District Governor
Jan Weatherly
Imagine Our Convention Highlights
I cannot thank enough the Lions from all over the District that teamed up to make this convention an unqualified success. My home club, Olympia Host Lions, hit it out of the park! If you missed the convention this year, you missed a great array of fun, fellowship and fantastic learning opportunities. Take a walk through the
convention pictures and imagine the fabulous time we all had. A balance
between education, discussion, music, memories and recognition.
Melena Meyer stole the show with her two presentations on Friday: a signature seminar Accessing Youth Service Culture and Finding Resilience Everywhere: her story of overcoming adversity told through the lives of many with shared experiences. She received a standing ovation! Richard LeMieux, our keynote luncheon speaker, touched our hearts with his story of being homeless as told through his book, Breakfast at Sally’s. Generous District C Lions purchased his book and opened their wallets giving him over $500 in donations for his Foundation to fight homelessness. Our International Director, Jerome Thompson, shared openly and honestly LCI’s serious intent to stretch the organization to provide 200,000,000 service hours yearly. The only way we can do that is to add more members to increase our service capacity and record all our service hours. Now for the well deserving awards for District C Lions who have gone the extra mile to

Lions is just a great organization. As we approach 100 years, this process gets more and more
exciting. Our entertainment is under control, Vendors are taking shape, 20 Lions Clubs and 20
outside vendors, we are having a diabetes screening and the new health trailer is on board.
DuPont businesses that have been procured as vendors are: McNamara's Pub and Eatery, Farrelli's
Wood Fire Pizza, Forrey's Forza, and the Fairfield Inn & Suites. If you would like a room for August
11th or 12th, contact the Fairfield for a reservation. Ask for the Centennial rate of $110/night, plus
tax. To get this rate you must make your reservation by July 12 th. They have a King bed room or
double queen bed rooms available.
In our district, so far, we have 12 clubs who will have earned 3 Centennial Service Project Patches
come July 1st. We have another 4 who need to do one more project this year to be able to earn their
3rd four stone patch. We will have another 6 clubs who will earn a 4 stone patch this year. We also
have 9 clubs who need to do one more service project to earn the four-stone patch. This shows we
have 32 clubs who will earn or are close to earning a four-stone patch. Get to work and do that one
project you need. Be PROUD TO SERVE. WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Secretaries please report
these projects to LCI.
I am AWARE of 32 clubs who have a Centennial Service Project. I would like to be aware of all

By PZC Bob Johnson
Humor…? ► Feeling pretty proud of myself. The Sesame Street puzzle I bought said 3-5 years, but I finished it in just under 8 months.
► Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
► Some people cause happiness wherever they go. Others whenever they go.
► I always take life with a grain of salt, …plus a slice of lemon, …and a shot of tequila.
► Evening news is where they begin with ‘Good evening’, and then proceed to tell you why it isn’t.
► And now this parting thought. Work harder; millions on welfare are depending on you.

decided. All districts in our multiple district vote on his candidacy and the results will be
revealed at the MD-19 Fall Convention.
On the one day of the year that we question with suspicion everything we see and hear, I can
confirm the accuracy of the above. You may now return to your normal state of accepting everything
you see because it’s on the Internet.

Dear Lions: By PDG Barbara Ellis
DID YOU KNOW
What seemed like routine flood warnings to the community of Rapid City, South Dakota, soon
turned into ravaging floods that took the lives of more than 200 people, left more than 5,000 people
homeless, and created more than $100 million dollars in property damage. Local Lions did what
would soon become our legacy, being among the first to arrive with relief. This event also marked
the first grant ever awarded by Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), US$5,000 to help the
community rebuild after the catastrophic floods.
Since then, every day, LCIF works to fulfill its mission: "To support the efforts of Lions clubs and
partners in serving communities locally and globally, giving hope and impacting lives through
humanitarian service projects and grants." Serving alongside many dedicated Lions, LCIF has
made a significant impact on the world. In fact, I am proud to announce LCIF has awarded more
than 13,000 grants totaling over US$1 billion since being founded in 1968.
Every day, Lions are working to make a difference. Whether you are helping a grandparent see
their grandchild for the first time, educating school children in your town about diabetes or sight,
cleaning up a community after a disaster, or working to end measles, you are making this world a
better place.
Please keep your donations to LCIF coming because they do so much for so many.
Membership Update:
By 2VDGE Pat Burch
We started the year in big hole with -97 drops in July and have been steadily adding new members
since then. We are aware of several new members which have not been added to the MyLCI data
base and more that have not been inducted after our Spring Ahead Membership Drive. The summit
is in sight as we climb to the new member mountaintop.
Secretaries, please help by inputting your new member applications. In addition, please input your
drops as they occur. We are no longer holding those drops until the new Lions Year. Clubs, let’s
get all of those prospective members inducted today. Let them enjoy the benefits as a Lion!!
GREAT News!! We are still on track to meet our Goal of Net
+20 members for the year. This means more hands to spread
the workload serving our communities. We are currently sitting
at -20 members for the year.

Bonney Lake LEOs Keep Busy
By PZC Karl Ostheller
Led by president Jessica and VP Jordan, the LEOs kick off their school year by giving apples to
their teachers. Later In the fall they put together “First Responders” baskets and then worked with
the “Big Give” drive to put together food bags for 400+ families in need of a helping hand.
Christmas time finds the LEOs assisting at the senior center along with some Xmas carols. At this
time of the year one of their fund-raisers is running a food concessions booth for sporting events.
They also do a coin drive to benefit the Bonney Lake Lions “Lions for Kids” house. Their spring
focus is a “shoebox” drive where these gift boxes are given to low income students in the
elementary schools.
This 6 year old LEO club has great support from its local Lions club who provide a liaison
connection between the club and Bonney Lake High School. The high school has two LEO advisors
that are critical in keeping the club involved in school activities. Later this spring the LEOs are
helping out at the Lions “Death by Chocolate” dinner and auction. Picture below features LEOs and
their advisors.
