1 PANTHER POST GREETINGSFAMILIESAND FRIENDS! IB LEARNER PROFILE TRAIT OF TH E M ONTH: INQUIRER LEARNER PROFILE TRAIT OF THE MONTH - INQUIRER As we move into November, we are shifting our focus to another Learner Profile trait - Inquirer. Those of you who already excel in this area are asking ?Well what do I have to do be a better inquirer?? No fears, dear reader, we have some suggestions for you! At the heart of any inquirer is the natural curiosity to figure out how the world works. If you?ve ever searched a question on Google, took apart a toy to see how it works, or even took the road less traveled, you can call yourself an inquirer. Inquirers look at today?s solutions and wonder what?s next and how they could make the world a better place. At school, inquirers have many different opportunities to hone their skill. In Language and Literature class, students often find themselves digging into deep questions in Shared Inquiry Discussions. Solving problems in different ways or finding alternate routes to solutions is key for an inquirer in Math class. As students conduct labs and design the process for them in Science class, they too pump up their inquirer skills. Each and every day at Anthony provides a plethora of opportunities for an inquirer. At home, we can continue to work on being an inquirer by simply asking questions that we may not know the answer to, and through a shared discovery, families can broaden their horizons. We can take trips to museums and parks and travel to areas that we have never seen before. Whatever steps we take, it is important to ask questions along the way to build upon our curiosity and see the world from the eyes of an inquirer. STATE OF THE SCHOOL ADDRESS - A SUCCESS! Earlier this week, we hosted our first State of the School. At the meeting we highlighted some of our early successes and goals for the rest of the school year and beyond. GREETINGS FAMILIES AND FRIENDS!

IB LEARNER PROFILE TRAIT OF TH E M ONTH : INQUIRER

LEARNER PROFILE TRAIT OF THE MONTH - INQUIRERAs we move into November, we are shifting our focus to another Learner Profile trait - Inquirer.

6TH GRADE - SUGOI! SUGOI! SUGOI! SUGOI! SUGOI!

7TH GRADE - ANTHONY ROCKS THE VOTE

Whether it?s yelling out a cheerful

SUGOI or clapping and cheering for

their classmates, students in

Japanese continue to support each

other and express their positivity

through the language. Soon this will

be done through our ?watashi no

shinyuu? posters. Students will talk

about their friends, some real

people, while others may be cartoon

characters, inanimate objects or

really whatever they claim as their best friend.

The goal is to express ourselves in Japanese

and to share with others something

important to us. They will start by designing

their posters and including the main facts of

their best friend, such as their name, age,

birthday, things they like and dislike and their

pictures. Then, they will have mini

presentations where they get to learn more

about each other and their best friends. Our

time together is nearing its end, but hopefully

this project will create some fun memories.

8TH GRADE - WOMEN IN SPORTS AND TITLE IXThis week in ELL, 8th graders are discussing the issue of women in sports. We have talked about Title IX and what that means for women?s participation in school as well as extracurricular activities. To build on writing skills, we are writing claims that have evidence.

Eventually, we will turn our claims into multi-paragraph essays! We are also looking forward to having a student teacher, Ms. Krause, join us on November 12th!

Pict ured: Amaiya Zafar, a female boxer from Minnesota. She is the first boxer to be allowed to compete in a hijab!

After studying the candidates and the issues surrounding the mid-term election, students will be able to cast their votes in a Kids Vote! Minneapolis on November 6th. Students are eager for opportunity to participate in this hands-on civic duty simulation and are glad to have their votes counted!

In US Studies, students are wrapping up their Westward Expansion unit by discovering the causes and effects people, events and technology had on the development of the United States boundaries it has today. Students are researching topics and creating a museum project, which is helping prepare them for their History Day project beginning after winter break and held at Anthony on February 14th.
