the results will be, no doubt, disappointing. Thus it is futile to compel a person to learn. Instead if the person scrutinizes a situation out of curiosity, he is sure to reach at some result. George Eliot once quoted the following lines:“We learn words by rote, but not their meaning; that must be paid for with our life-blood, and printed in the subtle fibers of our nerves.”Learning is a process of logical discovery and thoughtful exploration. It is not required to stuff your brain with facts and figures. When one learns with imagination and by associating it with real life instances, understanding becomes an inevitable part of it. Many think of memory as rote learning, a linear stuffing of the brain with facts, where understanding is irrelevant. When you teach it properly, with imagination and association, understanding becomes a part of it. A well acclaimed author named Laurence Sterne had once quoted,“Sciences may be learnt by rote, but wisdom not.”

THE WORLD OF DISGUISE

You, me and everyone here are living in the same world. The world of disguise. You are not real nor am I. We are all denying to take off our masks. I know that it is really a great task. What are you doing in front of me? What are you doing in front of him? What I saw yesterday was you in disguise. You may not believe me, but if you think, you'll know what I am telling you is true. What you see is what you believe, but what you see is not what it is. It's like a beautiful pot filled with dirty, muddy water. You always take a look at everyone and everything but do you try to figure out what's inside?I would like you to think. Remember, how you behave with your most loved and dear ones. You become kind and respectful. But what happens on the other side? What happens when you talk to your enemy or rival? You must recall that you must have uttered the worst words or shown extreme hatred towards them. What happened to your love and kindness then? You must have realized that you too had unknowingly worn a mask. So you should remember that an angel can be a demon and a demon can be an angel. Get the meaning? It means that a good person can be bad from inside or have bad intentions. In the same way a bad person may be good from inside. You surely have heard about the idiom that never judge a book by its cover. I am not asking you to go to the library and issue a book with a bad cover! I am telling you to apply this idiom in your life. One should always remember that this is the world of disguise. Act accordingly because what you see may not always be true.

MUNING IS A MUST..

MUNing has been the most popular trend so far this year! And rightly so. It helps on a lot- be it with the control over language or taking away the fear of public speaking. It also provides a totally different environment- a very formal one. All the delegates are impeccably dressed in formals. Nobody refers to themselves as 'I' or 'me'. They talk of themselves as the 'delegates of', after all they represent different countries. You tend to get involved in the conference, it starts to seem like a two day break from the rest of the world. The committee sessions are amazing. The debate quality , the motions passed, the challenges that take place are mind-blowing. Also, you get to make so many new friends. For me, the best thing about MUNing is that the sessions get you thinking on the spot. No one can predict the crises that you will get or the points that will be raised. All you can do is research well and use your brains to come up with viable solutions to the problems posed.I wish that more students take part in the upcoming MUNSs and make the school proud by winning the 'Best Delegation' Award again and again like it did at the IYMUN.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

International Yoga Day was celebrated in our school on June 21, 2015 and was declared so by United Nations General Assembly on December 11,2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his address to UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014 stated-“ Yoga is an individual gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action….” On this day, our school had organized an open Yoga session for the parents and students of classes 7-12. It was successfully conducted by Bharti Ma'am in the early morning of 21st June. Many parents and students had attended the yoga session and it turned out to be a great success. We all get to know about the importance of Yoga and meditation in each and every one's life. One must practice yoga, not only on Yoga Day but throughout the year in order to be calm and relaxed.

WORLD MUSIC DAY

On the occasion of World Music Day, the school had organized a classical singing competition for the students of classes 1 to 12 on 24th June, 2015.The students of classes 1 to 4 were supposed to sing film songs whereas for the students of classes 5 to 8, the theme was PATRIOTISM. Students of classes 9 to 12 made the air more melodious by venturing into the toughest forte of music, Ghazals. The judges for the event were Ms. Sonal Shah and Mr. Sanjay Limaye.

ROCK FIESTA

It was an interschool band competition and was very interesting. We had eight schools participating and all were judged by Mr. Jay Vyas and Mr. Kshitij Nakhashi. Out of the eight bands 'Moksh' won the competition. Our school band @zeroKelvin bagged the second position. Out of the many awesome songs I think the song by 'Moksh' was very well sung. The judges judged the bands on their stage presence, coordination and fluency of the song. We all enjoyed the competition.

WHY INDIAN POLITICS IS CONSIDERED DIRTY?

Why has Indian politics acquired malignance ? Why is it considered one of the dirtiest field of service? Not due to corrupt and old politicians. Not due to the slow state machinery of our state but because of non participation by the youth section of our society. The static mentality is that unless and until you appease each and every other politician till then you can't reach a position of authority. People are forgetting that the condition preemptive to ruling the people and gaining a position of authority and responsibility is about winning the trust of the public and not extolling the various ministers. The tedious process of election ensures fairness and many open chances to the youth of this country to enter politics under the constitution of India. There are two major reasons. One is that the various parties create a chaotic system of candidacy but more than this reason of a systematic glitch a bigger reason is that all of us, me , you, him, her, everyone wants to talk about politics, they want to criticize it, but none of them want to work for it. They refer to politics as mud. I ask them “If they think politics to be scum then why don't they try to clean it”? No. Nobody wants to do the dirty work but everyone wants a cushy job from where they can direct their caustic, and pungent remarks towards Indian politics.I have heard many people claiming that they will be great engineers and doctors in their future life but none of them, not one, desires to take up politics as a career. Right from my childhood, I was attracted to the concept of politics and till now I have tried to work towards my goal but I would like to see more of my fellow young companions on the road that I am going to travel on.Only evolution can bring a revolution in Indian Politics and that can be done by following a simple line.Ring out the old, Ring in the new.

THE ENRICHING ESSAR EXPERIENCE

Essar International School had organized 'Confluence- the learning fiesta'. Under this event, various competitions were held, namely debate competition, science quiz, math quiz and power point presentation. This event was a great exposure for all the participants. We went to Surat for 3 days to attend this event. This event was basically aimed to bring out our interests and qualities and give us a platform so that the general public can asses as to how good we are and what all we need to improve upon. It was really an enriching experience for me. I participated in the debate competition, so I know more about that than any other competition. Debating is actually the skill of thinking on spot and putting forth your points in a convincing manner. The debate competition in Essar was substantial because an actual debate took place. People for the motion sat on one side and the ones against the motion sat on the other side and we actually debated.Overall, 'confluence' brought about a change in my perspective on debating.

MUNning Counts....

Khushbu Upadhyay - 12A

MUNs are such a wonderful thing. They come to you like a big question mark and at the end they leave giving such great memories and experience. This year I was offered to be a part of OrganisingCommittee( OC) of Indian Youth Model United Nations (IYMUN). To be honest I had no idea about what it would be like but then I am always up for trying something new so I accepted my role as OC.My work as OC started a month before the main conference of IYMUN. I had to attend various training sessions by the founder president KartavyaTrivedi. With me there were 4 more people from Navrachana. Every week we got new targets and we kept chasing them. First job was to contact people and gather delegates, sponsors and media partners as many as possible. We used to have hour long conference calls with Kartavya to sort out different problems that we faced in doing these tasks. After we were done with gathering people, we had to work upon with the allotments and brief up the delegates about the conference. Not just that each day I used to attend minimum of 10 calls answering various FAQs. Along with this ensuring that my school team did the best. I used to sit with them and help them in every possible way(Many of them being first time MUNners)A week before the conference, we used to meet at one place and used to make delegate kits, sorted and arranged the placards and Id cards and did the necessary arrangement for the conference. We also went to various schools for conducting Orientations and also attended the appointments with the sponsors. In the 3-day conference we were completely on our toes, attending to every problem and finding possible solutions. Also, I was given the task of writing 300+ participation certificates along with the certificates of winners- a job needing high levels of concentration and patience. Also. Surprising enough I got to chair a session of LokSabha. This conference ended on winning note- with our school winning the best delegation trophy and receiving an invite for the Mega Conference. All this making my school life's last MUN much more special.

A look at Wodehousean comedies

No problem exists which can't be solved by 'The gentleman's personal gentleman'-the one and only Jeeves. Those who read the Jeeves novels might fully agree to this fact. And the person credited with the creation of this character and others like Bertie Wooster and Blandings Castle is P.G. Wodehouse, rightly called 'Sublime comic genius' by Ben Elton. Writing a comedy is not easy, but Wodehouse does it effortlessly. The genre of comedies created by P.G. Wodehouse, be it his novels or his short stories, stand as a class apart. The elements of satire and hints of sarcasm infused in between the lines is hard hitting and amuses you as well. The lines are beautifully crafted with sneak peeks into common lives which have you chuckling in minutes. In fact, many of the characters may resemble people you meet each day. It might be your annoying neighbour, your best friend or, for that matter, your own parents scolding you constantly. One of the most striking characteristic of his style is the fact that you connect to the characters, be it the protagonist or the others instantly. The characters are vividly sketched. The way he describes them, shows their innate propensities for human qualities like kindness, jealousy, vanity and so on. The beauty in his style lies in the fact that you are amused by both the plot and the language used. You get so absorbed reading the book that the humour interwoven in each line feels natural and not something fabricated to cause a laugh. So for all those who have read and those unfortunate souls who are yet to read these books; a sincere advice from the wise –Go read some Wodehouse!!!

I along with Swarnaditya had the opportunity of our lifetime to visit IIM-Indore and take part in the Pi Quiz finals, a one of a kind quiz where instead of your tank of knowledge, your smartness and logical reasoning is tested. The campus was vast and amazing and it had to be as it being one of the most prestigious institutes of India. A perfect setup of infrastructure with greenery all around. A unique system of hiring cycles enabled anyone to pick any cycle from anywhere around the campus requiring just prior registration. Other than this there were many amazing things to witness there. Now coming to the quiz, it comprised of 5 rounds and each round resulting into elimination of few students leaving less and less in contention. The rounds were very interesting and for the majority a first of a kind experience. They had a fair share of surprises and tough decision making and tested your smartness to the extreme. Overall it was a unique and memorable experience and we got to learn a lot.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

On the morning of 15th August 2015, India completed 68 years of progress, development and freedom. That day we thanked the brave hearts who gave up their lives for India. Avviites thanked them in a creative way. Many patriotic songs symbolizing India's freedom struggle were sung. Moreover, an Inter-House advertisement competition was organized. Each house had to present an Ad on different topics. The topics were based on some or the other aspect of our diverse Indian Culture. On this day of the year, we salute those who had the guts to stand up for equality and freedom. Day in and day out the Indian youth is inspired by these legends and together we march towards achieving the goal of A DEVELOPED INDIA.

BULLYING STOPS HERE

A bully is a boy or a girl,Who makes you feel bad.Who says or does things,That make you feel sad. What if you see.Someone bullying you friend? How can you make,The meanness come to an end?Go tell a grown up.They’ll know what to do.Teachers and parents,Are there to help you.Words can hurt or make someone cry,Put their heart in the sky.Find the courage, speak up and tell,Then maybe things turn out well.

THE NIGHTINGALE'S SONG

As the first warm rays of the sunShroud the world in goldenMy sweet little nest is also illuminatedSeeing it glow, I am elated.I rise afresh ready for now,My only dream is to fly unboundOver distant tree tops and faraway cities,To explore the mystical, the unknown. As I fly, I sing my melodiesTo wake up those still slumbering“Come on my friends, rise and shineIt's time to discover yourself and flySome hear my call and join me Others, annoyed, frown and scold meBut I don't care, my duty isTo enlighten others, lead them to blissAnd finally, when I reach my havenTired after the day's travellingI thank God for giving me todayAnd I pray to Him for a better tomorrow.

MY FAVOURITE FAIRY TALES

Every night before I go to reading fairy tales is a must. And as I fall asleep reading it, a beautiful fairy comes in my dreams.I like her curly-wurly hair and glittery blue eyes like stars shining in the blue sky.I love the dress she wears with the tiny-miny wings she has.I wonder how beautiful she is with her shiny magical stick. Abra-ca-dabra she chants and gets invisible from my dreams.

REEL OR REAL?

Reel or real? What do you think? The stars on the ramp,Enjoying a Sunday camp.Crying behind the shadows,Surroundings, empty and forlorn. But laughing and joking like nothing has happened,Inside so ripped and torn.Is it too much of a trouble,To show the real you.Are we so critical?Dwellers of the earth,So dark is our hue?Reel or real? What do you think? The blazing sun,Blinding my eyes.A will to fly highFly above the skies.Boast as if you're the kingBut play and doodle like you're a kid.Is it too much of a trouble,To show the real you.Are we so critical?Dwellers of the earth,So dark is our hue?See the world as I do,I see, the people are standing in such a long queue.A queue, made to enter a place,.A place just so artificial.Artificial, with dwellers,Dwellers, so duplicate.Something close outside,A devious devil inside.Again and again, I sayThe things in my mind,Which prevail, which stay there. Is it too much of a trouble,To show the real you.Are we so critical?Dwellers of the earth,So dark is our hue?

THE BYGONE DAYS

Gone are those daysWhen everything was so simple,Never thinking of who would judge youBeing friends with everyone I know.Thinking they would be with meTill the end.But with each bygone day,People's mind changesWith each passing year of life,We are forcibly put into a dilemma. To which we are uncertain of,In recognizing our true friendsWho would be with us in each traumatizing situation?Realizing that some people are just not Worth our friendship.Or it may be the other way round.Freeing ourselves from hate maySeem a better option.Which forces all us to love all our haters….And wait for KARMATo eat 'em all up.

TIME

There's no one selling it…Time I don't want to buy it…I say I don't fear the endBut that's just this moment's bendAsk that soldier… he can pay Millions to get more of it…Because he values it… andSo he realizes it…Yet I don't want it…For I don't care of it.There's no more of it for me or you…What I deserve, I ought to get…You too…Has no one the right to sell it,Because this crazy devil is not identified,Has it not been feared…Yet, still, I don't fear it!!??

SLEEPING BEAUTY

Sleeping beauty pricked her thumb,And started feeling overcome.Probably she would've died,As the witch had prophesied. But the fairies had her blessed,So she just got a beautiful rest. For a hundred and fifty yearsShe missed balls and film premieres,Till prince Charming came alongSinging out a cheerful song.Kneeling down he kissed her cheek,Hoping that she would wake and speak.Sleeping beauty raised her arm,Reaching for the snooze alarm,And her waking words were these“Just need five more minutes please”.

Save The Internet

Ÿ Save the Internet is a coalition of individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations led by Free Press working for the preservation of network neutralityŸ Save the Internet was founded in April 2006 in order to advocate for net neutrality.Ÿ When Save the Internet formed, it asserted the idea that network neutrality needed to be protected by a "First Amendment" of the Internet.ŸJanuary 14, 2014 - A Court overturned the Federal Communications Commission's Net Neutrality due to a lawsuit by Verizon.Ÿ SaveTheInternet.in is an Indian web petition portal started in 2015 to support the principle of net neutrality in India.Ÿ Reported to be one of India's biggest online protests, "SaveTheInternet.in" is a campaign platform through which Indian citizens can send an e-mail to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) expressing their support for net neutrality. The campaign was started by many individuals from Reddit India, Kiran Jonnalagadda, co-founder of HasGeek, an Indian startup; Nikhil Pahwa, the founder of MediaNama and others.Ÿ On 6 April 2015, Bharti Airtel, a leading telecom provider in India announced the launch of Airtel Zero, a platform through which it would offer users free access to certain mobile apps and services from companies who have signed up with their platform.Ÿ Flipkart's withdrawal from Airtel Zero made a splash.Ÿ National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), a body under the IT Ministry, has come out in support for net neutrality. It issued a statement saying any move by telecom operators to selectively bundle the services will go against the basic concept of Internet.Ÿ Airtel Zero is a platform launched on 6 April 2015 in Ind i a by Bhar t i A i r t e l , a mu l t i na t iona l telecommunications service company across South Asia and the largest cellular service provider in India, with 192.22 million subscribers.

summit was to bring together experts, officials and industry leaders to focus on ways to deliver more Internet services for people in languages other than English. Zuckerberg also met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk about how Facebook and the Indian government can collaborate on Internet.eduŸ The Alliance for Affordable Internet (abbreviated A4AI) is an initiative to make the Internet more affordable to people around the world. The World Wide Web Foundation serves as the Secretariat, and major members of coalition include Google, the Omidyar Network, DFID, USAID, Facebook, Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, UN Women and many others from the public, private and civil society sectors.Ÿ Search neutrality is a principle that search engines should have no editorial policies other than that their results be comprehensive, impartial and based solely on relevance.Ÿ Facebook Zero is an initiative undertaken by social networking service company Facebook in collaboration with mobile phone-based Internet providers, whereby the providers waive data (bandwidth) charges (also known as zero-rate) for accessing Facebook on phones via a stripped-down text-only version of its mobile website, located athttp://0.facebook.com or http://zero.facebook.com

BitCoin

Ÿ Bitcoin is a payment system invented by Satoshi Nakamoto, who published the invention in 2008 and released it as an open-source software in 2009US TreasuryŸ categorizes it as a decentralized virtual currencyŸ Bitcoin is often called the first cryptocurrencyŸBitcoin is more correctly described as the first decentralized digital currency.ŸBitcoins are created as a reward for payment processing work in which users offer their computing power to verify and record payments into the public ledger. This activity is called mining and the miners are rewarded with transaction fees and newly created bitcoinsŸ Bitcoins have three useful qualities in a currency, according to the Economist in January 2015: they are "hard to earn, limited in supply and easy to verify".Ÿ For example, Eve could buy something from Alice, like a sofa, by adding a signed entry to the block chain ledger equivalent to Eve pays Alice 100 bitcoins. Later, after receiving the sofa, Eve could modify that block chain ledger entry to read instead: Eve pays Alice 1 bitcoin, or replace Alice's address by another of Eve's addresses. Digital signatures cannot prevent this attack: Eve can simply sign her entry again after modifying it.

Net Neutrality

Ÿ Net neutrality (also network neutrality, Internet neutrality, or net equality) is the principle that Internet service providers and governments should treat all data on the Internet equally, not discriminating or charging differentially as per user, content, site, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or mode of communication.Ÿ The term was coined by Columbia University media law professor Tim Wu in 2003, as an extension of the longstanding concept of a common carrier.Ÿ Wikipedia Zero is a project by the Wikimedia Foundation to provide Wikipedia free of charge on mobile phones, particularly in developing marketsŸ Internet.org is a partnership between social networking services company Facebook and six companies (Samsung, Ericsson,MediaTek, Opera Software, Nokia and Qualcomm) that plans to bring affordable access to selected Internet services to less developed countries by increasing efficiency, and facilitating the development of new business models around the provision of Internet access.Ÿ The first Internet.edu summit was held on 9 October 2014 in New Delhi, India.
